BACKGROUND The correctional setting presents an opportunity for latent TB infection (LTBI) screening in an otherwise difficult to reach demographic. We evaluate factors associated with the fidelity of the tuberculin skin test (TST) and interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA), specifically the QuantiFERON®-TB Gold In-Tube assay (QFT-GIT), explain factors associated with discordance, and report LTBI treatment outcomes.METHODS We describe the association between demographic and clinical variables, and predictors of concordance with IGRA using univariate logistic regression in a population of TST-positive inmates. We report outcomes among those offered LTBI treatment.RESULTS We observed concordance between TST and QFT-GIT in 90 of 306 (29.4%) inmates. Persons with TST+/QFT-GIT+ results were less likely to be male (OR 3.94, 95% CI 1.73-8.97) or have a BCG vaccination history (OR 0.34, 95% CI 0.12-0.95), and more likely to be foreign-born (P less then 0.001). Of the 108 inmates offered LTBI treatment, 65 (60.1%) accepted and 51 (78.0%) completed. TST/QFT-GIT discordance has not been associated with disease during follow-up.CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that TST/QFT-GIT discordance in Canadian federal inmates is common; however, low-risk of disease progression in those with discordance suggests that a shift towards IGRA-based screening is warranted and feasible.Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, models predicted hundreds of thousands of additional TB deaths as a result of health service disruption. To date, empirical evidence on the effects of COVID-19 on TB outcomes has been limited. Here we summarise the evidence available at a country level, identifying broad mechanisms by which COVID-19 may modify TB burden and mitigation efforts. We investigated the yield of active case finding (ACF) by calculating the number needed to screen (NNS) to detect a case of active TB among PLWH.METHODS We identified studies reporting ACF for TB among PLWH published from November 2010 to February 2020. MADS-box transcription factors function as homo- or heterodimers and regulate many aspects of plant development; moreover, MADS-box genes have undergone extensive duplication and divergence. For example, the morphological diversity of floral organs is closely related to the functional divergence of the MADS-box gene family. B-class genes (such as Arabidopsis thaliana APETALA3 [AP3] and PISTILLATA [PI]) belong to a subgroup of MADS-box genes. Here, we collected 97 MADS-box B protein sequences from 21 seed plant species and examined their motifs to better understand the functional evolution of B proteins.

We used the MEME tool to identify conserved sequence motifs in these B proteins; unique motif arrangements and sequences were identified in these B proteins. The keratin-like domains of Malus domestica and Populus trichocarpa B proteins differed from those in other angiosperms, suggesting that a novel regulatory network might have evolved in these species. The MADS domains of Nelumbo nucifera, Glycine max,o two groups, those with motif 9 (N. nucifera and G. max), and those with motif 1.
