The current review provides (a) an overview on the main molecular and cellular processes that take place during wound healing, (b) a brief introduction into conventional in vitro wound healing assays, and (c) a perspective on future cutaneous and vascular wound healing research using microfluidic technology.This study investigated whether the motor execution process of one finger movement in response to a start cue is influenced by the participation of another finger movement and whether the process of the finger movement is dependent on the movement direction. The participants performed a simple reaction time (RT) task, the abduction or flexion of one (index or little finger) or two fingers (index and little fingers). The RT of the prime mover for the finger abduction was significantly longer than that for the flexion, indicating that the time taken for the motor execution of the finger response is dependent on the movement direction. The RT of the prime mover was prolonged when the abduction of another finger, whose RT was longer than the flexion, was added. This caused closer RTs between the prime movers for a two-finger response compared with the RTs for a one finger response. The absolute difference in the RT between the index and little finger responses became smaller when two fingers responded together compared with one finger response. Those results are well explained by a view that the common motor drive triggers the prime movers when two fingers move together in response to a start cue.
The prevention and treatment of obesity and its cardio-metabolic complications are relevant issues worldwide. Among lifestyle approaches, very low-calorie ketogenic diets (VLCKD) have been shown to lead to rapid initial weight loss, resulting in better long-term weight loss maintenance. As no information on VLCKD studies carried on in a real-world setting are available, we conducted this multi-centre study in a real-world setting, aiming at assessing the efficacy and the safety of a specific multiphasic VLCKD program in women with overweight or obesity.
A multi-center, prospective, uncontrolled trial was conducted in 33 outpatient women (age range 27-60 y) with overweight or obesity (BMI 30.9 ± 2.7 kg/m
; waist circumference 96.0 ± 9.4 cm) who started a VLCKD dietary program (duration 24 weeks), divided into four phases. The efficacy of VLCKD was assessed by evaluating anthropometric measures and cardiometabolic markers; liver and kidney function biomarkers were assessed as safety parameters.

Our study was conducted on 150 subjects without a history of cardiovascular diseases, treated as outpatients for a mild/moderate form of COVID-19 4 to 12 weeks prior to study inclusion, and who were diagnosed with post-acute COVID-19 and attended a cardiology evaluation with transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) for persisting symptoms. We detected various cardiac abnormalities in 38 subjects (25.33%), including pulmonary hypertension (9.33%), impaired left ventricular performance (8.66%), diastolic dysfunction (14%) and/or evidence of pericarditis (10%). Discussing prognosis is challenging, and might be especially complex for oncologists conducting a second opinion (SO). Survival data are often lacking, and consulting oncologists need to consider previously conveyed information and patients' relationship with the referring oncologist. We qualitatively investigated how advanced cancer patients and consulting oncologists discuss prognosis during audio-recorded SO consultations (N = 60), including prognostic information received from the referring oncologist. Our results show that patients regularly expressed implicit cues to discuss prognosis or posed explicit questions tentatively. Consulting oncologists were mostly unresponsive to patients' cues and cautious to prognosticate. They also seemed cautious when patients brought up the referring oncologist. Consulting oncologists checked which prognostic information patients had received from the referring oncologist, before estimating prognosis. They agreed with the first opinion or rectified discrepancies carefully. Altogether, this study exposes missed opportunities for open prognostic discussions in SOs. Consulting oncologists could explicitly explore patients' information preferences and perceptions of prognosis. If desired, they can provide tailored, independent information to optimise patients' prognostic awareness and informed medical decision-making. They may additionally support patients in dealing with prognosis and the uncertainties associated with it.
