At the same time, 'omics approaches are gaining traction in the field of avian toxicology, but little has been done to characterize the metabolome and transcriptome at different life stages. The present study uses 'omics data from toxicity tests of 8 environmental chemicals in ELS and adult Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) to address this data gap. Previous analyses of these data focused on responses to each of the individual chemicals. Here, we consider data from all studies to describe variation in the metabolome and transcriptome between life stages and across independent experiments, irrespective of chemical treatment. Of the 230 metabolites detected in liver, 163 were shared between the two life stages. However, many of the targeted bile acids that were present in the adult liver were absent from ELS samples. For the transcriptome, >90% of the 18,364 detected transcripts were common to both life stages. Based on the 213 genes solely detected in ELS liver, the neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction pathway was significantly enriched. Multivariate and hierarchical clustering analyses revealed that variability among independent experiments was higher for the adult than the ELS studies at both the metabolomic and transcriptomic levels. Our results indicate concordance of the two approaches, with less variation between independent experiments in the ELS metabolome and transcriptome than in adults, lending support for the use of ELS as an alternative toxicity testing strategy.

In March 2020, regulatory and payment changes allowed "brick and mortar" pediatric practices to offer practice-based telemedicine for the first time, joining direct-to-consumer (DTC) telemedicine vendors in the ability to offer visits for common acute pediatric concerns via telemedicine. We sought to characterize the relative contribution of practice-based telemedicine versus commercial DTC telemedicine models in provision of children's telemedicine from 2018 through 2021.

Using January 2018 to September 2021 data from Optum's de-identified Clinformatics® Data Mart Database, we identified telemedicine visits by children ≤17, excluding preventive visits and visits to specialists, emergency departments, and urgent care. Among included visits, we defined "telemedicine-only" providers as those with ≥80% of visits via telemedicine and practice-based telemedicine providers as those with ≤50% of visits via telemedicine. Here, we analysed the venoms of juvenile and adult specimens of V. latastei from two environmentally different populations from northern Portugal. Using bottom-up venomics, we produced six venom proteomes (three per population) from vipers belonging to both age classes (i.e., two juveniles and four adults), and RP-HPLC profiles of 54 venoms collected from wild specimens. Venoms from juveniles and adults differed in their chromatographic profiles and relative abundances of their toxins, suggesting the occurrence of ontogenetic changes in venom composition. Specifically, snake venom metalloproteinase (SVMP) was the most abundant toxin family in juvenile venoms, while snake venom serine proteinases (SVSPs), phospholipases A2 (PLA2s), and C-type lectin-like (CTLs) prot snake venom serine proteinases (SVSPs), phospholipases A2 (PLA2s), and C-type lectin-like (CTLs) proteins are the major components of adult V. latastei venom. A systematic search of the PubMed, Scopus, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, American Psychological Association PsycINFO, and International Health Technology Assessment databases in July 2021 identified the 22 studies (13 full text articles and 9 abstracts) included in this review. The large majority were small to medium-sized (n = 15; 68.2%) pilot or feasibility studies (n = 18; 81.8%) that were published between 2016 and 2021 (n = 16; 72.7%). Collection of patient-reported outcomes was the most frequently reported eHealth intervention (n = 14; 63.6%), followed by vital sign monitoring (n = 5; 22.7%) and home-based spirometry (n = 3; 13.6%), mostly in the early post-transplantation setting. eHealth interventions had favorable feasibility and acceptability profiles; however, we found little data on the efficacy, long-term monitoring, data security, and cost-effectiveness of eHealth interventions.
