Up to one third (3-33%) oral squamous cell carcinomas develop from potentially malignant lesions. Most common potentially malignant lesions (PML) are Leukoplakia and Lichen planus. It is very important to diagnose PML at early stage to prevent malignant transformation of lesion. Survivin is a smallest member of the Inhibitor of Apoptosis (IAP) family of proteins. Survivin plays an important role in apoptosis regulation. High expression of survivin is an early event during oral carcinogenesis and it acts as a tool for the identification of precancerous lesions at higher risk of progression into invasive carcinoma. The aim of the study was to evaluate the expression of Survivin in oral leukoplakia, oral lichen planus.

15 patients with oral lichen planus, 15 patients of oral leukoplakia were selected as subjects for the present study and 15 patients with normal oral mucosa were selected as controls and all were evaluated for expression of survivin. All sections were H & E stained and were studied immunohistochemically for the expression of surviving.

Expression of survivin was evaluated based on percent of cells expressing survivin and grading was given according to that. Significant survivin expression was detected in oral leukoplakia, oral lichen planus, (P < 0.001).

Expression of survivin in potentially malignant lesions indicate potential risk of malignant transformation.

Studies have implicated alcohol consumption as a factor leading to male infertility. Tiger nuts (Cyperus esculentus) on the other hand, have been shown to possess the potential to boost male reproductive indices. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of tiger nuts on alcohol-induced testicular toxicity in male Sprague-Dawley rats.

Thirty male Sprague-Dawley rats (160g averagely) were divided into six groups (A-F) (n=5). Group A (Control) received distilled water only; Group B (Tiger nut alone) received 1.8 g/kg body weight (BW) tiger nut; Groups C-F received 1 ml of 30% v/v alcohol three times weekly but groups C-E, also, received varied doses of tiger nut (0.6, 1.2 and 1.8 g/kg) (low, medium and high doses, respectively). All administrations were by oral gavage for 8 weeks. Serum was obtained and assayed for FSH, LH, and testosterone. Sperm was analyzed for semen parameters, and vitamins C and E contents. The testes were analyzed for antioxidants and histomorphology.

There was a significant decrease in body and testicular weights, semen characteristics with altered contents of vitamins C and E, hormone profiles, and testicular morphology in alcohol-exposed rats when compared with the control animals. However, the administration of tiger nuts improved the testicular architecture, semen parameters, and antioxidant enzymes in a dose-dependent manner.

Supplementation with tiger nuts following alcohol administration produces a reversal of the deleterious effect of alcohol on the testis in a dose-dependent manner.

Lepromatous form is the most advanced, with the highest transmissibility and risk of causing disabilities. Lucio's phenomenon is a rare manifestation among lepromatous patients with a rapid and severe evolution and high mortality. It is difficult to differentiate from ulcerative/necrotic erythema nodosum leprosum and has no consensus on how it should be treated. This article is a qualitative review of the literature after the introduction of multidrug therapy, aiming to bring consensus related to the clinical, laboratory and histopathological diagnostic criteria of the disease and its management.

Port-wine stains occur in 0.3-0.5% newborns, mainly on the face and neck. Pulsed dye laser is recognized as the gold standard treatment; nevertheless, it is associated with a low cure rate and a high recurrence rate.

This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of hemoporfin photodynamic therapy for pulsed dye laser-resistant port-wine stains in children.

We studied 107 children who received hemoporfin photodynamic therapy for port-wine stains on the face and neck that were resistant to pulsed dye laser. After intravenous injection of 5 mg/kg hemoporfin, the local lesion was irradiated with 532 nm LED green light for 20 min with a power density of 80-100 mW/cm2. A total of 65 patients were given a second treatment after eight weeks. The efficacy and therapeutic responses were recorded at four days and eight weeks after each treatment.

The efficacy was positively correlated with the number of treatments received; two treatment sessions yielded significantly better results compared to a single treatment with a response rate of 96.9%, a significant response rate of 50.8% and a cure rate of 21.5%, respectively (P < 0.001). After two treatment sessions, the efficacy was negatively correlated with age (P = 0.04). The efficacy for port-wine stains located on the lateral part was better than that of the central face (P = 0.04). The efficacy for the pink type was better than that for the red and purple types (P = 0.03). No allergic or systematic adverse reactions were reported.

No objective measurement data were available.

Hemoporfin photodynamic therapy is effective and safe for pulsed dye laser-resistant facial port-wine stains in children.

Pyogenic granulomas are benign vascular lesions of the skin and mucosa which are often a source of concern because of their recurrent bleeding even with minimal trauma. Current treatment for pyogenic granuloma is ablative; no medical therapy is standardized to date. Timolol, due to its vasoconstrictive effect, vascular growth factor inhibition and apoptosis promotion properties, is a potential therapeutic option.

To assess the effectiveness and safety of topical timolol in the treatment of pyogenic granulomas.

A two-centre, double-blind and placebo-controlled trial (Registration CTRI/2019/04/018581) was conducted. Patients of either sex were recruited with pyogenic granuloma lesions of less than eight weeks duration. Topical treatment with 0.5% timolol or matching glycerin placebo was continued for six weeks. Changes in color, size, bleeding tendency, physicians' and patients' global assessments and adverse events were assessed.

Forty subjects were randomized between the two groups which were comparabolution is unlikely in six weeks. Studies of longer duration are required to assess resolution and recurrence rates.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has changed the practice of all health-care professionals. Determining the impact could prevent repercussions in future crisis.

The objectives of the study were to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on dermatology residents' professional practice, working conditions, academic training and mental health.

An online questionnaire was sent to all French dermatology residents. We compared the activity of residents working in areas heavily impacted by COVID-19 to others. Logistic multivariate regressions were done, using as outcome variables the negative impact of the COVID crisis on residents' possibility to practice dermatology during the crisis, supervision, academic training and working more than 50 h/week. The last part of the questionnaire was the burnout questionnaire of Maslach.

A total of 246 residents filled the questionnaire. Residents working in highly impacted COVID areas (odds ratio, OR 0.34 confidence interval, CI [0.18, 0.61], P ≤ 0.001), first-yearmatology residents have been highly affected by COVID-19. It might be important to have a more integrated healthcare system to fight times of crisis with the least repercussions on residents.

The context in which an innovation is implemented is an important and often neglected mediator of change. A prospective payment system (PPS) for psychiatric and psychosomatic facilities with major implications for inpatient psychiatric care in Germany was implemented from 2013 to 2017. Tivozanib This study aims to examine the determinants of implementation of this government policy using the Diffusion of Innovations theory and consider the role of context.

An exploratory case study was conducted in two wards of a psychiatric hospital in Germany geriatric psychiatry (GerP) and general psychiatry (GenP). Fifteen interviews were conducted with different occupational groups and analyzed in-depths. Routine hospital data were analyzed for delimiting the two contexts.

Routine hospital data show a higher day-mix index (1.08 vs. 0.94) in the GerP context and a very different structure regarding PPS groups, indicating a higher patient complexity. Two types of factors influencing implementation were identified Context-indep affected by the innovation.

This study shows how a diffusion process takes place in an organization even after the organization adopts an innovation. The authors could show how contextual differences in terms of patient characteristics result in different determinants of implementation from the views of the employees affected by the innovation. Objective We tried to implant the ultra-fast polymer optical fiber chemical oxygen sensor (POFCOS) into arterial blood vessel, connect with photoelectric conversion measurement system to record the continuous dynamic rapid changes of arterial PO2(PaO2) in whole living animals.
