Global solid biofuel stove emissions for the year 2010 contribute to 382,000 [95% confidence interval (95CI) 349,000-409,000] annual premature deaths associated with PM2.5 and O3 exposure, with the corresponding years of life lost as 8.10 million years (95CI 7.38-8.70 million years). Our study highlights air quality and human health benefits of mitigating emissions from the global solid biofuel stove sector, especially over populous regions of low-income and middle-income countries, through promoting clean household energy programs for the residential energy supply. To control and prevent the risk of diabetes, diabetes studies have identified the need to better understand and evaluate the associations between influencing indicators and the prevalence of diabetes. One constraint has been that influencing indicators have been selected mainly based on subjective judgment and tested using traditional statistical modeling methods. We proposed a framework new to diabetes studies using data-driven and spatial methods to identify the most significant influential determinants of diabetes automatically and estimated their relationships. We used data from diabetes mellitus patients' health insurance records in Shandong province, China, and collected influencing indicators of diabetes prevalence at the county level in the sociodemographic, economic, education, and geographical environment domains. We specified a framework to identify automatically the most influential determinants of diabetes, and then established the relationship between these selected influencing indicators and diabetes prevalence. Our autocorrelation results showed that the diabetes prevalence in 12 Shandong cities was significantly clustered (Moran's I = 0.328, p less then 0.01). In total, 17 significant influencing indicators were selected by executing binary linear regressions and lasso regressions. The spatial error regressions in different subgroups were subject to different diabetes indicators. Some positive indicators existed significantly like per capita fruit production and other indicators correlated with diabetes prevalence negatively like the proportion of green space. Diabetes prevalence was mainly subjected to the joint effects of influencing indicators. This framework can help public health officials to inform the implementation of improved treatment and policies to attenuate diabetes diseases.[This corrects the article DOI 10.1021/acsomega.9b02930.].This work presents a new oscillating reaction based on chlorate and observed in a CSTR at room temperature. This can be the first member of a new family of oscillating reactions. In addition, it is also the first oscillating reaction to use nitrous acid as a reactant. Four different behaviors were observed simple oscillations, mixed mode oscillations, bursts, and quasiperiodicity. The period of oscillations is very short, which is around 1 s. Together with the fact that it also shows fast bursts, it opens the possibility that it can be used to simulate fast biological events, like the neuron's communications signals.Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a worldwide pandemic. Nintedanib mw To understand the changes in plasma proteomics upon SARS-CoV-2 infection, we analyzed the protein profiles of plasma samples from 10 COVID-19 patients and 10 healthy volunteers by using the DIA quantitative proteomics technology. We compared and identified differential proteins whose abundance changed upon SARS-CoV-2 infection. Bioinformatic analyses were then conducted for these identified differential proteins. The GO/KEEG database was used for functional annotation and enrichment analysis. The interaction relationship of differential proteins was evaluated with the STRING database, and Cytoscape software was used to conduct network analysis of the obtained data. A total of 323 proteins were detected in all samples. Difference between patients and healthy donors was found in 44 plasma proteins, among which 36 proteins were up-regulated and 8 proteins were down-regulated. GO functional annotation showed that these proteins mostly composed of cellular anatomical entities and proteins involved in biological regulation, cellular processes, transport, and other processes. KEEG functional annotation further showed that these proteins were mainly involved in complement system activation and infectious disease processes. Importantly, a KEEG pathway (natural killer cell-mediated cytotoxicity) was enriched, with three important activators of this pathway, ICAM1/2 and IgG, being up-regulated. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) statistics indicated that, among these 44 proteins, 6 were the most significantly up-regulated (DBH, SHGB, TF, ICAM2, THBS1, and C1RL) while 2 were the most significantly down-regulated (APCS and ORM1). Results from this study showed that a few proteins associated with immune activation were up-regulated in patient plasma. In addition, this study established a method for extraction and quantitative determination of plasma components in convalescent plasma from COVID-19 patients.Humic acid and l-cysteine-codecorated magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (HA/LC-MNPs) were synthesized using a coprecipitation method. Humic acid fractions abundant with carboxyl and hydroxyl groups can be selectively coated on the surface of MNPs during synthesis. HA/LC-MNPs with abundant heteroatoms (N, S, and O) show excellent removal capacity, great selectivity, and also fast trapping of Hg2+ in a wide pH range. The adsorption capacity of HA/LC-MNPs for Hg2+ can reach 206.5 mg/g, and the chemisorption was attributed to the major adsorption form. In competitive adsorption, HA/LC-MNPs preferentially adsorbed Hg2+ with an affinity order of Hg2+ > > Pb2+ > Cu2+ ≫ Zn2+ > Cd2+. In total, 93.91% of Hg2+ can be quickly captured in the presence of a 6000 times higher concentration of competing metal ions (Pb2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, and Zn2+) within 30 min. The adsorption mechanism was analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It suggested that the HA/LC-MNPs enhanced the adsorption capacity of Hg2+ because of the complexing abilities of the multiple thiol, amino, and carboxyl groups in sorbents with Hg2+, the ion exchange ability of the carboxyl group, and the negative charge surface. All in all, HA/LC-MNPs are a potentially useful and economic material for the selective removal of Hg2+ from polluted water.
