We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the effect of resistance training (RT) with and without caloric restriction (CR) on visceral fat (VF). PubMed and Scopus were searched to identify original articles published through December 2020. Standardized mean differences and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were determined, and separate analyses were conducted for RT versus control, and RT plus CR versus CR only. Thirty-four studies including 38 intervention arms and involving 2285 were included in the meta-analysis. RT effectively reduced VF [-24 (95% CI -0.34 to -0.13), p  less then  0.001; I2 = 4.17%, p = 0.40; 24 intervention arms] when compared with control. Based on subgroup analyses, reduction in VF was significant for individual with (p = 0.04) and without (p  less then  0.001) obesity as well as across medium-term (p = 0.001) and long-term (p = 0.002) interventions. Reduction in VF was significant for both middle-age (p = 0.03) and elderly (p = 0.001) adults but was not significant for pediatric (p = 0.08) participants. However, RT plus CR did not indicate superiority effect on VF [0.23 95% CI -0.04 to 0.51, p = 0.09; I2 = 58.76%, p = 0.003; 14 intervention arms] when compared with CR only. Our results confirm that RT may be effective for reducing VF, but adding RT with CR was not associated with a greater effect for reducing VF.In this article, we analyze several works of art which portray individuals with short stature ("dwarfism"). We have focused on eight individuals who we believe have short stature due to growth hormone deficiency (GHD) or closely related disorders, rather than skeletal dysplasia. We discuss them individually, suggest the potential diagnosis, review the characteristics of their life and personal history, and briefly outline the artistic framework in which these works of art were created. Some chickpea components have shown, in preclinical and clinical studies, several health benefits, including antioxidant capacity, and antifungal, antibacterial, analgesic, anticancer, antiinflammatory, and hypocholesterolemic properties, as well as angiotensin I-converting enzyme inhibition. In the United States, chickpea is consumed mostly in the form of hummus. However, the development of new products with value-added bioactivity is creating new opportunities for research and food applications. Information about bioactive compounds and functional properties of chickpea ingredients in the development of new products is needed. The objective of this review was to summarize available scientific information, from the last 15 years, on chickpea production, consumption trends, applications in the food industry in the elaboration of plant-based snacks, and on its bioactive compounds related to type 2 diabetes (T2D). Areas of opportunity for future research and new applications of specific bioactive compounds as novel food ingredients are highlighted. Research is key to overcome the main processing obstacles and sensory challenges for the application of chickpea as ingredient in snack preparations. The use of chickpea bioactive compounds as ingredient in food products is also a promising area for accessibility of their health benefits, such as the management of T2D.

The purpose of this data visualization study was to identify patterns in patient-generated health data (PGHD) of women with and without Circulation signs or symptoms. Specific aims were to (a) visualize and interpret relationships among strengths, challenges, and needs of women with and without Circulation signs or symptoms; (b) generate hypotheses based on these patterns; and (c) test hypotheses generated in Aim 2.

The design of this visualization study was retrospective, observational, case controlled, and exploratory.

We used existing de-identified PGHD from a mobile health application, MyStrengths+MyHealth (N = 383). From the data, women identified with Circulation signs or symptoms (n = 80) were matched to an equal number of women without Circulation signs or symptoms.
