As one of the major problems for the health sector, morbid obesity is associated with many hormonal dysfunctions, including thyroid hormone disorders. Few studies have been performed on improving subclinical and clinical hypothyroidism following bariatric surgery. Therefore, we designed and conducted this study to evaluate the effect of various types of bariatric surgery on thyroid hormone levels and to assess the change of levothyroxine requirement in these patients.

The data of all patients who underwent either sleeve gastrectomy (SG) or one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) surgery in the 5years from 2016 to 2020 at our hospital were analyzed retrospectively.

From 1486 patients (792 cases of SG and 694 cases of OAGB), 281 patients had preoperative abnormal thyroid function tests subclinical hypothyroidism (102 patients) and clinical hypothyroidism (179 patients). The T4 level did not change significantly in any of the groups and subgroups. However, the TSH level at the end of the sixth month after SG and OAGB in both groups significantly lowered. Nevertheless, there is no significant difference between the effect of SG and OAGB surgical procedures on the rate of TSH and T4 alterations in both subclinical and clinical hypothyroid patients. In the sixth month after surgery, 49% of clinically hypothyroid patients in the SG group (n = 179) reduced or stopped taking the medication.

Currently, there is a paucity of US FDA-approved filters that provide protection against long UVA (> 370 nm) and none against visible light. Additionally, various sunscreen additives such as antioxidants and photolyases have also been reported to protect against and possibly reverse signs of photoaging. This literature review evaluates the utility of sunscreen in protecting against photoaging and further explores the requirements for an ideal sunscreen.

To investigate the effects of structured moderate-intensity aerobic exercise on blood glucose, insulin, and pregnancy outcomes in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

To reduce environmental problems associated with waste, this study considered the recycling of agro-industrial wastes, such as sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA), rice husk ash (RHA), and others, into cement, and to finally bring sustainable and environmental-friendly concrete. This study considered 5%, 10%, and 15% of SBCA and RHA individually to replace ordinary Portland cement (OPC) by weight method then combined both ashes as 10%, 20%, and 30% to replace OPC to produce sustainable concrete. It was experimentally declared that the strength performance of concrete was reduced while utilizing SCBA and RHA individually and combined as supplementary cementitious material (SCM) at 7, 28, 56, and 90 days, respectively. Moreover, the initial and final setting time is increased as the quantity of replacement level of OPC with SCBA and RHA separates and together as SCM in the mixture. The tree forage evaluated were C. arborea, E. fusca, B. forficata, E. link3 poeppigiana, C. argentea, G. sepium, C. tora, and F. macrophylla. Ruminal fluid of four adult sheep fistulated with permanent cannulas in the rumen was used in the in vitro gas production technique. The in vitro gas production parameters were lower (P less then 0.05) in the C. arborea (A = 41.68 mL gas/g DM, c = 0.044%/h and Lag = 1.654 h) and the average gas production rate for B. forficata was 1.017 mL/h (P less then 0.05). C. arborea presented higher (P = 0.0001) effective degradation and real DM digestibility (40.461 g/kg and 82.51 mg/g, respectively). It is considered a low-cost and highly effective approach with fewer side effects compared to chemical and physical techniques. This depends on the metabolic capability of microorganisms involved in the degradation of hydrocarbons through enzymatic reactions. Bioremediation activities mostly depend on environmental conditions such as temperature, pH, salinity, pressure, and nutrition availability. Understanding the effects of environmental conditions on microbial hydrocarbon degraders and microbial interactions with hydrocarbon compounds could be assessed for the successful degradation of petroleum pollution. The current review provides a critical view of petroleum pollution in seawater, the bioavailability of petroleum compounds, the contribution of microorganisms in petroleum degradation, and the mechanisms of degradation under aerobic and anaerobic conditions.
