The therapeutic potential of modulators of purinergic signaling is vast.Chrysosporium-related fungi, the cause of superficial and deep mycoses, are an emerging infectious disease affecting not only reptiles but also immunocompromized humans. However, the information on Nannizziopsis arthrosporioides is extremely scarce. We herein characterized N. arthrosporioides isolated from a Cuban rock iguana (Cyclura nubila). Three skin ulcers were found in a Cuban rock iguana after captivity for 8 years. Microscopic examination revealed hyperplastic, hyperkeratotic, and ulcerative dermatitis coupled with numerous branched, septate fungal hyphae. Poly(vinyl alcohol) The fungal culture yielded growth of zonate, felted cottony-powdery colonies with lobate margins on medium. Maximum-likelihood phylogeny tree based on the combined partial actin and partial β-tubulin genes demonstrated that current isolates were mostly close to N. arthrosporioides. Furthermore, antifungal susceptibility test demonstrated that N. arthrosporioides had lowest minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values to isavuconazole, efinaconazole, and luliconazole, which may be the potential treatment of choice for N. arthrosporioides infection. The current study describes the first confirmed case of dermatomycosis caused by N. arthrosporioides of a captive reptile in Asia with detailed descriptions of the clinical, histopathological, and mycological features. The current findings provide new information on global distribution and host range of N. arthrosporioides and can raise the concern on the transboundary or emerging disease of N. arthrosporioides in Asian region.
This study was designed to investigate the situation of social anxiety among left-behind children in rural areas of Hunan Province, China, and to study the effect of social anxiety on loneliness.
A total of 797 left-behind children were selected from rural areas in Hunan Province, China. The basic information questionnaire for left-behind children, Social Anxiety Scale for Children, Perceived Social Support Scale and UCLA Loneliness Scale were used for investigation.
(1) The social anxiety score of left-behind children in China is 6.84 ± 4.28, higher than non-left-behind children, and the score of boys is lower than that of girls, with no significant difference. The score of left-behind children in grade 5 is significantly lower than that of left-behind children in other grades. (2) The overall loneliness score is 16.30 ± 5.10, higher than non-left-behind children, and the score of boys is significantly higher than that of girls. (3) Social anxiety has a significant positive predictive effect on loneliness (P < 0.01). Regression analysis shows that social anxiety not only affects loneliness directly, but also affects loneliness indirectly through the mediating role of perceived social support.
Social anxiety is a risk factor for loneliness of left-behind children in rural areas. In the influence of social anxiety on loneliness, social support plays a partial mediating role.

Although the role of long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) KCNQ1OT1 in CIRI has been reported, the specific mechanism is still unclear. In this paper, the regulation of ERS by LncRNA KCNQ1OT1 in CIRI and its mechanism were studied. Transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO) model was established in SD rats with KCNQ1OT1 intervention. PC12 cells were used to construct the OGD/R cell model. The expressions of LncRNA KCNQ1OT1 and miR-30b were detected by RT-qPCR. TCC staining was used to detect the extent of cerebral ischemia. TUNEL staining was used to detect apoptosis level, and Western blot was used to detect the expressions of ERS and apoptosis-related proteins. The targeted binding of LncRNA KCNQ1OT1, miR-30b, and GRP78 was detected by double luciferase assay. The expressions of LncRNA KCNQ1OT1 and miR-30b were interfered by cell transfection. Cell proliferation was detected by CCK-8. The level of LncRNA KCNQ1OT1 was increased and that of miR-30b was decreased in the blood samples of patients with CIRI. In tMCAO rats with KCNQ1OT1 intervention, the expression of miR-30b was increased, and the ischemic range of brain tissues was decreased. What's more, the level of ERS was decreased, and the apoptosis of brain tissues was decreased. LncRNA KCNQ1OT1 could regulate miR-30b/GRP78 in OGD/R cells in a targeted way. Intervention of KCNQ1OT1 could promote the proliferation of OGD/R cells, inhibiting the level of ERS and cell apoptosis. Further inhibition of miR-30b could reverse the effect of intervention of KCNQ1OT1. LncRNA KCNQ1OT1 regulates ERS to affect CIRI through targeting miR-30b/GRP78.
Plant identification applications for use on smartphones have been increasing in availability, accuracy, and utilization. We aimed to perform an introductory study to determine if a plant identification application (ID app) used on a smartphone could identify toxic plants, and to compare apps to determine which is most reliable.
We compared three popular iPhone plant ID apps, PictureThis (PT), PlantSnap (PS), and Pl@ntNet (PN), used to identify 17 commonly encountered toxic plants. Apps were used to photograph the entire plant, leaves, and flowers of ≥ 10 different plants for each species. Two toxicologists performed plant identification with confirmation of identification performed by a botanist, and inter-researcher agreement was confirmed. For each plant species, scores for accuracy of app identification of leaves, flowers, and whole plant were combined to create an overall composite score used to compare accuracy of each app (95% C.I.).
PictureThis had the best performance with 10/17 (59% [36 to 78]) plant species identified 100% correctly, as opposed to 8/17 (47% [26 to 69]) for Pl@ntNet and 1/17 for PlantSnap (5.8% [1.1 to 27]).
A plant identification app may be a useful tool to assist healthcare providers and the public in identifying toxic plants.
