Silencing the LsMYB15 gene in leaf lettuce resulted in early bolting, and exogenous melatonin delayed early bolting in leaf lettuce at high temperatures. Our study provides valuable data for future studies of leaf lettuce quality.Leaf rust and stripe rust are important wheat diseases worldwide causing significant losses where susceptible varieties are grown. Resistant cultivars offer long-term control and reduce the use of hazardous chemicals, which can be detrimental to both human health and the environment. Land races have been a valuable resource for mining new genes for various abiotic and biotic stresses including wheat rusts. Afghan wheat landrace "KU3067" displayed high seedling infection type (IT) for leaf rust and low IT for stripe rust; however, it displayed high levels of field resistance for both rusts when tested for multiple seasons against the Mexican rust isolates. This study focused on identifying loci-conferring seedling resistance to stripe rust, and also loci-conferring adult plant resistance (APR) against the Mexican races of leaf rust and stripe rust. A backcrossed inbred line (BIL) population advanced to the BC1F5 generation derived from the cross of KU3067 and Apav (triple rust susceptible line) was used for boenotypic variance explained (PVE) 12.9-20.5 and 5.4-12.5%, and QLr.cim-6BL are likely to be new. These QTL and their closely linked markers will be useful for fine mapping and marker-assisted selection (MAS) in breeding for durable resistance to multiple rust diseases.During orchid seed culture, seeds germinate as protocorms, and protocorms normally develop into plant with leaves and roots. Orchids require many years of vegetative development for flowering. However, under a certain combination of growth cultures, we observed that protocorms can directly flower without leaves and roots. Taurochenodeoxycholic acid nmr Therefore, we performed comparative transcriptome analysis to identify the different transcriptional regulators of two types of protocorms of Cymbidium ensifolium, Cymbidium sinense, and Cymbidium goeringii. Zinc finger, MYB, AP2, and bHLH were the most abundant transcription factor (TF) families in the transcriptome. Weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) was performed to identify hub genes related to leaf and flower development. The key hubs included SPL6, SVP, SEP2, KNOX1, AP2, OFP1, COL12, MYB13, MYB36, MYB59, bHLH086, and ARF7. The hub genes were further validated through statistical tools to propose the roles of key TFs. Therefore, this study initiates to answer that why there is no leaf initiation and root development and how can protocorm bypass the vegetative phase to flower? The outcomes can direct future research on short-span flowering in orchids through protocorms.One fundamental component of Integrated pest management (IPM) is field monitoring and growers use information gathered from scouting to make an appropriate control tactics. Whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) and thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis) are two most prominent pests in greenhouses of northern China. Traditionally, growers estimate the population of these pests by counting insects caught on sticky traps, which is not only a challenging task but also an extremely time-consuming one. To alleviate this situation, this study proposed an automated detection approach to meet the need for continuous monitoring of pests in greenhouse conditions. Candidate targets were firstly located using a spectral residual model and then different color features were extracted. Ultimately, Whitefly and thrips were identified using a support vector machine classifier with an accuracy of 93.9 and 89.9%, a true positive rate of 93.1 and 80.1%, and a false positive rate of 9.9 and 12.3%, respectively. Identification performance was further tested via comparison between manual and automatic counting with a coefficient of determination, R 2, of 0.9785 and 0.9582. The results show that the proposed method can provide a comparable performance with previous handcrafted feature-based methods, furthermore, it does not require the support of high-performance hardware compare with deep learning-based method. This study demonstrates the potential of developing a vision-based identification system to facilitate rapid gathering of information pertaining to numbers of small-sized pests in greenhouse agriculture and make a reliable estimation of overall population density.The rapid development of high-throughput phenotypic detection techniques makes it possible to obtain a large number of crop phenotypic information quickly, efficiently, and accurately. Among them, image-based phenotypic acquisition method has been widely used in crop phenotypic identification and characteristic research due to its characteristics of automation, non-invasive, non-destructive and high throughput. In this study, we proposed a method to define and analyze the traits related to leaf sheaths including morphology-related, color-related and biomass-related traits at V6 stage. Next, we analyzed the phenotypic variation of leaf sheaths of 418 maize inbred lines based on 87 leaf sheath-related phenotypic traits. In order to further analyze the mechanism of leaf sheath phenotype formation, 25 key traits (2 biomass-related, 19 morphology-related and 4 color-related traits) with heritability greater than 0.3 were analyzed by genome-wide association studies (GWAS). And 1816 candidate genes of 17 whole plant leaf sheath traits and 1,297 candidate genes of 8 sixth leaf sheath traits were obtained, respectively. Among them, 46 genes with clear functional descriptions were annotated by single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) that both Top1 and multi-method validated. Functional enrichment analysis results showed that candidate genes of leaf sheath traits were enriched into multiple pathways related to cellular component assembly and organization, cell proliferation and epidermal cell differentiation, and response to hunger, nutrition and extracellular stimulation. The results presented here are helpful to further understand phenotypic traits of maize leaf sheath and provide a reference for revealing the genetic mechanism of maize leaf sheath phenotype formation.

Ultrasonography can be used to quantitatively assess anterior humeral head translation (AHHT) at different degrees of shoulder abduction. Risk factors for recurrent shoulder instability have been identified.

It was hypothesized that the number of dislocations or glenoid or humeral bone loss would be associated with more AHHT as measured using ultrasound.

Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3.

A total of 39 patients who underwent surgery for anterior shoulder instability were prospectively studied. Ultrasound assessment of AHHT was performed immediately after general anesthesia was induced. The upper arm was placed at 0°, 45°, and 90° of abduction, and a 40-N anterior force was applied to the proximal third of the arm. The distance from the posterior edge of the glenoid to that of the humeral head was measured at each abduction angle using ultrasound with and without a 40-N anterior force, and the AHHT was calculated. The differences in translation at each shoulder angle were compared. Additionalor glenohumeral laxity was greater in female than male patients. Glenoid or humeral bone loss did not correlate with AHHT, thereby clarifying that bone loss has no direct effect on measurements of capsular laxity in neutral rotation.

A steeper posterior tibial slope (PTS) is an important risk factor for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reinjury. The PTS may affect lower extremity biomechanics under competition-like conditions for athletes with a reconstructed ACL.

It was hypothesized that the PTS would be associated with lower extremity biomechanics, which may increase ACL strain.

Descriptive laboratory study.

Included were 10 athletes (mean age, 20.9 ± 1.8 years) who had undergone ACL reconstruction. The authors recorded the 3-dimensional lower extremity biomechanics while participants performed a single-leg drop jump with the Stroop task (dual task). Kinematic and kinetic data were analyzed and compared between the involved and contralateral limbs. The medial and lateral PTSs were measured using magnetic resonance imaging scans of the involved knee. The correlation between the biomechanical data and the PTS in each knee was evaluated.

The lateral PTS was significantly correlated with the maximum hip adduction moment (

= 0.64;

< .05) and maximum internal tibial rotation angle (

= 0.71;

< .05) in the involved limb. There were no differences in kinematic and kinetic data between the involved and contralateral limbs.

In athletes after ACL reconstruction, the lateral PTS was directly associated with the maximum internal tibial rotation angle during single-leg drop landing with a cognitive task.

The findings in this study indicate that a steeper lateral PTS may cause internal rotation of the tibia during landing, which may be associated with reinjury in athletes with a reconstructed ACL.

Arthroscopic treatment for labral tears includes debridement and repair. Long-term studies have failed to demonstrate a difference between these treatments in terms of conversion to total hip arthroplasty (THA).

To investigate 2 different labral treatments, debridement and repair, using an adjusted analysis to evaluate long-term conversion to THA.

Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.

This was a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent hip arthroscopy by a single surgeon between April 2007 and October 2014. Postoperative follow-up information included conversion to THA, patient satisfaction, and patient-reported outcome measures (modified Harris Hip Score; Hip Outcome Score, Activities of Daily Living and Sports Specific subscales; International Hip Outcome Tool; Nonarthritic Hip Score; and Lower Extremity Functional Scale).

Of the 204 hips included in the study, 99 (48.5%) underwent labral repair, and 105 (51.5%) underwent debridement. In total, 28 (13.7%) of the 204 patients underwent conversion to THA within 10 years after hip arthroscopy (labral repair 5 [5.
