Both of these regions integrate inputs from the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and are involved in decision-making and perception of the emotional states of self and others. Familial dysautonomia (FD) is an orphan disorder characterized by autonomic dysfunction and behavioral abnormalities including repetitive behavior and emotional rigidity, which are also seen in autism spectrum disorder. To understand a possible link between the ANS and the cortical regions implicated in emotion regulation we studied VENs and fork cells in an autonomic disorder. We determined the densities of VENs, fork cells, and pyramidal neurons and the ratio of VENs and fork cells to pyramidal neurons in ACC and FI in 4 FD patient and 6 matched control brains using a stereologic approach. We identified alterations in densities of VENs and pyramidal neurons and their distributions in the ACC and FI in FD brains. These data suggest that alterations in migration and numbers of VENs may be involved in FD pathophysiology thereby supporting the notion of a functional link between VENs, the ANS and the peripheral nervous system in general.In Sweden, a large family with a point mutation in the nerve growth factor-beta gene has previously been identified. The carriers of this mutation have reduced small-fibre density and selective deficits in deep pain and temperature modalities. The clinical findings in this population are described as hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type V. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the prevalence of carpal tunnel syndrome in hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type V based on clinical examinations and electrophysiological measurements. Furthermore, the cross-sectional area of the median nerve at the carpal tunnel inlet was measured with ultrasonography. Out of 52 known individuals heterozygous for the nerve growth factor-beta mutation in Sweden, 23 participated in the current study (12 males, 11 females; mean age 55 years; range 25-86 years). All participants answered a health questionnaire and underwent clinical examination followed by median nerve conduction study in a case-control design, and measurement of the nerve cross-sectional area with ultrasonography. The diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome was made based on consensus criteria using patient history and nerve conduction study. The prevalence of carpal tunnel syndrome in the hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy group was 35% or 52% depending on whether those individuals who had classic symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome but negative nerve conduction studies were included or not. Those who had a high likelihood of carpal tunnel syndrome based on classic/probable patient history with positive nerve conduction study had a significantly larger median nerve cross-sectional area than those who had an unlikely patient history with negative nerve conduction study. Asymptomatic carriers were positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) without developing symptoms, which might be a potential source of infection outbreak. Here, we aim to clarify the epidemiologic and influencing factors of asymptomatic carriers in the general population.
In our hospital, all hospital staff have received throat swab RT-PCR test, plasma COVID-19 IgM/IgG antibodies test and chest CT examination. We analyzed the correlation between infection rates and gender, age, job position, work place and COVID-19 knowledge training of the staff. After that, all asymptomatic staff were re-examined weekly for 3 weeks.
A total of 3764 hospital staff were included in this single-center cross-sectional study. Among them, 126 hospital staff had abnormal findings, and the proportion of asymptomatic infection accounted for 0.76% (28/3674). There were 26 staff with IgM+, 73 with IgG+, and 40 with ground glass shadow of chest CT. Of all staff with abnormal findings, the older the work, institutions should conduct COVID-19 prevention training for staff and screening for asymptomatic patients, and take quarantine measures as soon as possible in areas with high density of population.

However, choosing an appropriate material to enhance the catalytic activity and stability is a major challenge in the field of catalysis. In this article, we reported vanadium phosphorus oxide (VPO)/β-SiC as a stable composite material with good catalytic activity. VPO/β-SiC composite materials with different compositions were fabricated by the impregnation technique to investigate the catalytic activity and stability of these materials in liquid-phase reactions. The physiochemical characteristics of the prepared catalysts were analyzed by several spectroscopic methods. The catalytic activities of VPO/β-SiC composites were studied in a solvent-free oxidation of methanol using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as an oxidant. The reaction conditions were optimized by changing various reaction parameters. Under optimized reaction conditions, the 10 wt % VPO/β-SiC composite showed 100% conversion with 89.8% selectivity to formaldehyde.
