These findings suggest that an instruction to actively empathize and, surprisingly, a cognitive load can both increase empathy, but not for the same individuals. An instruction to actively empathize seems to increase empathy for individuals with good empathic dispositions, while a cognitive load enhances empathy in people for which empathic propensity is sub-optimal.Given incarcerated women's frequent transitions between jail and community, it is important to seize opportunities to provide comprehensive health care. A potential time to provide care might be when getting tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Our objective was to determine the proportion of women receiving STI testing and correlates, following jail release. This secondary analysis was of one-year follow-up data from women who participated in a jail-based cervical health literacy intervention in three Kansas City jails from 2014 to 2016. Most (82%) completed the survey in the community. The analysis included 133 women. Mean age 35 years (19-58 years). Sixty-two percent obtained STI testing within one-year post-intervention. Using logistic regression this was associated with younger age (odds ratio [OR] = 0.87; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.80, 0.95), receiving high school education (OR = 4.33; 95% CI 1.00, 18.74), having insurance (OR = 4.32; 95% CI 1.25, 14.89), no illicit drug use (OR = 0.09; 95% CI 0.01, 0.81), and no drinking problem (OR = 0.04; 95% CI 0.00, 0.45). In this study, many women sought STI testing following jail release. Clinicians/public health practitioners may find it useful to engage these high-risk women in broader women's health services seeking STI testing. We report an unusual case of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection initially presenting with hypothermia and bradycardia associated with an HIV encephalitis. Searches reveal only five reported cases of spontaneous episodic hypothermia in the context of HIV infection. In our case, magnetic resonance imaging revealed the presence of a persistent cavum septum pellucidum (CSP), an anatomical and functional neuro-developmental abnormality, as well as changes compatible with an HIV encephalitis. Episodic hypothermia can occur in association with agenesis of the corpus callosum, known as Shapiro's syndrome, and the presence of a persistent CSP in our case suggests it may have contributed to the clinical presentation. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has overwhelmed many health systems globally. Innovative initiatives are needed to combat the pandemic and scaleup response efforts. This communication describes a collaborative partnership between an international humanitarian organization and an academic university to develop and rapidly deploy a remote digital COVID-19 trainer-of-trainers (TOT) program to enhance global response. The ongoing program has resulted in more than 900 TOT personnel who have themselves trained over 22,000 frontline response providers from 21 different countries and territories. The developed and implemented COVID-19 digital training program is a key example of how academic-humanitarian partnerships can be leveraged to strengthen healthcare training and response capacity during pandemics.Infective endocarditis caused by Neisseria macacae in humans is extremely rare. We presented here a case of N. macacae infective endocarditis in a 61-year-old man with a native aortic valve infection. N. macacae was isolated from blood culture and was detected by nanopore-based metagenomic sequencing in the vegetations. Finally, the patient recovered completely after surgery and antibiotic therapy.Tumour necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors are known to induce autoimmune diseases, such as lupus-like syndrome; in rare cases, TNF inhibitor-induced myositis has been reported. This report documents the case of a male patient with ulcerative colitis (UC) complicated by TNF inhibitor-induced myositis. After UC diagnosis and treatment with azathioprine and infliximab, he was evaluated for a recent 5-month history of muscle weakness and pain. Laboratory tests revealed elevated muscle enzymes, such as serum creatine kinase (CK) and aldolase. He also tested positive for anti-nuclear antibodies and anti-double stranded DNA antibodies. High-intensity signals in his quadriceps on magnetic resonance image (MRI) and fibrillation potentials in his proximal muscles on electromyography were demonstrated. Muscle biopsy revealed the endomysial infiltration of mononuclear cells surrounding myofibers. Eventually, the patient fulfilled the classification criteria for idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. Although an adverse drug reaction of infliximab had been speculated, his muscle involvements did not improve in 6 weeks from the last administration of infliximab; therefore, treatment with prednisolone was initiated. Subsequently, his muscle symptoms ameliorated, and his serum CK levels returned to normal. Repeat MRI revealed a complete resolution of the signal intensity, and he reported no symptoms of UC or myositis while prednisolone was tapered without resumption of infliximab. Clinicians should consider the diagnosis of drug-induced myositis if muscle symptoms develop in patients treated with TNF inhibitors.Aim The present study evaluated the effects of polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) on tissue regeneration, paying special attention to the molecular mechanisms that underlie its tissue remodeling actions to better identify its effective therapeutic potential in wound healing. GW806742X in vitro Materials & methods Strategic searches were conducted through MEDLINE/PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, from their earliest available dates to March 2020. The studies were included with the following eligibility criteria studies evaluating tissue regeneration, and being an in vitro, in vivo and clinical study. Results Out of more than 90 articles, 34 fulfilled the eligibility criteria. All data obtained proved the ability of PDRN in promoting a physiological tissue repair through salvage pathway and adenosine A2A receptor activation. Conclusion Up to date PDRN has proved promising results in term of wound regeneration, healing time and absence of side effects.
