Few Autism Peer Interaction Observation Scale social-communicative categories significantly correlated with the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd ed. Findings highlight the Autism Peer Interaction Observation Scale as differentiating the two preschooler groups and providing additional knowledge about socially communicative peer interaction in natural settings. AF increases not only the risk of ischemic stroke but also of dementia, even in stroke-free patients. In this review, we address recent advances in the heart-brain interaction with focus on AF. Issues discussed are (1) the timing of direct oral anticoagulants start following an ischemic stroke; (2) the comparison of direct oral anticoagulants versus vitamin K antagonists in early secondary stroke prevention; (3) harms of bridging with heparin before direct oral anticoagulants; (4) importance of appropriate direct oral anticoagulants dosing; (5) screening for AF in high-risk populations, including the role of wearables; (6) left atrial appendage occlusion as an alternative to oral anticoagulation; (7) the role of early rhythm-control therapy; (8) effect of lifestyle interventions on AF; (9) AF as a risk factor for dementia. An interdisciplinary approach seems appropriate to address the complex challenges posed by AF.[Figure see text].
It is unknown when to start anticoagulation after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) from atrial fibrillation (AF). Early anticoagulation may prevent recurrent infarctions but may provoke hemorrhagic transformation as AF strokes are typically larger and hemorrhagic transformation-prone. Later anticoagulation may prevent hemorrhagic transformation but increases risk of secondary stroke in this time frame. Our aim was to compare early anticoagulation with apixaban in AF patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) versus warfarin administration at later intervals.
AREST (Apixaban for Early Prevention of Recurrent Embolic Stroke and Hemorrhagic Transformation) was an open-label, randomized controlled trial comparing the safety of early use of apixaban at day 0 to 3 for TIA, day 3 to 5 for small-sized AIS (<1.5 cm), and day 7 to 9 for medium-sized AIS (≥1.5 cm, excluding full cortical territory), to warfarin, in a 11 ratio at 1 week post-TIA, or 2 weeks post-AIS.

Failure of early neurological improvement (fENI) despite successful mechanical thrombectomy in the anterior circulation is a clinically frequent occurrence. Purpose of this analysis was to define independent clinical, radiological, laboratory, or procedural predictors for fENI.
Retrospective single-center analysis of patients treated for acute ischemic stroke in the anterior circulation ensuing successful mechanical thrombectomy between January 2014 and April 2019. Patients were compared according to fENI (equal or higher National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) and ENI (lower National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale at discharge). Thirty-eight variables were examined in multivariable analysis for association with fENI.
Five hundred forty-nine out of 1146 patients experienced successful recanalization (modified Treatment in Cerebral Ischemia 2c-3). Ruxotemitide purchase fENI occurred in 115/549 (20.9%) patients. Independent predictors of fENI were premorbid modified Rankin Scale (odds ratio [OR] per point [IC], 1.21 [1.ge renal failure, high glucose level on admission, absence of bridging IV lysis, general anesthesia, and a longer therapy interval are presumably independent predictors for fENI in patients with successful mechanical thrombectomy.

In France, the entire population was put under a total lockdown from March 17 to May 11, 2020 during the peak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Whether the lockdown had consequences on the management of medical emergencies such as stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) has yet to be fully evaluated. This article describes hospitalization rates for acute stroke in 2 French regions that experienced contrasting rates of COVID-19 infection, before, during, and after the nationwide lockdown (January to June 2020).
All patients admitted for acute stroke/TIA into all public and private hospitals of the 2 study regions were included. Data were retrieved from the National Hospitalization Database (PMSI). In the most affected region (Grand-Est), the hospitalization rates observed in April 2020 were compared with the rates in the same period in the least affected region (Occitanie) and in the 3 prior years (2017-2019).
There was a significant decline in hospitalization rates for stroke/TIA wn stroke/TIA hospitalizations and a fast recovery after the end of the French lockdown in the most affected region, while the least affected region saw a nonsignificant drop in stroke/TIA hospitalizations and a slow recovery. These results and recommendations could be used by the health authorities to prepare for future challenges.
