The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and clinical usefulness of early oral feeding (EOF) after rectosigmoid resection with anastomosis for the treatment of primary ovarian cancer.

We performed a retrospective review of all consecutive patients who had undergone rectosigmoid resection with anastomosis for primary ovarian, tubal, or peritoneal cancer between April 2012 and March 2019 in a single institution. Patient-related, disease-related, and surgery-related data including the incidence of anastomotic leakage and postoperative hospital stay were collected. EOF was introduced as a postoperative oral feeding protocol in September 2016. Before the introduction of EOF, conventional oral feeding (COF) had been used.

Two hundred and one patients who underwent rectosigmoid resection with anastomosis, comprised of 95 patients in the COF group and 106 patients in the EOF group, were included in this study. The median number of postoperative days until the start of diet intake was 5 (range 2-8) in the COF group and 2 (range 2-8) in the EOF group (P < 0.001). Postoperative morbidity was equivalent between the groups. The incidence of anastomotic leakage was similar (1%) in both groups. The median length of the postoperative hospital stay was reduced by 6 days for the EOF group 17 (range 9-67) days for the COF group versus 11 (8-49) days for the EOF group (P < 0.001).

EOF provides a significant reduction in the length of the postoperative hospital stay without an increased complication risk after rectosigmoid resection with anastomosis as a part of cytoreductive surgery for primary ovarian cancer.

The importance of community involvement in the response against disease outbreaks has been well established. However, we lack insights into local communities' experiences in coping with the current COVID-19 pandemic. This study explored both the impact of, and response to, COVID-19 within the Orthodox Jewish communities of Antwerp (Belgium) during the first lockdown period (March 2020 - May 2020).

We conducted an explorative qualitative study using a participatory approach. First, we performed a community mapping to identify relevant stakeholders. Through the active involvement of a community advisory board and based on qualitative interviews with key-informants and community members, we elicited lived experiences, attitudes, and perceptions towards COVID-19. Interviews were conducted both face-to-face and using online web conferencing technology. Data were analyzed inductively according to the principles of thematic analysis.

Nurses and midwives play a vital role to utilise research in clinical decision-making practice. However, limited support for research utilisation and barriers of research utilisation hamper to utilise up-to-date research findings in clinical practice. Therefore, this study aimed to explore nurses' and midwives' experience of research utilisation in public hospitals.

A qualitative descriptive approach was conducted to explore nurses' and midwives' experience of research utilisation in clinical practice within South Gondar Zone public hospitals from January 3 to June 28, 2020. A total of 20 interviewees, 40 participants of FGDs, and 8 observations were considered in the study. Data from the interview, FGD, and observation were imported into NVivo 12 plus to manage and analyze the data using the Computer-Assisted Data Analysis Software Program (CAQDAS). The data were analyzed through thematic content analysis.

Our aim in this study was to investigate the association between BMD, as a marker of osteoporosis, and OA and RA among adults 20-59 years of age, using a population-based sample from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

Murine xenografts of pediatric leukemia accurately recapitulate genomic aberrations. How this translates to the functional capacity of cells remains unclear. Here, we studied global protein abundance, phosphorylation, and protein maturation by proteolytic processing in 11 pediatric B- and T- cell ALL patients and 19 corresponding xenografts.

Xenograft models were generated for each pediatric patient leukemia. Mass spectrometry-based methods were used to investigate global protein abundance, protein phosphorylation, and limited proteolysis in paired patient and xenografted pediatric acute B- and T- cell lymphocytic leukemia, as well as in pediatric leukemia cell lines. Targeted next-generation sequencing was utilized to examine genetic abnormalities in patients and in corresponding xenografts. Bioinformatic and statistical analysis were performed to identify functional mechanisms associated with proteins and protein post-translational modifications.

Osteoporosis (OP) is increasingly prevalent with the aging of the world population. It is urgent to identify efficient diagnostic signatures for the clinical application.

We downloaded the mRNA profile of 90 peripheral blood samples with or without OP from GEO database (Number GSE152073). Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to reveal the correlation among genes in all samples. GO term and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis was performed via the clusterProfiler R package. STRING database was applied to screen the interaction pairs among proteins. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was visualized based on Cytoscape, and the key genes were screened using the cytoHubba plug-in. The diagnostic model based on these key genes was constructed, and 5-fold cross validation method was applied to evaluate its reliability.

A gene module consisted of 176 genes predicted to be associated with the occurrence of OP was identified. A total of 16 significantly enriched GO terms and 1 significantly enriched KEGG pathway were obtained based on the 176 genes. The top 50 key genes in the PPI network were identified. Then 22 genes were screened based on stepwise regression analysis from the 50 key genes. Of which, 9 genes were further screened out by multivariate regression analysis with the significant threshold of P value < 0.01. The diagnostic model was established based on the optimal 9 key genes, which efficiently separated the normal samples and OP samples.
