Copyright © 2020 Ke Li et al.Aims Previous evidence has demonstrated an increased fracture risk among the population with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study investigated the prevalence of bone fractures in elderly subjects (with and without type 2 diabetes) and identified any fracture risk factors, especially the risk factors for common known fractures in particular diabetic populations. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted with community-dwelling people over 60 years old in nine communities from the city of Shenyang, which is the capital of Northeast China's Liaoning Province. A total of 3430 elderly adults (2201 females, mean ± standard deviation age 68.16 ± 6.1 years; 1229 males, 69.16 ± 6.7 years) were included. Our study measured the heel bone mineral density (BMD) and used the timed "up and go" (TUG) test and other indicators. In addition, we performed logistic regression analysis to explore the risk factors for fractures in the general population and the diabetic population and to analyze the differences. Resus, while no associations were found in the T2DM population. Patients with T2DM have a higher risk for fractures even when they have sufficient BMD and a short TUG time. Copyright © 2020 Yan Guo et al.A lot of previous studies have recently reported that the gut microbiota influences the development of colorectal cancer (CRC) in Western countries, but the role of the gut microbiota in Chinese population must be investigated fully. The goal of this study was to determine the role of the gut microbiome in the initiation and development of CRC. We collected fecal samples of 206 Chinese individuals 59 with polyp (group P), 54 with adenoma (group A), 51 with colorectal cancer (group CC), and 42 healthy controls (group HC).16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) was used to compare the microbiota community structures among healthy controls, patients with polyp, and those with adenoma or colorectal cancer. Our study proved that intestinal flora, as a specific indicator, showed significant differences in its diversity and composition. Sobs, Chao, and Ace indexes of group CC were significantly lower than those of the healthy control group (CC group Sobs, Chao, and Ace indexes were 217.3 ± 69, 4265.1 ± 80.7, and 268.6 ± 78.1, respriched in the healthy individuals; on the phylum level, the abundance of Bacteroidetes (52.14%-53.92%-52.46%-47.06%) and Firmicutes (35.88%-29.73%-24.27%-25.36%) is decreasing with the development of health-polyp-adenomas-CRC, and the abundance of Proteobacteria (9.33%-12.31%-16.51%-22.37%) is increasing. PCA and PCOA analysis showed there was no significant (P less then 0.05) difference in species similarity between precancerous and carcinogenic states. However, the composition of the microflora in patients with precancerous lesions (including patients with adenoma and polyp) was proved to have no significant disparity (P less then 0.05). Our study provides insights into new angles to dig out potential biomarkers in diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer and to provide scientific advice for a healthy lifestyle for the sake of gut microbiota. The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays an important role in the progress of the tumor occurrence, development, and prognosis of cervical cancer. Macrophages are the main contributor to the TME, which is called tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). The phenotype of TAMs is related to the metabolism and secretory factors release, which facilitate the angiogenesis and lymphatic duct formation during cervical cancer metastasis, thus affecting the prognosis of cervical cancer. This review intends to discuss the recent research progress on the relationship between TAMs and cervical cancer, which is helpful to elucidate the mechanism of TAMs in cervical cancer. The limited understanding of genomic alterations in melanomas in China impedes the diagnosis and therapeutic strategy selection. We conducted comprehensive genomic profiling of melanomas from 39 primary and metastatic formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples from 27 patients in China based on an NGS panel of 223 genes. No significant difference in gene alterations was found between primary and metastasis melanomas. The status of germline mutation, CNV, and somatic mutation in our cohort was quite different from that reported in Western populations. We further delineated the mutation patterns of 4 molecular subgroups (BRAF, RAS, NF1, and Triple-WT) of melanoma in our cohort. BRAF mutations were more frequently identified in melanomas without chromic sun-induced damage (non-CSD), while RAS mutations were more likely observed in acral melanomas. NF1 and Triple-WT subgroups were unbiased between melanomas arising in non-CSD and acral skin. BRAF, RAS, and NF1 mutations were significantly associated with lymph node metastasis or presence of ulceration, implying that these cancer driver genes were independent prognostic factors. In summary, our results suggest that mutational profiles of malignant melanomas in China are significantly different from Western countries, and both gene mutation and amplification play an important role in the development and progression of melanomas. Flexibility and diversity of transcriptome and proteome can be significantly increased through alternative splicing of genes. In the present study, transcriptome data of peripheral immune organs including spleen and inguinal lymph nodes (ILN) were used to identify AS difference between PRRSV-resistant Tongcheng (TC) pigs and PRRSV-susceptible Large White (LW) pigs artificially infected with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) in vivo. The results showed that PRRSV infection induced global alternative splicing events (ASEs) with different modes. Among them, 373 genes and 595 genes in the spleen and ILN of TC pigs, while 458 genes and 560 genes in the spleen and ILN of LW pigs had significantly differential ASEs. Alternative splicing was subject to tissue-specific and lineage-specific regulation in response to PRRSV infection. Enriched GO terms and pathways showed that genes with differential ASEs played important roles in transcriptional regulation, immune response, metabolism, and apoptosis.
