Childhood cancer is a chronic disease with high survival rates. Childhood cancer survivors (CCS) can still face health effects later in their lives. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and the factors that modify it allow CCS and their families to improve care in the long-term follow-up. This study aims to (1) examine the differences in HRQoL between CCS of extracranial malignancies and a comparison group, and (2) explore the clinical, environmental and lifestyles factors implicated in the HRQoL of CCS.

In this cross-sectional study with a case vs. non-case comparison, the HRQoL of 117 CCS between 8 and 18 years old was compared with healthy non-cases paired by sex and age. The Pediatric Environmental History (PEHis) was applied to obtain information on sociodemographic, clinical, environmental and lifestyle factors. The PedsQL™ Generic Core Scales questionnaire was used to evaluate HRQoL.

In the multivariate analysis among the CCS, the following variables were significantly associated with HRQoL Poor outdoor air quality (Total, Psychosocial, Emotional, Social and School domains); household income (Total, Psychosocial and School domains); and the presence of late effects (Total, Physical, Psychosocial, and Social domains); regular contact with nature (Physical domain); and the daily hours of screen-time (Emotional domain). CCS present HRQoL results superior to the non-cases group in the physical domain (86.10 vs. 80.34; p=0.001), finding no differences in the other domains evaluated.

A central composite design that included five design points was used to determine the condition parameters for hydrothermal reaction time (1-5 h) and hydrothermal temperature (120-180 °C). A statistical method was used to observe the effects of hydrothermal conditions on the material properties and photocatalytic activity of a Fe-TiO2 nanotube catalyst. Scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis shows the iron is doped on the TNTs, which is further confirmed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction indicate the existing states of iron in the form of iron oxide on the TNT. The maximum degradation efficiency (92.3%) was achieved at a hydrothermal temperature of 150 °C and time of 3 h. It is found that the optimal medication of the Fe-TNT catalyst occurred at a particular combination of temperature (150 °C) and reaction time (3 h), that provide the more active sites for iron to enter the crystal lattice of TNT, and that the maximum CR degradation could be achieved.In the present study, a previously capped waste disposal site at Kollevåg (Norway) was selected to study the effects of contaminant leakage on biomarkers associated with Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) reproductive endocrinology and development. Immature cod were caged for 6 weeks at 3 locations, selected to achieve a spatial gradient of contamination, and compared to a reference station. Quantitative transcriptomic, and lipidomic analysis was used to evaluate the effects of the potential complex contaminant mixture on ovarian developmental and endocrine physiology. The number of expressed transcripts, with 0.75 log2-fold differential expression or more, varied among stations and paralleled the severity of contamination. Particularly, significant bioaccumulation of ∑PCB-7, ∑DDTs and ∑PBDEs were observed at station 1, compared to the other station, including the reference station. Respectively 1416, 698 and 719 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), were observed at stations 1, 2 and 3, compared to the reference station, with transcripts belonging to steroid hormone synthesis pathway being significantly upregulation. Transcription factors such as esr2 and ahr2 were increased at all three stations, with highest fold-change at Station 1. MetaCore pathway maps identified affected pathways that are involved in ovarian physiology, where some unique pathways were significantly affected at each station. For the lipidomics, sphingolipid metabolism was particularly affected at station 1, and these effects paralleled the high contaminant burden at this station. Overall, our findings showed a novel and direct association between contaminant burden and ovarian toxicological and endocrine physiological responses in cod caged at the capped Kollevåg waste disposal site.

Outdoor workers are at risk of prolonged and high solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure, which is known to cause skin cancer. The objectives of this study were to characterize the UVR exposure levels of outdoor workers in Alberta, Canada, and to investigate what factors may contribute to their exposure.

This study collected objective solar UVR measurements from outdoor workers primarily in Alberta during the summer of 2019. Workers were recruited via the management or health and safety teams from building trade unions and employers. Calibrated, electronic UVR dosimeters were worn by workers on their hardhats, wrists, or lapels for five working days. Data on workers' demographics, jobs, sun protection behaviors, and personal risk factors were collected using questionnaires, and meteorological data for each sampling day were noted.
