In the context of global climate change, research efforts were focused on the association of ambient temperatures on maternal and neonatal health condition, but few have examined associations with low Apgar scores. From January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2018, all singleton deliveries of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region were extracted from the Hospital Information System (N = 182,322). Daily temperature data were obtained from the official website of China Meteorological Administration. Low Apgar scores were defined as Apgar score ≤ 3 at 5 min in the present study. Logistic regression models were used to estimate the adjusted association between prenatal temperature exposure and low Apgar scores. Restricted cubic spline models were used to explore the dose-response relationship between temperature and low Apgar scores. The study population included 182,322 live singleton births, with 1575 (0.86%) cases of low Apgar scores. The elevated ambient temperature in different exposure timing windows in late pregnancy was associated with increased risk of low Apgar scores. As compared to moderate (10th-90th) temperature exposure, prenatal exposure to extreme hot (>90th) was associated with 13.9-47.0% increased risk of low Apgar scores, while non-significant relationship was found between extreme cold ( less then 10th) exposure and low Apgar scores. The restricted cubic spline models showed a U-shaped relationship between prenatal temperature exposure and low Apgar scores (P for non-linearity less then 0.05). Exposure to high ambient temperature during late pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of low Apgar scores in northwest China.Cereal-based foods are utilized as an essential food segment worldwide. Nevertheless, their contamination by mycotoxins, also fumonisins, could pose a critical health risk. The present research provides the first systematic review regarding the prevalence and concentration of fumonisins in cereal-based food with the aid of a meta-analysis. In this regard, some international databases PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Scopus were explored during the last 30 years. Among 9729 screened articles, 73 articles (which meet the proposed inclusion criteria), including 11,132 data, were incorporated in the performed meta-analysis. The overall rank order regarding the concentration of fumonisins in cereal-based foods was corn-based foods > wheat-based foods > other cereal foods > barley-based foods > rice-based foods > oat-based foods. Based on the prevalence of fumonisins, the overall rank order was other cereal foods > corn-based foods > rice-based foods > wheat-based foods > oat-based foods > barley-based food. The present meta-analysis results can be a beneficial database for risk assessment model progress, which can help industries and organizations decrease the presence of fumonisins in cereal-based food.Bixafen (BIX) is a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI)-class fungicide that is used to control crop diseases. However, data on the toxicity of BIX to zebrafish are limited. Here, zebrafish embryos were exposed to 0.1, 0.3, and 0.9 μM BIX. After BIX exposure, zebrafish embryos exhibited cardiac dysplasia and dysfunction, including pericardial edema, reduced heart rate, and drastically decreased erythrocytes in the cardiac area; the severity of these negative effects increased with BIX concentration and the duration of BIX exposure. In addition, the transcription levels of erythropoiesis-related genes decreased significantly in BIX-treated embryos, as compared to untreated control embryos. Similarly, compared with the control, key genes responsible for cardiac development (myh6, nkx2.5, and myh7) also exhibited dysregulated expression patterns in response to BIX treatment, suggesting that BIX might specifically affect cardiac development. Finally, cell apoptosis was induced in embryos after BIX treatment. In combination, our results suggested that exposure to BIX induced cardiac toxicity in zebrafish. These data will be valuable for future evaluations of the environmental risks of BIX.Fenvalerate (type II synthetic pyrethroid), widely used in agricultural practices, find its way into aquatic ecosystem through air, by runoff, or by percolation to groundwater. It is an extremely toxic insecticide for aquatic organisms especially fish. In the present study, the fenvalerate (FEN) induced toxicity and the protective efficacy of ascorbic acid (AA) against FEN in Ctenopharyngodon idella was evaluated by studying the structural alterations in scales, erythrocytes and gills. Paeoniflorin inhibitor The fishes were exposed to 1.2 μg/L and 2 μg/L of FEN and orally administered with 1000 mg/kg diet of AA. The fishes were scrutinized on 15th, 30th and 60th day of experiment. link2 Scanning electron microscopic studies (SEM) of FEN-treated fish revealed extensive morphological alterations on the microstructure of scales including deformed focus, uprooted lepidonts and tubercles, hole formation and worn out calcareous material from the surface. FEN intoxication induced severe damage on erythrocytes including formation of dacrocytes, serrated spherocytes, echinocytes with oozed out cytoplasmic content, contracted plasma membrane and appearance of lobopodial projections. Ultrastructural studies in gills declared profound lesions in the form of aneurysm, loss of secondary lamellae and destructed microstructures of pavement cells. On the other hand, supplementation of AA in diet mitigated the impairment provoked by FEN on the scales, erythrocytes and gills due to its antioxidant properties.Ambient fine particulate matter of 2.5 μm or less in diameter (PM2.5) of environment contamination is deemed as a risk factor of cerebrovascular diseases. Yet there is still no explicit evidence strongly supporting that PM2.5 with per unit increment can increase the risk of hemorrhagic stroke (HS). Literatures were searched from PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase. After the systemic review of relevant studies, random effects model was used to perform meta-analysis and to evaluate the association between PM2.5 and risk of HS. Seven cohort studies were finally included, involving more than 6 million people and 37,667 endpoint events (incidence or mortality of HS). Total scores of quality assessment were 50. Pooled hazard ratio (HR) for crude HRs was 1.13 (95%CI 1.09-1.17) (CI for confidence interval). Pooled HR of subgroup analysis for current smoking with exposure to growing PM2.5 was 1.14 (95%CI 0.92-2.15) and for never and former smoking was 1.04 (95%CI 0.74-1.46). Ambient PM2.5 level is significantly associated with the risk of HS, which might be a potential risk factor of HS. Smoking does not further increase the risk of HS under exposure of PM2.5.The effect of the incorporation of mineralizing Bacillus spp. on the characteristics of fluorescent organic matter (FDOM) in a recirculating aquaculture system (Nile tilapia-Stevia rebaudiana) was evaluated. EEM-PARAFAC analysis was used to determine the composition of the dissolved organic matter and to study its relationship with nitrogen transformation. The composition and antioxidant activity of Stevia leaves were used as indicators of the benefits of bacterial supplementation on nutrient absorption. link3 Two systems were used, each consisting of a circular fish tank (1.7 m3) and six units of the nutrient film (0.18 m3). One system was supplemented with bacteria (BS), while the other was used as control (NBS). The inclusion of Bacillus spp. facilitated mineralization and the availability of total phosphorus (TP), K+, and nitrogen, and also controlled the total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) for 56 days without water exchange. FDOM was modeled by four components (3-humic-like, 1-protein-like), which were good indicators of the process of mineralization. The fluorescence intensity in the biofilter was significantly correlated with TP, K+, temperature, and the absorption coefficient a254. The fluorescence index (FI) was a good indicator of the process of nitrification. Plants from BS required 46.4% less NO3- and 47.8% less K+ compared to the control, and absorbed 45.1% more TP. BS-Stevia leaves produced 38.6% more reducing sugars, 28.6% more flavonoids, and 35.9% more glycosylated flavonoids than the control. The fish in the BS system reached a higher final weight than NBS, resulting in a 1 kg/m3 higher gross yield. Even so, it will be necessary to reduce the pH of the water to increase the antioxidant scavenging capacity of the plants. The magnetic Fe3O4 was synthesized by using a one-step solvothermal method. Then, anhydrous ethanol as a solvent, tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide (TMAOH) as an auxiliary agent, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as a silicon source, and (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) as amino source were used to prepare Fe3O4@mSiO2-NH2 by using the sol-gel method. Uniform design U14*(145) and the response surface method (RSM) were used to optimize the synthesis ratio. According to the results of TEM, SEM, N2 adsorption-desorption test, VSM, and XRD, it found that the best coating effect obtained when the relative molar ratio of TMAOHTEOSAPTESFe3O4 was 5460.45. The results of EDS and elemental analysis confirmed the success of amino group coating; VSM magnetization after surface modification was 32 emu/g; BET results show that specific surface area is 236 m2/g, size 5 nm, and the pore volume is 0.126 cm3/g. The removal of Cu2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+ by Fe3O4@mSiO2-NH2 was studied at the optimal initial pH value 6 of the adsorption test system. The isothermal adsorption results show that the Langmuir model and Redlich-Peterson model are more suitable than the Freundlich model to describe the adsorption behavior, and Cu2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+ adsorption is mainly single molecular layer. The maximum adsorption capacity qm of the Langmuir model for Cu2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+ removal was 48.04 mg/g, 41.31 mg/g, and 62.17 mg/g, respectively. The adsorption kinetic rates of Cu2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+ on Fe3O4@mSiO2-NH2 relatively more suitable for pseudo-second-order kinetic model, i.e., R2, were ranged between 0.995 and 0.999, and the suitable reaction time was 60 min. These results proved that Fe3O4@m-SiO2-NH2 prepared by using this method is easy to synthesize, has easy recovery, is ecofriendly, and can be potential adsorbent for Cu2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+ removal. The majority of studies investigating the environmental Kuznets curve predominantly focus on atmospheric indicators, thereby neglecting other environmental indicators such as land, sea, coastal, coral reefs, freshwater, and biodiversity indicators. This study aims to examine the environmental Kuznets curve by using capture fisheries production as a biodiversity indicator. The study uses a panel of 14 countries, of which 10 are newly industrialized and the other 4 are fast-emerging countries. The study applies the CADF and CIPS unit root tests to identify the integration order as proposed by Pesaran (2007). After identifying the unique order of integration, the Westerlund (2007) panel cointegration is applied. A long-run relationship is confirmed among the variables. The study revealed that an N-pattern relationship exists between capture fisheries production (CFP) and growth of the economy in the panel of selected countries. The industry focuses on achieving a cleaner environment and promotes the sustainable development of the fisheries.
