About half had tried a treatment for their dry eye symptoms, with artificial tears being the most common treatment, followed by warm compresses, and both therapies were rated as reasonably effective (median 5-7/10).

Many people with dry eye symptoms are not consulting health care professionals who can confirm the diagnosis, exclude differential diagnoses, and offer a wide range of treatments targeted at the dry eye subtype.

In Australia, the provision of maternity care during the COVID-19 pandemic was significantly altered to limit transmission of the virus. Many hospitals limited face-to-face appointments to only the pregnant woman and restricted the number of support people present during labour, birth, and postnatal visits to one person. How these restrictions were experienced by partners and support persons of childbearing women are unknown.

To explore the experiences of partners and support persons of women receiving maternity care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A two-phased qualitative study including an online survey and interviews. Analysis was undertaken using content analysis.

Partners and support persons experienced a sense of 'missing out' from the pregnancy and maternity care experience because of changes in the provision of care during the pandemic. They reported feelings of isolation, psychological distress, and reduced bonding time with babies. Conflicting information and processes within and across maternity services contributed to feelings of uncertainty and a perceived reduction in the quality of care. Partners and support persons were negatively impacted by restrictions on maternity wards, however they also perceived these to be of benefit to women.

Many partners and support persons were negatively impacted by restrictions in maternity services during the pandemic; strategies to ensure their active involvement in maternity care are needed.

This study offers insights from the unique perspective of partners and support people of women receiving maternity care during the pandemic. Policies and processes that exclude partners and support persons need to be reconsidered.

The organelles have key roles in sporozoite development and infectivity but the way this is facilitated on a molecular level remains poorly understood. Recent discoveries have shed new light on these processes.Parasites of the genus Plasmodium cause human and animal malaria, leading to significant health and economic impacts. A key aspect of the complex life cycle of Plasmodium parasites is the invasion of the parasite into its host cell, which is mediated by secretory organelles. The largest of these organelles, the rhoptry, undergoes rapid and profound physiological changes when it secretes its contents during merozoite and sporozoite invasion of the host erythrocyte and hepatocyte, respectively. Here we discuss recent advancements in our understanding of the dynamic rhoptry biology during the parasite's invasive stages, with a focus on the roles of cytosolically exposed rhoptry-interacting proteins (C-RIPs). We explore potential similarities between the molecular mechanisms driving merozoite and sporozoite rhoptry function.

Endothelial glycocalyx is a luminal layer which can be damaged by inflammatory agents or pathogens. The endothelial glycocalyx damage is thought to have a role in the formation of renal scars in children who have febrile urinary tract infection and vesicoureteral reflux. This study aimed to compare the blood levels of endothelial glycocalyx components heparan sulfate and Syndecan-1 in children with and without renal scarring due to vesicoureteral reflux-associated febrile urinary tract infection.

Data of the patients diagnosed with vesicoureteral reflux without renal scarring (Group1), patients with vesicoureteral reflux and renal scarring (Group2), and completely healthy children (Group3) were retrospectively reviewed. Blood levels of heparan sulfate and Syndecan-1 were measured and the results were compared.

The entire cohort consisted of 90patients; there were 30patients in each group. Mean patient age was 49.7±18.0months. Dihydromyricetin GABA Receptor agonist Mean serum heparan sulfate (42.90±18.90ng/mL) and Syndecan-1 (37.59±13.77ng/mL) levels of Group2 were significantly higher than those of other groups. The cut-off value for heparan sulfate was 35.17ng/mL, with a 63% sensitivity and 86% specificity. The cut-off value for Syndecan-1 was 29.99ng/mL with a 70% sensitivity and 80% specificity.

Our findings indicate that blood levels of heparan sulfate and Syndecan-1 could be related with renal scarring in patients with vesicoureteral reflux, especially in the setting of febrile urinary tract infection. However, due to their low sensitivity, these biomarkers should be used along with clinical data.

To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics, treatments, and prognosis of patients with renal primitive neuroectodermal ectodermal tumors (rPNETs) with inferior vena cava (IVC) tumor thrombus.

We retrospectively reviewed 6 patients with rPNETs and IVC tumor thrombus between January 2005 and December 2019, and identified 39 published cases through a literature review. The clinicopathological characteristics, treatments, and survival data were analyzed.

The median patient age patients was 26 years, and the male to female ratio was approximately 11. The average tumor diameter was 12.5 cm. Seventeen patients (37.8%) showed metastasis at diagnosis. Forty-three cases (95.6%) were managed with surgical resection, and 35 (77.8%) received adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery. Follow-up data were available for 41 patients (median follow-up, 10 months; range, 4.5-13.0). The median overall survival (OS) and median progression-free survival (PFS) were both 30.0 months. Patients who received adjuvant chemotherapy had better PFS than those who underwent surgery only (30.
