Strain and strain rate during gestation increased, decreased or remained stable in the left and right fetal ventricle with increasing gestation. Due to considerable variation in the included gestational ages measured and inconsistency in the direction of strain and strain rate development, a meta-analysis could not be performed. Contradictory results concerning the development of strain and strain rate during gestation were shown, probably due to suboptimal study designs and varying algorithms and ultrasound devices used. A large longitudinal cohort study is needed to obtain reference values for fetal cardiac deformation in the uncomplicated, singleton pregnancy. Objective A systematic review was conducted to update and provide a comprehensive overview on the psychological effects of antenatal yoga on pregnancy compared to standard prenatal care. Study design Four databases were searched using keywords "yoga", "pregnancy", "perinatal care", "prenatal care", "postnatal care", "postpartum period", "peripartum period", "patient outcome assessment", "outcome assessment", "pregnancy outcome", "treatment outcome". Trials were considered if they were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published from 2011 to 2018 and evaluated an antenatal yoga intervention. All studies were assessed for risk of bias using the Cochrane criteria. Trial characteristics and outcomes were extracted and synthesized descriptively where possible. Due to heterogeneity, meta-analysis was not possible. Results Of the 175 non-duplicated studies, 16 met criteria for full-text review. Five RCTs met the inclusion criteria and were included in the systematic review. The findings of the RCTs suggest antenatal yoga may be safe and may effectively decrease stress levels, anxiety scores, depression scores, and pain response as well as increasing maternal immunity and emotional-wellbeing. Conclusion Yoga appears to be safe and may improve psychological and pregnancy outcomes. However, due to the limited number of studies, more high-quality, large RCTs are needed to draw conclusions about improvement in other pregnancy outcomes. Objective Approximately 750,000 women worldwide have undergone ESSURE hysteroscopic sterilization since 2002. In 2015, an increase in adverse effects was noted, with gynaecological and systemic symptoms reported. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of fallopian tube and uterine horn tissues and implants, after hysterectomy or salpingectomy, revealed the presence of inorganic particles resulting from implant degradation. Study design Ten patients (age 42-53 years) were included in this study. Of these, eight patients had undergone hysterectomy and two patients had undergone salpingectomy. Mean exposure time was 85.5 months (standard deviation 26.8 months, range 34-105 months). Mineralogical analyses were performed on 13 tissue biopsies and four implants by SEM coupled with energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry. Results In five of the 10 patients, tin particles were observed in fallopian tube or uterine horn tissues with inflammatory cell reactions. In the other five cases, iron, chromium, nickel or platen. Tin levels in blood have to be measured before and after explantation. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to report significant degradation of the ESSURE implant weld, evidenced by the detection of tin particles in the uterine tissue of patients and comparison of the welding zone between unused and used implants. In women with twin pregnancies biomarkers are not used to predict preterm birth in clinical practice. Selleckchem PF-8380 This systematic review assessed the risk of both spontaneous and iatrogenic preterm birth in twin pregnancies based on biochemical predictors. We searched the electronic databases from January 1990 to June 2019 without language restrictions. All studies on twin pregnancies where biochemical predictors and preterm birth were evaluated were included. We reported our findings as odds ratio (OR) with 95 % confidence intervals (CI) and pooled the estimates using random-effects meta-analysis for various predictor thresholds. From 12,623 citations, we included 33 studies involving 6077 pregnancies. The odds of preterm birth 3.5 MoM (OR 2.35, 95 % CI 1.12-4.96, I2=NA) while higher odds of preterm birth at less then 32 weeks was seen among women with 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D level less then 75 nmol/l (OR 3.01, 95 % CI 1.26-7.19, I2=NA). Delivery within seven days of testing was significantly increased in women with a positive Matrix Metallo Protein-8 (MMP-8) test (OR 10.59, 95 % CI 3.70-30.29, I2=NA). Fetal Fibronectin is strongly associated with predicting preterm birth among women with twin pregnancies who are either asymptomatic or symptomatic for preterm birth as well as in those asymptomatic for preterm birth. Other biomarkers have shown a positive association in the prediction of preterm birth among women with twin pregnancies. Further studies are recommended to evaluate their role. Background Free triiodothyronine (FT3)/free thyroxine (FT4) ratio is an index estimating the peripheral activity of thyroid hormones. In a previous experience, we identified a prognostic role for FT3/FT4 ratio in chemorefractory patients treated with regorafenib. Therefore, we planned this post hoc analysis of the phase III CORRECT trial of regorafenib versus placebo. Methods Seven hundred fifty-eight out of 760 randomised patients (503 in the regorafenib and 255 in the placebo arm) were evaluable for the present analyses, based on availability of FT3 and FT4 baseline values. Co-primary objectives were to explore the predictive role of FT3/FT4 ratio in patients treated with regorafenib compared with placebo and to validate the prognostic value of FT3/FT4 ratio in the CORRECT trial. Results For patients randomised to regorafenib, median overall survival (OS) was 4.0, 7.5 and 9.8 months in low, intermediate and high FT3/FT4 ratio subgroups, respectively. Hazard ratio (HR) for OS was 0.40 (p less then 0.0001) when comparing intermediate versus low and 0.32 (p less then 0.0001) when comparing high versus low FT3/FT4 ratio. In the placebo arm, median OS was 3.3, 5.6 and 7.7 months, in the three subgroups. HR for OS was 0.47 (p less then 0.0001) when comparing intermediate versus low and 0.33 (p less then 0.0001) when comparing high versus low. FT3/FT4 ratio retained its association with OS in the multivariate model in both arms. Conclusions While rejecting the predictive effect of baseline FT3/FT4 ratio, present data strengthen the prognostic role of the ratio, pave the way for direct clinical application, underline the need for a better biological understanding and suggest possible therapeutic implications for thyroid hormones. Background Air pollution, which represents a major environmental risk to human health, comprises a complex mixture of compounds where only little is known about its specific toxicities. Objectives This study examined the specific toxicities associated with ambient air pollutant mixtures with respect to gas/particle partitioning, particulate matter (PM) size, pollutant polarity and bioaccessibility from PM, and evaluated the contribution of PAHs and their oxygenated and nitrated derivatives (OPAHs, NPAHs). Methods Air samples (gas phase, PM10 and size-segregated PM), were collected at urban (in winter and summer) and background (winter) sites in the Czech Republic. The total and bioaccessible concentrations were addressed using organic solvent extraction and simulated lung fluid extraction, respectively. Organic extracts were also further fractionated according to polarity. Aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR)-mediated activity, anti-/estrogenicity, anti-/androgenicity, thyroid receptor (TR)-mediated activity and can health risk assessment. Except of parent PAHs in some cases, the targeted compounds contributed to the detected effects mostly to a relatively low extent implying huge data gaps in terms of endocrine disruptive potencies of targeted substances and the significance of other polar compounds present in ambient air. Background Boredom proneness has been demonstrated as a salient vulnerability factor for problematic mobile phone use. However, the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relationship are less investigated. In the current study, we constructed an integrative moderated mediation model to test the mediating role of depression and the moderating role of attentional control in the relationship between boredom proneness and problematic mobile phone use. Method A total of 1099 college students (Mage = 20.04; SD = 1.25) were recruited to fill out the questionnaires measuring boredom proneness, depression, problematic mobile phone use, and attentional control. Results Depression partially mediated the relationship between boredom proneness and problematic mobile phone use. Attentional control moderated the indirect relationship between boredom proneness and problematic mobile phone use through depression, with the indirect relationship being weaker for college students with higher levels of attentional control. Moreover, attentional control moderated the direct relationship between boredom proneness and problematic mobile phone use, in that this relationship was stronger for college students with higher levels of attentional control. Conclusions These findings illuminate the pathway through which boredom proneness is linked to problematic mobile phone use (i.e., mediation) and the condition on which the relationship between boredom proneness and problematic mobile phone use depends (i.e., moderation). More importantly, this study revealed the potential "double-edged sword" effect of attentional control. These findings have implications for early intervention and prevention of problematic mobile phone use in college students.Established qualitative analysis method for Chaigui granules based on UHPLC-Q-orbitrap-MS/MS and applied to its absorption properties studies. The LC-MS method was established to identify the structures of the components and metabolites. And then biosamples of rats after administration, e.g. intestinal solution, serum and brain microdialysate, were detected in rats with same method. Xcalibur 3.2 software was used for mass spectrum analysis and identification. Compound discover 3.0 was used for metabolite analysis. 95 chemical constituents were identified from Chaigui granules, including sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, lactones, tannins, organic acids, saponins and so on. 82 components and 11 metabolites were found in intestinal solution. 28 chemical constituents and 32 metabolites were found in serum. 15 chemical constituents were found in brain microdialysate. Vanillic acid, abiflorin, paeoniflorin, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, lactiflorin, Z-butylidenephthalide, saikosaponin c, saikosaponin a, atractylenolide III, saikosaponin g, saikosaponin b1, sesquiterpenes, butylphthalide, saikosaponin d and glycyrrhetinic acid directly passed through the blood-brain barrier, which might be speculated that Chaigui granule plays an antidepressant role mainly through regulating brain central mechanism and endocrine mechanism, and so on. It is a systematically applicable approach for rapid identification and relative quantitation of Chaigui granules in vivo by UHPLC-Q-orbitrap-MS/MS, provides an important basis for the safety evaluation and rational clinical application of Chaigui granules.
