Diablo 4 Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items allow players to raise the level of equippable items such as weapons or armor, as well as trinkets to a certain level. You can upgrade items at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.

The exception is glyphs, which can be salvaged using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Based on the type of item, upgrading an item can cost Dilithium or gold. A lot of upgrades require Flightstones or crests. The amount of crests or Flightstones required to upgrade an item is contingent on the level of the gear and a maximum upgrade level is established by Blizzard. Upgrades to the highest upgrade level can be expensive especially when you're upgrading gear for PvE.

Item upgrades can also change a weapon's ammunition type or size of the damage die, alter its operative or unwieldy specific weapon property, or alter the requirements for hand use. item upgrades can even alter a weapon's appearance.





While boosting stats is the primary purpose of upgrades to items but you should take into consideration the cost of upgrading an item prior to making the decision. Spend your gold on rare items, and not on items of the common or magic level. These aren't worth upgrading, and rare gear will soon surpass them.

Ask your guild members to give their opinion if you are unsure whether an upgrade is worthwhile. It's possible to find better upgrades at lower cost.
