Globally, over 37.9 million people are living with HIV in 2018 and sub-Saharan Africa carries 71% of the global HIV epidemics. In Ethiopia, there were an estimated 613,000 HIV cases in 2017. This study aimed to assess the trend of HIV incidence in the Amhara Region, Ethiopia.
A retrospective descriptive study was conducted using routine HIV data from 2015 to 2018. We extracted HIV records from the Amhara Regional Health Bureau database. Data confidentiality was secured through data anonymity. Data were entered, cleaned and analyzed by IBM SPSS version 22 (Armonk, NY, USA). Various descriptive statistics such as counts, proportions and trends were computed to see the magnitude of HIV in the study area.
A total of 57,293 new HIV cases were reported from 2015 to 2018 and 33,720 (59%) were females. The majority, 40,054 (70%), of HIV cases were among people in 25-49 years. The overall incidence rate of HIV from 2015 to 2018 was 6.9 per 1000 population. The annual HIV incidence rates were 7.3. 6.3, 7.4 and 6.ems, and making HIV screening services available in all healthcare facilities are crucial to decrease HIV infection. Special attention is also required to avoid risk factors that increased HIV incidence among females.

Data are from a community-based, USAID-funded Kizazi Kipya project that aims at increasing the uptake of HIV services, as well as other health and social services by OVC and their caregivers in Tanzania. Caregivers who were enrolled in the project from January to July 2017 in seven regions of Tanzania, and had reported their HIV status to the project, were included in the analysis. While HIV status was the outcome, the main independent variable was food insufficiency which was assessed using the Household Hunger Scale (HHS). Using Stata (version 14.0; StataCorp LP, College Station, TX, USA), data analysis involved multilevel mixed-effects h a higher likelihood of HIV infection among OVC caregivers in Tanzania, suggesting that improving access to adequate food has a potential to reduce HIV risks among them. The aim of this paper was to review the current literature on cavity bases while focusing on the role of zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE) and resin-modified glass ionomers (RMGI) as cavity bases.
A thorough literature search between 1970 and 2020 was done using Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases. The keywords of the search strategy were as below cavity liners and bases, pulp protection, zinc oxide eugenol, and resin-modified glass ionomer. No specific inclusion or exclusion criteria were applied as to what articles would be included in this review.
This review emphasizes that the available literature provides very little evidence to support the routine use of a base under amalgam or composite restorations. This review favors the adoption of "no more lining or bases" in shallow and moderate cavity preparations. However, an exception might be a "protective base" of RMGI following the application of calcium hydroxide (CH) liners in deep cavities. Bonded RMGIs are suitable cavity base materials and should always replace zinc oxide eugenol bases in daily practice.

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) is an uncommon benign odontogenic lesion with varied clinical and histological presentation. It has slow growth potential and a low recurrence rate. The tumor is mainly seen in females in the second decade of life, predominantly affecting the maxilla and associated most often with unerupted canine teeth, earning the epithet "two-thirds tumor". There are three variants intrafollicular, extrafollicular, and peripheral. The peripheral or extra osseous type is a rare form that arises in gingival tissue.
This article describes a case of AOT in a 10-year-old girl who presented with gingival enlargement in relation to the maxillary left central incisor. Interestingly, intraoral periapical radiography did not show any significant findings. However, cone-beam computed tomography of the site revealed significant bone loss in the area. A surgical excision was done. Histopathological examination revealed features of AOT. Based on clinical, radiographic, and histological evidence, a diagnosis of peripheral AOT (PAOT) was made.

With literature still ambiguous on the origin of the tumor and biological course, it becomes imperative to examine any gingival swelling in children with a proper clinical examination, periapical radiography, and if necessary cone-beam computed tomography. At the same time, "focal osteoporotic bone marrow defects" (BoneMarrowDefects = BMD) in jawbone are the subject of scientific presentations and discussions.
Can a newly developed trans-alveolar ultrasonic sonography (TAU-n) device locate and ascertain BMD?
TAU-n consists of a two-part handpiece with an extraoral ultrasound transmitter and an intraoral ultrasound receiver. The TAU-n computer display shows the different jawbone densities with corresponding colour coding. The changes in jawbone density are also displayed numerically. The validation of TAU-n readings A usual orthopantomogram (2D-OPG) on its own is not suitable for unequivocally determining jawbone density and has to be excluded from this validation. For validation, a 3D-digital volume tomogram@/cone beam computer tomogram (DVT@/CBCT) with the capacity to measure Hounsfield units (HU) and a TAU-n are used to determine the presence of preoperative BMD in 82 patient cases. Postoperatively, histology samples and multiplex analysis of RANTES@/CCL5 (R@/C) expression derived from surgically cleaned BMD areas are evaluated.
In all 82 bone samples, DVT-HU, TAU-n values and R/C expressions show the presence of BMD with chronic inflammatory character. However, five histology samples showed no evidence of BMD. All four evaluation criteria (DVT-HU, TAU-n, R/C, histology) confirm the presence of BMD in each of the 82 samples.
The TAU-n method almost completely matches the diagnostic reliability of the other methods. The newly developed TAU-n scanner is a reliable and radiation-free option to detect BMD.
