50-64), who were uninsured (vs. insured) or had no clinic visit in the prior year (vs. ≥ 1 clinic visit). Common reasons listed for non-completion were that the patient declined, or the provider could not reach the patient.

Efforts to improve follow-up colonoscopy rates in health centers might focus on supporting the care transition from primary to specialty gastroenterology care and emphasize care for older uninsured patients and those having no recent clinic visits. Our findings can inform efforts to improve follow-up colonoscopy uptake, reduce time to colonoscopy receipt, and save lives from colorectal cancer.

National Clinical Trial (NCT) Identifier NCT03925883.

National Clinical Trial (NCT) Identifier NCT03925883.Aortic aneurysm (AA) and aortic dissection (AD) are major life-threatening diseases around the world. AA is a localized or diffuse dilation of the aorta, while AD is the separation of the layers creating a false lumen within the aortic wall. Fluoroquinolones (FQ) remain one of the most important kind of antibiotics and have a wider clinical use and broad antibacterial spectrum. FQ were also reported to treat infected AA. The most common adverse events (AEs) of FQ are mild and reversible, like headaches, diarrhea and nausea. Due to FQ-related serious AEs, such as tendonitis and tendon rupture, chondrotoxicity, or retinal detachment, QT-prolongation and dysglycemia, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a black box warning for FQ for systemic use in 2016 and updated warnings for FQ several times since then. selleck compound Of note, in December 2018, FDA issued several "black box warnings" against FQ with the latest safety announcement warning about an increased risk of ruptures in the aorta blood vessel in certain patients. Recently, many studies have indicated an association between FQ and an increase risk of AA and AD. However, the exact mechanism of FQ-induced AA/AD remains unclear. This review aims to highlight the latest research progress of the alarming association between FQ and AA/AD. Moreover, molecular mechanisms of FQ in increasing risk of AA and AD are explored. Hopefully, this review can provide novel insights into FQ-increased the risk of AA/AD and a starting place for stewardship interventions.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a common comorbidity in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and reduced lung function is an important risk factor for CVD and CVD-related death. However, the mechanisms behind the increased risk for CVD in COPD patients are not fully understood.

We examined the association between CVD- and inflammation-related serum biomarkers, and pulmonary function in a geriatric population. 266 biomarkers related to CVD and inflammation were analyzed in blood samples from 611 subjects aged 66-86years who participated in the Good Aging in Skåne study. Serum levels were assessed by a proximity extension assay. Pulmonary function was measured using the lower limit of normality (LLN) spirometry criteria, i.e., forced expiratory volume in 1s (FEV1)/forced vital capacity (FVC)  <  LLN. Logistic regression models were implemented and multiple comparisons were accounted for.

10.3% of the study participants fulfilled pulmonary function decline criteria according to LLN. Out of the 266 biomarkers, only plasminogen activator, urokinase receptor (PLAUR) was statistically significantly associated with decreased pulmonary function. We could not find a statistically significant association between pulmonary function decline and other biomarkers previously linked to COPD, such as interleukin 6, tumor necrosis factor and surfactant protein D.

We found that serum levels of PLAUR are associated with pulmonary function decline in older adults. PLAUR is activated following inflammation and promotes matrix metallopeptidase (MMP) activation and extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation. This implies that PLAUR could play a role in the early phase of COPD pathogenesis.

Protein phosphorylation plays an important role in lactation. Differentially modified phosphorylation sites and phosphorylated proteins between peak lactation (PL, 90 days postpartum) and late lactation (LL, 280 days postpartum) were investigated using an integrated approach, namely, liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and tandem mass tag (TMT) labeling, to determine the molecular changes in the mammary tissues during the different stages of goat lactation.

A total of 1,938 (1,111 upregulated, 827 downregulated) differentially modified phosphorylation sites of 1,172 proteins were identified (P values < 0.05 and fold change of phosphorylation ratios > 1.5). Multiple phosphorylation sites of FASN, ACACA, mTOR, PRKAA, IRS1, RPS6KB, EIF4EBP1, JUN, and TSC2 were different in PL compared with LL. In addition, the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis showed that the calcium signaling pathway, oxytocin signaling pathway and MAPK signaling pathway wereum signaling pathway, oxytocin signaling pathway, and MAPK signaling pathway are worthy of further exploration.

Chlorophyll (Chl) is a vital photosynthetic pigment involved in capturing light energy and energy conversion. In this study, the color conversion of inner-leaves from green to yellow in the new wucai (Brassica campestris L.) cultivar W7-2 was detected under low temperature. The W7-2 displayed a normal green leaf phenotype at the seedling stage, but the inner leaves gradually turned yellow when the temperature was decreased to 10 °C/2 °C (day/night), This study facilitates us to understand the physiological and molecular mechanisms underlying leaf color changes in response to low temperature.

A comparative leaf transcriptome analysis of W7-2 under low temperature treatment was performed on three stages (before, during and after leaf color change) with leaves that did not change color under normal temperature at the same period as a control. A total of 67,826 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway and Gene Ontology (GO) analysis revealed as CHLH and PSY, which regulate the accumulation of different pigments, are required for the modulation of leaf color change in wucai under low temperature.

The color of inner-leaves was changed from green to yellow under low temperature in temperature-sensitive mutant W7-2. Physiological, biochemical and transcriptomic studies showed that HY5 transcription factor and the downstream genes such as CHLH and PSY, which regulate the accumulation of different pigments, are required for the modulation of leaf color change in wucai under low temperature.

We aimed to evaluate the association between the shift of metabolic status and future risk of carotid artery plaque (CAP) in community-based Chinese adults.

The current study included 9836 Chinese adults (4085 males and 5751 females, mean age 35.8years) with metabolically healthy status at baseline (2013). Metabolically healthy status was defined as no self-reported history of metabolic diseases and cancer, and normal blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin A1c level, and lipid profiles. Metabolically unhealthy status was defined if any of the following metabolic abnormalities were confirmed twice during follow up high blood pressure, impaired glucose regulation, high triglycerides, high total cholesterol, high low-density lipoprotein cholesterols, or low high-density lipoprotein cholesterols. The transition was confirmed if participants' metabolic status shifted from baseline healthy to unhealthy status during follow up (2014-2018).

We have identified 133 incident cases of CAP during follow up. Compared to those who remained metabolically healthy, the transition to high blood pressure, high total cholesterol, and high low-density lipoprotein cholesterols, were associated with high risk of developing carotid artery plaque (Hazards ratios (HRs) ranged from 1.69 to 2.34; p < 0.05 for all). The transition to impaired glucose regulation, high total triglycerides, and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterols, were associated with high risk of carotid artery plaque only in participants with metabolically healthy overweight at baseline (HR ranged from 1.95 to 4.62; p < 0.05 for all).

The transition from baseline metabolically healthy status to unhealth status was associated with high risk of incident CAP.

The top of the olecranon honey peach (Prunus persica L.) fruit appears similar to an eagle's beak. In this study, a single olecranon honey peach with a round-type fruit was observed in our fruit orchard. To explore the genetic mechanism of olecranon formation, we performed full-length transcriptome sequencing analysis of olecranon and round peaches as well as a genome-wide association study of the association of olecranon-type trait loci.

The gene locus was 26,924,482 base pairs in NC_034014.1. Transcriptome sequencing showed that the clean sequencing data of each sample reached 7.10GB, with 14,360 genes and 23,167 transcripts expressed in both the olecranon honey peach and round peach. Among the 11 differentially expressed genes selected as candidate genes, six were highly expressed in olecranon peach and named as LOC18775282, LOC18772209, LOC18773929, LOC18772013, LOC18773401, and ONT.13798.5. Five genes were highly expressed in round peach and named as LOC18773079, LOC18773525, LOC18773067, LOC18775244, and LOC18772236. Notably, ONT.13798.5 was not previously identified. The genes were within 1Mb up- or down-stream of the main genome-wide association study locus for olecranon-type traits.

This study revealed loci associated with olecranon and provides useful information for analysis and breeding of olecranon honey peach.

To estimate median liver iron concentration (LIC) calculated from magnetic resonance imaging, excluded vessels of the liver parenchyma region were defined manually. Previous works proposed the automated method for excluding vessels from the liver region. However, only user-defined liver region remained a manual process. Therefore, this work aimed to develop an automated liver region segmentation technique to automate the whole process of median LIC calculation.

553 MR examinations from 471 thalassemia major patients were used in this study. LIC maps (in mg/g dry weight) were calculated and used as the input of segmentation procedures. Anatomical landmark data were detected and used to restrict ROI. After that, the liver region was segmented using fuzzy c-means clustering and reduced segmentation errors by morphological processes. According to the clinical application, erosion with a suitable size of the structuring element was applied to reduce the segmented liver region to avoid uncertainty around the edge of the liver.
