Geopolymers have high early strength, fast hardening speed and wide sources of raw materials, and have good durability properties such as high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance. On the other hand, there are abundant sources of plant or cellulose fibers, and it has the advantages of having a low cost, a light weight, strong adhesion and biodegradability. In this context, the geopolymer sector is considering cellulose fibers as a sustainable reinforcement for developing composites. Cellulosic-fiber-reinforced geopolymer composites have broad development prospects. This paper presents a review of the literature research on the durability of cellulosic-fiber-reinforced geopolymer composites in recent years. In this paper, the typical properties of cellulose fibers are summarized, and the polymerization mechanism of geopolymers is briefly discussed. The factors influencing the durability of cellulosic-fiber-reinforced geopolymer composites were summarized and analyzed, including the degradation of fibers in a geopolymer matrix, the toughness of fiber against matrix cracking, the acid resistance, and resistance to chloride ion penetration, high temperature resistance, etc. Finally, the influence of nanomaterials on the properties of geopolymer composites and the chemical modification of fibers are analyzed, and the research on cellulosic-fiber-reinforced geopolymer composites is summarized. The incidence of gastrointestinal pathologies (cancer in particular) has increased progressively, with considerable morbidity and mortality, and a high economic impact on the healthcare system. The dietary intake of natural phytochemicals with certain bioactive properties has shown therapeutic and preventive effects on these pathologies. This includes the cruciferous vegetable derivative phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC), a bioactive compound present in some vegetables, such as watercress. Notably, PEITC has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, and anticarcinogenic properties. This review summarized the current knowledge on the role of PEITC as a potential natural nutraceutical or an adjuvant against oxidative/inflammatory-related disorders in the gastrointestinal tract. We also discussed the safe and recommended dose of PEITC. In addition, we established a framework to guide the research and development of sustainable methodologies for obtaining and stabilizing this natural molecule for industrial use. With PEITC, there is great potential to develop a viable strategy for preventing cancer and other associated diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. However, this topic still needs more scientific studies to help develop new PEITC products for the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, or food industries. The impact of process conditions on the synthesis of NiMoO4 nanostructures using a solution combustion synthesis (SCS) method, in which agar powder and Ni(NO3)2 were utilized as fuel and as the oxidant, respectively, was thoroughly studied. The results show that the calcination temperature had a significant implication on the specific surface area, phase composition, particle size, band gap, and crystallite size. The influence of calcination time on the resulting physicochemical/structural/morphological properties of NiMoO4 nanostructures was found to be a major effect during the first 20 min, beyond which these properties varied to a lesser extent. The increase in the Ni/Mo atomic ratio in the oxide impacted the combustion dynamics of the system, which led to the formation of higher surface area materials, with the prevalence of the β-phase in Ni-rich samples. Likewise, the change in the pH of the precursor solution showed that the combustion reaction is more intense in the high-pH region, entailing major implications on the physicochemical properties and phase composition of the samples. The change in the fuel content showed that the presence of agar is important, as it endows the sample with a fluffy, porous texture and is also vital for the preponderance of the β-phase.Intra- and intermolecular interactions have been explored in selected N-oxide derivatives 2-(N,N-dimethylamino-N-oxymethyl)-4,6-dimethylphenyl (1) and 5,5'-dibromo-3-diethylaminomethyl-2,2'-biphenol N-oxide (2). Both compounds possess intramolecular hydrogen bonding, which is classified as moderate in 1 and strong in 2, and resonance-assisted in both cases. Density Functional Theory (DFT) in its classical formulation as well as Time-Dependent extension (TD-DFT) were employed to study proton transfer phenomena. The simulations were performed in the gas phase and with implicit and explicit solvation models. The obtained structures of the studied N-oxides were compared with experimental data available. The proton reaction path was investigated using scan with an optimization method, and water molecule reorientation in the monohydrate of 1 was found upon the proton scan progress. It was found that spontaneous proton transfer phenomenon cannot occur in the electronic ground state of the compound 1. An opposite sited states, especially when the N-oxide acceptor atom is microsolvated.Rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae L. (Coleoptera Curculionidae), is one of the most destructive stored-product pests that is resistant to a wide range of chemical insecticides. In the present study, we investigated whether a lectin extracted from Polygonum persicaria L. (PPA) can be used as a biorational agent to control such insect pests. Along with the lethal digestive assay, the sub-lethal insecticidal activities of PPA, including the effects on digestive, detoxifying, and antioxidant enzyme activities, were evaluated against S. oryzae adults. Selleckchem UMI-77 The effect of feeding a diet containing PPA and carob extract as a food attractant on the mortality of S. oryzae adults was also investigated. Feeding on the diet containing PPA resulted in a significant mortality of S. oryzae adults with a LC50 (Lethal Concentration to kill 50% of insects) of 3.68% (w/w). The activity of digestive enzymes, including α-amylase, α-glucosidase, TAG-lipase, trypsin, chymotrypsin, elastase, and carboxy- and aminopeptidase, were decreased by the sub-lethal concentration of PPA. Detoxifying and antioxidant enzymes, including esterase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione-S-transferase, ascorbate peroxidase, glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase, and malondialdehyde, were activated in adults affected by PPA. These findings indicated that PPA, in addition to causing digestive disorders, leads to oxidative stress in S. oryzae. The presence of carob extract had no effect on the PPA-induced mortality of the insect. According to the results of the present study, PPA has promising insecticidal efficiency against S. oryzae. In addition, the usage of PPA with a food attractant carob extract in bait traps can be recommended as a new biorational formulation in S. oryzae management.Functionalized magnetite nanoparticles (Fe3O4) were prepared using the coprecipitation method followed by functionalization with a multipotent antioxidant (MPAO). The MPAO was synthesized and analyzed using FTIR and NMR techniques. In this study, the functionalized nanoparticles (IONP@AO) were produced and evaluated using the FTIR, XRD, Raman, HRTEM, FESEM, VSM, and EDX techniques. The average determined particle size of IONP@AO was 10 nanometers. In addition, it demonstrated superparamagnetic properties. The magnitude of saturation magnetization value attained was 45 emu g-1. Virtual screenings of the MPAO's potential bioactivities and safety profile were performed using PASS analysis and ADMET studies before the synthesis step. For the DPPH test, IONP@AO was found to have a four-fold greater ability to scavenge free radicals than unfunctional IONP. The antimicrobial properties of IONP@AO were also demonstrated against a variety of bacteria and fungi. The interaction of developed nanoantioxiants with biomolecules makes it a broad-spectrum candidate in biomedicine and nanomedicine.High-performance porous carbons derived from tea waste were prepared by hydrothermal treatment, combined together with KOH activation. The heat-treatment-processed materials possess an abundant hierarchical structure, with a large specific surface of 2235 m2 g-1 and wetting-complemental hydrophilicity for electrolytes. In a two-electrode system, the porous carbon electrodes' built-in supercapacitor exhibited a high specific capacitance of 256 F g-1 at 0.05 A g-1, an excellent capacitance retention of 95.4% after 10,000 cycles, and a low leakage current of 0.014 mA. In our work, the collective results present that the precursor crafted from the tea waste can be a promising strategy to prepare valuable electrodes for high-performance supercapacitors, which offers a practical strategy to recycle biowastes into manufactured materials in energy storage applications. This paper demonstrates the assessment of physicochemical and thermodynamic properties of aqueous solutions of novel deep eutectic solvent (DES) built of tetrabutylammonium chloride and 3-amino-1-propanol or tetrabutylammonium bromide and 3-amino-1-propanol or 2-(methylamino)ethanol or 2-(butylamino)ethanol. Densities, speeds of sound, refractive indices, and viscosities for both pure and aqueous mixtures of DES were investigated over the entire range of compositions at atmospheric pressure and T = (293.15 ‒ 313.15) K. It was concluded that the experimental data were successfully fitted using the Jouyban-Acree model with respect to the concentration. Obtained results showed that this mathematical equation is an accurate correlation for the prediction of aqueous DES properties. Key physicochemical properties of the mixtures-such as excess molar volumes, excess isentropic compressibilities, deviations in viscosity, and deviations in refractive indices-were calculated and correlated by the Redlich-Kister equation with temperature-dependent parameters. The non-ideal behavior of the studied systems were also evaluated by using the Prigogine-Flory-Patterson theory and the results were interpreted in terms of interactions between the mixture components. In this study we aimed to investigate the effect of heat treatment on the spectral pattern of honey using near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). For the research, sunflower, bastard indigo, and acacia honeys were collected from entrusted beekeepers. The honeys were not subject to any treatment before. Samples were treated at 40 °C, 60 °C, 80 °C, and 100 °C for 60, 120, 180, and 240 min. This resulted in 17 levels, including the untreated control samples. The 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) content of the honeys was determined using the Winkler method. NIRS spectra were recorded using a handheld instrument. Data analysis was performed using ANOVA for the HMF content and multivariate analysis for the NIRS data. For the latter, PCA, PCA-LDA, and PLSR models were built (using the 1300-1600 nm spectral range) and the wavelengths presenting the greatest change induced by the perturbations of temperature and time intervals were collected systematically, based on the difference spectra and the weights of the models. The most contributing wavelengths were used to visualize the spectral pattern changes on the aquagrams in the specific water matrix coordinates. Our results showed that the heat treatment highly contributed to the formation of free or less bonded water, however, the changes in the spectral pattern highly depended on the crystallization phase and the honey type.
