Antecedents included strategic planning, identification of potential individuals, leadership development, mentoring programs, and identification of leadership competencies. Consequences of succession planning appeared to be related to retention, recruitment, improved leadership competencies, decreased role transition stress, and a healthier work environment. Succession planning has been defined as the proactive strategy involving the purposeful identification, assessment, and development of individuals through the processes of educating and mentoring for future leadership positions and establishing leadership continuity within an institution. Succession planning is needed for the continued growth and development academic nursing leaders.Few studies have examined the possibility that pre- and post-natal factors may be non-linearly associated with later physical activity. We used data from the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort study (MoBa) and the Medical Birth Registry of Norway (MBRN), including 48 672 children with available data on leisure time physical activity (LTPA) at child's age 7 years. Restricted cubic and linear splines or linear regression was used to examine the associations between maternal pre-pregnancy BMI, birth weight for gestational age, and infant weight gain from birth to 1 year with LTPA (frequency/wk) in 7-year-old children. The results suggest no associations between maternal pre-pregnancy BMI, birth weight, and infant weight gain on subsequent LTPA in girls. Maternal pre-pregnancy BMI and birth weight may be non-linearly associated with LTPA in 7-year-old boys. Infant weight gain (change in weight z-score from birth to 1 year) may be weakly linearly associated with LTPA in boys. Pre- and post-natal factors may therefore influence LTPA in childhood differently in boys and girls. Climbazole in vivo Maternal pre-pregnancy BMI and birth weight are positively associated with LTPA at the lower ends of the maternal pre-pregnancy BMI and birth weight continuums in boys. The negative associations at the higher ends of the continuums and the positive association between infant weight gain and LTPA in boys may not be important and needs further replication.

To clarify the outcome and predictive factors in patients with acute liver failure (ALF) awaiting deceased donor liver transplantation (DDLT) in Japan.

Of the DDLT candidates in Japan between 2007 and 2016, 264 adult patients with ALF were retrospectively enrolled in this study. Factors associated with DDLT and waiting-list mortality were assessed using the Cox proportional hazard model. The DDLT and transplant-free survival probabilities were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier analysis and the log-rank test.

The waiting-list registration year after the Transplant Law revision in 2010 was a significant factor associated with DDLT. The adjusted hazard ratio indicated that DDLT probability after 2010 was four times higher than that before, and the 28-day cumulative DDLT probability was more than 35%. The median survival time of the entire cohort was 40days. Multivariate analysis identified the following three factors associated with waiting-list mortality age, coma grade, and international normalized ratio. The transplant-free survival probabilities were significantly stratified by the number of risks, and patients with all three risks showed extremely poor short-term prognosis (median survival time = 23days).

The DDLT probability of ALF patients increased after the law revision in 2010; however, patients at high risk of short-term waiting-list mortality might need emergent living donor transplantation.

The DDLT probability of ALF patients increased after the law revision in 2010; however, patients at high risk of short-term waiting-list mortality might need emergent living donor transplantation.Starting as a therapeutically option for high-risk surgical patients with degenerative aortic valve stenosis, the transcatheter aortic valve implantation method is probably going to become the method of choice for this pathology also in younger and low-risk patients. As bioprosthesis are prone to degeneration, requiring a redo procedure, whenever a valve in valve procedure is contraindicated, a surgical valve replacement will become necessary. We describe a simple surgical method for explantation of a Sapien XT prosthesis that was implanted 7 years previously in a calcified aortic valve.Surface modification of SiO2 using a catalyst-free quantitative reaction between an amine and an ethynyl-π-extended naphthalenediimide was investigated. A post-reaction method, in which the catalyst-free reaction was performed at the surface after the formation of amino-terminated self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), resulted in dense, uniform modification of the SiO2 surface with the naphthalenediimide molecules. Both X-ray reflectivity and angle-resolved X-ray photoemission spectroscopy showed consistent results for the layer thickness and density. In contrast, a pre-reaction method, in which an amino-silane and the ethynyl-π-extended naphthalenediimide reacted first and then formed a SAM, afforded a sparse SAM on the SiO2 surface, probably due to the steric hindrance of the naphthalenediimide moieties. The in situ decoration of the SiO2 surface by a catalyst-free quantitative reaction offers a facile route for modifying surface properties with various π-conjugated molecules suitable for many applications.

This study examined the growth trajectory of fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) and its predictors, and the association of that trajectory with the beliefs and rates of medication adherence in patients with breast cancer.

Two hundred and ten patients with breast cancer undergoing adjuvant endocrine therapy in a university hospital in Seoul, Korea, were followed up five times over 18 months following surgery, and data from the final 162 patients were analyzed.

Latent class growth analysis identified three classes. Classes 1 (38.31%) and 2 (39.89%) showed low and moderate FCR levels, respectively, with a decreasing trend over time. Class 3 (21.80%) showed a high FCR level with an initially decreasing but increasing trend afterward s. Lower education and unemployed status were associated with the high FCR class. Higher depression was more associated with the moderate FCR class than the low FCR class. Higher emotional representation was more associated with the high FCR class than with low FCR class, and greater illness comprehension was more associated with the moderate FCR class than with the high FCR class.
