Gastrointestinal complications are not uncommon in patients of Acute Leukemia. Intussusception as a complication in leukemia, although described, is exceedingly rare. Chroman1 Also, it is usually seen after chemotherapy and not as a part of the native disease process. This case report aims to highlight such a rare association which warrants clinical and pathological attention.

A 14year old male presented with an acute abdomen. Initial routine investigations revealed a deranged blood picture. On further examination of bone marrow aspirate, biopsy and detailed immunohistochemical studies a diagnosis of B-Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL) was made. Concurrent ultrasound of the abdomen to find a cause for severe abdominal pain revealed an Ileo-colic intussusception. The patient was started on steroids; however he succumbed to his illness after two days, before surgery could be attempted.

Rare presentations of relatively common diseases are a hurdle for timely and effective medical intervention. Although a rare colead to poorer prognosis, possibility of co-existence of ALL and intussusception should be borne in mind by all treating physicians and hematopathologists for effective patient care.

Many patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) required critical care. Mid-term outcomes of the survivors need to be assessed. The objective of this single-center cohort study was to describe their physical, cognitive, psychological, and biological outcomes at 3months following intensive care unit (ICU)-discharge (M3).

All COVID-19 adults who survived an ICU stay ≥ 7days and attended the M3 consultation at our multidisciplinary follow-up clinic were involved. They benefited from a standardized assessment, addressing health-related quality of life (EQ-5D-3L), sleep disorders (PSQI), and the three principal components of post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) physical status (Barthel index, handgrip and quadriceps strength), mental health disorders (HADS and IES-R), and cognitive impairment (MoCA). Biological parameters referred to C-reactive protein and creatinine.

Among the 92 patients admitted to our ICU for COVID-19, 42 survived a prolonged ICU stay and 32 (80%) attended the M3 follow-up visit. T in the present cohort after 3 months, affecting both functional status and biological parameters. These data are an argument on the need for closed follow-up for critically ill COVID-19 survivors.

Non-canonical AUX/IAA protein, OsIAA29, and ZmMPR-1 homologues, OsMRPLs, are part of an auxin-related signalling cascade operating in the dorsal aleurone during early rice grain development. Endosperm of rice and other cereals accumulates high concentrations of the predominant in planta auxin, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) during early grain development. However, IAA signalling and function during endosperm development are poorly understood. Here, we report that OsYUC12 (an auxin biosynthesis gene) and OsIAA29 (encoding a non-canonical AUX/IAA) are both expressed exclusively in grains, reaching a maximum 5-6days after pollination. OsYUC12 expression is localised in the aleurone, sub-aleurone and embryo, whereas OsIAA29 expression is restricted to a narrow strip in the dorsal aleurone, directly under the vascular bundle. Although rice has been reported to lack endosperm transfer cells (ETCs), this region of the aleurone is enriched with sugar transporters and is likely to play a key role in apoplastic nutrient orally co-expressed with two genes (AL1 and OsPR602) previously linked to the development of dorsal aleurone or ETCs. Also up-regulated at the same time is a cluster of MYB-related genes (designated OsMRPLs) homologous to ZmMRP-1, which regulates maize ETC development. Wheat homologues of ZmMRP-1 are similarly expressed in ETCs. Although previous work has suggested that other cereals do not have orthologues of ZmMRP-1, our work suggests OsIAA29 and OsMRPLs and their homologues in other grasses are part of an auxin-regulated, conserved signalling network involved in the differentiation of cells with ETC-like function in developing cereal grains. In Uganda, 60% of HIV-affected couples are serodiscordant, many of whom want children. There is a need to assess their reproductive intentions and provide appropriate services that limit transmission risks while meeting reproductive goals. Our Choice intervention engaged male and female HIV-infected clients and their partners in safer conception counseling (SCC) or family planning based on their childbearing decision. We report findings of provider experiences and recommendations for engaging couples in SCC. The intervention was implemented in four clinics offering either SCC1, an intensive training and supervision arm, or SCC2, utilizing the Ministry of Health's standard approach. Qualitative interviews were conducted at 12 (N = 23) and 24 months (N = 25) after initiation of the intervention. Many partners attended at least some SCC sessions, although engaging male partners was more challenging. Providers reported partner involvement improved understanding and facilitated successful implementation of SCM, whereas confusion and challenges were common when the client participated alone. Providers shared successful strategies for engaging male partners.Due to wide range of secondary metabolites, lichens were used from antiquity as sources of colorants, perfumes and medicaments. This research focuses on exploring the antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of methanol, ethanol, acetone extracts and aqueous infusions of corticolous lichens sampled from Armenia. Methanol, ethanol and acetone extracts from all tested lichens were active against Gram-positive bacterial strains. The most effective solvent to retrieve antimicrobial compounds was methanol. Aqueous infusions of tested lichens didn't show any significant antibacterial and antifungal activity. The highest antimicrobial activity was observed for methanol extract of Ramalina sinensis. The minimum inhibitory concentration of methanol extract of Ramalina sinensis were 0.9-1.8 mg mL- 1. Pseudevernia furfuracea demonstrated antifungal activity (Ø 12 mm). Methanol extract of Parmelia sulcata demonstrated largest 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazil (DPPH) radical scavenging activity (71 %). The cytotoxicity was measured on human HeLa (cervical carcinoma) cell lines using microculture tetrazolium test assay. The IC50 values estimated for methanol extracts of Peltigera praetextata, Evernia prunastri, Ramalina sinensis and Ramalina farinacea species in HeLa cell line were within 1.8-2.8 mg mL- 1 and considered as non-cytotoxic. Obtained results suggest that studied lichens can be prospective in biotechnologies as alternative sources of antimicrobial and antioxidant substances.Honey bees make decisions regarding foraging and nest-site selection in groups ranging from hundreds to thousands of individuals. To effectively make these decisions, bees need to communicate within a spatially distributed group. However, the spatiotemporal dynamics of honey bee communication have been mostly overlooked in models of collective decisions, focusing primarily on mean field models of opinion dynamics. We analyze how the spatial properties of the nest or hive, and the movement of individuals with different belief states (uncommitted or committed) therein affect the rate of information transmission using spatially-extended models of collective decision-making within a hive. Honeybees waggle-dance to recruit conspecifics with an intensity that is a threshold nonlinear function of the waggler concentration. Our models range from treating the hive as a chain of discrete patches to a continuous line (long narrow hive). The combination of population-thresholded recruitment and compartmentalized populations generates tradeoffs between rapid information propagation with strong population dispersal and recruitment failures resulting from excessive population diffusion and also creates an effective colony-level signal-detection mechanism whereby recruitment to low quality objectives is blocked.Accurate calculation of the acid dissociation constant (pKa) has fundamental importance for the description of molecular systems with pharmacological activities. The search for a more appropriate procedure for its determination is always welcome and has aroused increasing interest from the scientific community. In this sense, this work presents a computational study involving the combination of ten DFT functionals (M062X, M06L, B3LYP, BLYP, PBEPBE, BP86, LC-BLYP, SPBE, CAM-B3LYP, LC-PBEPBE) and HF method, eight basis set functions (6-311G, 6-311 + G, 6-311G(d,p), 6-311 + G(d,p), 6-311+ +G(d,p), 6-311(2d,2p), 6-311+ +G(2d,2p), and aug-cc-pVDZ), and three solvation models (SMD, PCM, and CPCM) for an accurate sulfachloropyridazine (SCR) pKa determination. It was found that the smallest deviation (0.02 unit of pKa) between the current study and experimental result was achieved with the BLYP/6-311 + G(d,p)/PCM combination. Therefore, this combination was extended to calculate the pKa of six SCR similar molecules selected through the eletroshape similarity method. For all these molecules, the difference between the obtained results and experimental data ranged between 0.14 and 0.69 units of pKa. This feature suggests that the obtained combination can determine pKa with experimental precision for complexes that are formed by sulfonamide functional group (SO2NHR). Graphical Abstract A computational study involving the combination of different levels of theory, basis sets and solvation models for an accurate sulfanamide pKa determination.PD-1/PD-L1 might have a causal role in operating lung cancer risk. However, such an association has not been investigated in the general population. We assessed whether PD-L1 has an independent effect on lung cancer risk using two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) based on a proteomic genome-wide association study (3301 health participants) of European ancestry and the International Lung cancer Consortium (11,348 cases and 15,861 controls). Negative control analyses using chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)/asthma/interstitial lung disease (ILD)-related infection (~ 22,730 cases and ~ 112,908 controls) were also conducted to enhance the credibility of the selected instruments and MR-based estimates. This study found that genetically predicted PD-1/PD-L1 were not significantly associated with lung cancer after adjustment for multiplicity. However, suggestive evidence was observed for the total effect of higher PD-1 with decreased lung cancer risk and the direct effect (i.e., not mediated by PD-1 and smoking) of lower PD-L1 with decreased lung cancer risk. No association between genetically predicted PD-L1 and COPD/asthma/ILD related infection was noted. Taken together, our findings suggest that interventions decreasing PD-L1 might have a role in lowering lung cancer risk.To the better management of spring frost problem in the apricot cultivars, evaluation of biochemical changes in flower and/or flower organs during bud break could be one of the key factors. In this study, the relationship between the biochemical metabolites such as amino acids and minerals in the receptacle and pistil organs of two different apricot cultivars (frost-sensitive and frost-tolerant) and their relative effects on the frost tolerance of the cultivars and their organs were investigated during full blooming stage. In both apricot cultivars, it was found that the cell death points (CDP) of flower receptacle (- 6.3 to - 8.4 °C) were at higher temperatures than the CDP of flower pistil organs (- 13.1 to - 14.5 °C). Receptacle organs in flower, therefore, had less tolerance to spring frost damage. In addition, significant differences in mineral and amino acid contents were detected both between apricot cultivars and between the receptacle and pistil organs of the cultivars. Amino acid and mineral contents were lower both in the freezing-sensitive apricot cultivar ("Mihralibey") and the freezing-sensitive organ (receptacle) in comparison with the freezing-tolerant apricot cultivar ("Iğdır Şalak") and the freezing-tolerant organ (pistil).
