Several studies have analyzed the functional recovery after plate fixation of a displaced fracture of the middle third of the clavicle beyond the 6th week. The aim of this study was to assess the early functional recovery in the first 6 weeks, which has not yet been investigated.
Functional recovery in the first 6 weeks after surgical treatment is better than in the first 6 weeks of functional (non-operative) treatment.
Any patient who had a closed displaced fracture of the middle third of the clavicle - Edinburgh types 2B1 or 2B2 - was informed of the treatment options within a week of their fracture surgical fixation by anatomic plate or functional treatment. A QuickDASH score was filled out weekly for 6 weeks and at 3 and 6 months. Similarly, the Constant score was determined at 3 and 6 weeks and at 3 and 6 months. Any complications were documented and time to union was determined.
Sixty-five fractures in 65 patients were followed for 6 months. Twenty-six patients chose surgical treatment (S) and 3functional recovery is better in the first 6 weeks.

Posterior segment examination revealed a total retinal detachment and abnormal, tortuous retinal vessels in the left eye. No visible mass, vitreous seeding, or hemorrhage were observed. The piscidin family is a group of fish-derived antimicrobial peptides that have potent antimicrobial activity and participate in the innate immune response. Here we describe a novel piscidin-like peptide called cerocin from the black sea bass (Centropristis striata), which is a highly valued marine teleost in both commercial and recreational fisheries worldwide. The full-length cDNA of cerocin consists of 567 base pairs, including 5' and 3' untranslated regions of 61 and 209 base pairs, respectively. The active peptide consists of 20 amino acids that form an amphipathic α-helix structure. Cerocin showed highest identity with the cardinalfish (Ostorhinchus fasciatus) piscidin (52%). Phylogenetic tree demonstrated that the cerocin clustered with dicentracin of Liparis tanakae and Perca flavescens. It showed tissue-specific distribution patterns and was predominantly expressed in the gill. After challenge with Vibrio harveyi, C. striata showed time- and tissue-dependent expression of the cerocin gene. Finally, a cerocin peptide was synthesized, and it exerted broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against a number of bacterial strains, especially Gram-positive pathogens. Analysis of the killing kinetics revealed that the cerocin peptide had a rapid bactericidal effect on the bacteria. Collectively, these data suggest that the piscidin-like cerocin might play a vital role in the immune response of C. striata, and further studies of this gene may provide insight into the innate immune system of this species.Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is a freshwater fish, which is extensively cultivated worldwide and constitutes one of the model species for the study of fish immunology. Monoclonal antibodies are very advantageous molecular tools for studying teleost immune system. Specifically, monoclonal antibodies that react with immunoglobulins are used successfully in the study of the humoral immune response of several fish species. In the present study, we produced and characterized a monoclonal antibody against tilapia IgM heavy chain using a peptide-based strategy. The peptide sequence was selected from the surface-exposed region between CH3-CH4 domains. The specificity of the polyclonal serum and the hybridoma culture supernatant obtained by immunization with the peptide conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin were evaluated by western blotting, both showing reactivity against tilapia serum IgM. The purified mAb was able to recognize secreted IgM by western blotting and ELISA and membrane IgM by flow cytometry.
