The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Robot vacuums nab pet hair, dust and lint off floors before they can settle. They can also avoid obstacles like stairs and other obstructions such as furniture that is tippy.

Most robotic vacuums require maintenance. This includes emptying the bin (and sometimes, rinsing it) and wiping the cameras and sensors. Additionally, they must be connected to the power source. Many have smartphone apps for scheduling, adjusting setting and more.

iRobot Roomba 980

The iRobot Roomba 980 is the latest in the line of top-of-the-line robotic vacuum cleaners that are an essential part of every modern household. This model is equipped with a HEPA-filter to aid those suffering from allergies. It also comes with an extremely powerful battery that can be cleaned for up to two hours before returning to its dock automatically once the bin is full.

Smart mapping is another feature that helps it identify areas in your home that require attention and provides a path for cleaning around them. floor cleaning is very effective at navigating around toys left on the floor, or furniture legs sticking out from under things. It also has a camera that will snap the Roomba back to its original position when it starts to drift from its actual location.

best buy robot vacuum has also introduced a new set of rollers beneath the Roomba's bottom that don't have bristles and therefore tend to resist tangles more than earlier models. These are also a little taller than older rollers and are able to fit under beds and couches with low sides, and they're designed to allow this model to move more easily across a variety of floor kinds.

The Roomba 980 differs from other models with a high-end price tag by its new dirt detection feature, which uses cameras to detect embedded dirt. This is a nice improvement over the previous version which relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage method to bounce around the room and clean everything at least three times from different angles.

The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on both carpets and hard floors. It scored highly on carpets with low pile and on mid-pile. It did a fair job of picking up pet hair, but it was struggling with very long and thick pet fur that was stuck together.

Despite these minor shortcomings, the Roomba 980 remains one of our best-performing robots, and it's even close to being as expensive as the other top-of-the-line models in this list. It's got plenty of features that we'd like to find in a flagship model, but it doesn't have all the fancy app-enabled functions or smart home integration are found in other top contenders.

The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and get working immediately. After removing the pull tab for the battery and the yellow bin insert from its undercarriage, all you have to connect it to its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, hit its big "Clean" button, and let it get to work. It will automatically return to docking station when it runs out of batteries or is full of debris. There are also indicator lights on top that indicate the bin is empty, when it needs to recharge, or when it loses its Wi-Fi.
