Frozen-thawed Meishan epididymal spermatozoa showing moderate and high polyspermy were subjected to IVF (1 × 105 sperms/ml). Under conditions of moderate polyspermy, 4-cell embryos selected at 48 hr after IVF (single selection) and 8-cell embryos selected at 79 hr after IVF from the collected 4-cell embryos (double selection) showed high developmental competence. Likewise, 4- and 8-cell embryos produced by IVF under high polyspermy conditions also showed high competence for development to blastocysts. However, blastocysts derived from high polyspermy conditions had significantly fewer cells than those produced under moderate polyspermy conditions. Here, we report a chromosome-level genome assembly of C. salicifolius, comprising 820.1 Mb of genomic sequence with a contig N50 of 2.3 Mb and containing 36,651 annotated protein-coding genes. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that magnoliids were sister to the eudicots. Two rounds of ancient whole genome duplication were inferred in the C. salicifolious genome. One is shared by Calycanthaceae after its divergence with Lauraceae and the other is in the ancestry of Magnoliales and Laurales. Notably, long genes with >20 kb in length were much more prevalent in the magnoliid genomes compared to other angiosperms, which could be caused by the length expansion of introns inserted by transposon elements. Homologous genes within the flavonoid pathway for C. salicifolius were identified, and correlation of the gene expression and the contents of flavonoid metabolites revealed potential critical genes involved in flavonoids biosynthesis. This study not only provides an additional whole genome sequence from the magnoliids but also opens the door to functional genomic research and molecular breeding of C. salicifolius.We examined whether a key psychological trait-resilience, defined as one's ability to recover quickly from difficulties-contributes to the frail phenotype in patients with cirrhosis. Included were 300 adult patients with cirrhosis who underwent outpatient physical frailty testing using the Liver Frailty Index and resilience testing using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). The Liver Frailty Index was categorized as robust, prefrail-robust, prefrail-frail, and frail; CD-RISC was categorized using population norms as least, less, more, and most resilient. Linear regression was used to assess factors associated with frailty (by the Liver Frailty Index per 0.1 unit change). Among the most resilient, only 10% were frail; among the least resilient, 29% were frail. In univariable analysis, resilience was strongly associated with the Liver Frailty Index (coef=-0.13 per point increase; 95% CI, -0.20- -0.60; p less then 0.001) and remained significantly associated with frailty in multivariable adjustment (coef= -0.13, 95% CI -0.19- -0.07; p less then 0.001). Low resilience is strongly associated with the frail phenotype in patients with cirrhosis. Given that resilience is modifiable, our data suggest that effective interventions to mitigate frailty should include strategies to build resilience in patients with low baseline resilience.Surface-mounted Metal-Organic Frameworks (SURMOFs) show promising behavior for a manifold of applications. As MOF thin-films are often unsuitable for conventional characterization techniques, understanding their advantageous properties over their bulk counterparts presents a great analytical challenge. In this work, we demonstrate that MOFs can be grown on calcium fluoride (CaF 2 ) windows after proper functionalization. As CaF 2 is optically (in the IR- and UV-Vis-range of the spectrum) transparent, this allows to study SURMOFs using a conventional spectroscopic tool typically used during catalysis or gas sorption. Hence, we have measured HKUST-1 during the adsorption of CO and NO. We show that no copper oxide impurities are observed and also confirmed that SURMOFs grown by a layer-by-layer (LbL) approach possess Cu + -species in paddlewheel confirmation, but 1.9 times less than in bulk HKUST-1.
