KGaA, Weinheim.In this paper, a new type of supramolecular architecture, protein Pascal triangle has been constructed by using the inducing ligand strategy that we developed for protein assembly previously. Although mathematical studies on this famous geometry has a long history, no work on such Pascal triangle fabricated from native proteins appeared so far due to their structural complexity. In this work, by carefully tuning the specific interactions between the native protein building block WGA and the inducing ligand R-SL, Pascal-triangle 2D lattice with three types of triangular voids has been assembled. Moreover, 3D crystal structure was obtained based on the 2D Pascal triangles. The distinctive carbohydrate binding sites of WGA and intralayer & interlayer dimerization of RhB was the key to make such nanofabrication in solution possible. KGaA, Weinheim.AIM This study aimed to investigate the current progression status from screening phase to further investigation phase in the Japanese school urine mass screening (SUS) project. METHODS This retrospective cohort study on the SUS project across the Shiga Prefecture during 2012 to 2017 analysed data from school life instruction sheets, which are principal documents in the SUS project, regarding urinalysis, attendance at follow-up and diagnoses. RESULTS Between the years 2012 to 2017, a median of 107 out of 83 749 elementary school students (aged 6-11 years) and 215 out of 42 870 junior high students (aged 12-14 years) had urine abnormalities identified for the first time in the SUS project. Among those with urine abnormalities, a mean of 4.2% of elementary school and 1.8% of junior high school students, respectively, were diagnosed with suspected glomerulonephritis for the first time. Overall, 5.9% (95% confidence interval [CI] 4.1, 7.7) and 23.6% (95% CI 21.3, 25.9) of proteinuria-positive elementary and junior high school students, respectively, did not undergo further investigations. The probability of a student undergoing further investigations was not affected by the local availability of medical care benefits. CONCLUSION In the current SUS project, screening frequently does not lead to further investigation, especially among junior high school students. Dibutyryl-cAMP To maintain the integrity of the SUS project and to prevent the progression of renal disease in young students, efforts including elucidation of barriers to further investigations should be made to reduce the proportions of students not undergoing further investigations for abnormal urinalysis findings. © 2020 Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology.AIMS "CLOSE"-guided pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is based on contiguous (≤6 mm) and optimized radiofrequency (RF) ablation lesions (ablation index [AI] ≥ 400 posteriorly and ≥ 550 anteriorly]. However, the optimal RF power to reach the desired AI is unknown. Therefore we evaluated the efficiency of an ablation strategy using higher power (40 W) during a first "CLOSE"-guided PVI. METHODS Eighty consecutive patients undergoing "CLOSE"-guided PVI for symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation were ablated with 40 W (group A). Results were compared with 105 consecutive patients enrolled in the "CLOSE to CURE"-study and were ablated using the same protocol with 35 W (group B). RESULTS In group A, ablation was associated with shorter ablation procedure time (91 vs 111 minutes; P  .733) were similar in both groups (groups A and B, respectively). No complications occurred. In group A, a gastroscopy-performed in five patients with esophageal temperature rise more than 42°C-did not reveal any esophageal lesion. Postprocedural recurrence of atrial tachyarrhythmia at 1 year was not significantly different between both groups. CONCLUSIONS Using the "CLOSE"-protocol, increased power increases the efficiency of PVI without compromising patients' safety. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.OBJECTIVES Myofibroblasts constitute a specific cell phenotype involved in connective tissue healing. Diabetes alters the wound healing response. However, it is not clear whether diabetes modifies the involvement of myofibroblasts in periodontal wounds. MATERIAL AND METHODS Type I diabetes was induced in rats through streptozotocin injection and periodontal wounds were performed. Wound healing was evaluated histologically at 2, 5, 7 and 15 days by measuring epithelial migration, neutrophil infiltration, collagen and biofilm formation. Distribution of myofibroblasts was evaluated through immunofluorescence for α-Smooth Muscle Actin. Data analyses were performed using the Shapiro-Wilk, ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis tests. RESULTS Diabetic wounds were characterized by delayed epithelial closure, increased neutrophil infiltration, biofilm formation and reduced collagen formation. Quantification of the myofibroblasts showed a significant reduction at 5 and 7 days in wounds of diabetic rats and an increase at 15 days when compared to wounds of non-diabetic rats.
