MicroRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) exert either as tumor-inhibiting or oncogenic roles in tumorigenesis of lung cancer. In the present study, we identified a novel microRNA (miR)-27a as being involved in the radiosensitivity of lung cancer cells. Therefore, we sought to characterize its potential underlying mechanism in lung cancer cell sensitivity to radiotherapy. To this end, A549 and H460 cells irradiated with 8 Gy irradiation (IR) were used as a cell model. RT-qPCR exhibited that the expression of miR-27a increased, whereas ZEB1 was poorly expressed in A549 and H460 cells exposed to IR. As reflected by dual-luciferase reporter gene assay, miR-27a could target and inversely modulate ZEB1 expression. Gain- and loss-of-function experiments exhibited that miR-27 inhibition promoted proliferation of IR-treated A549 and H460 cells and reduced the sensitivity of A549 and H460 cells to radiotherapy, which was rescued by silencing of ZEB1. Further, miR-27a inhibition disrupted the homologous recombination (HR)-mediated DNA repair, evidenced by reduced ATM, pCHK2 and Rad51 levels. All specialities have changed their way of working during the pandemic. In this study, we evaluated the impact of COVID-19 on the practice of interventional pulmonology at our centre. All interventional pulmonology procedures done during the three months after implementation of lockdown were evaluated retrospectively for patient demographics, clinical diagnosis, indication for procedure and diagnostic accuracy. The changes in practices, additional human resources requirement, the additional cost per procedure and impact on resident training were also assessed. Procedures done during the month of January 2020 were used as controls for comparison. Twenty-two flexible bronchoscopies (75.8%), four semirigid thoracoscopies (13.7%) and three EBUS-TBNAs (10.3%) were carried out during three month lockdown period as compared to 174 during January 2020. Twenty-three of the procedures were for the diagnostic indication (79%), and six were therapeutic (20.6%). The diagnostic yield in suspected neoplasm was 100% while for suspected infections was 58.3%. The percentage of independent procedures being done by residents reduced from 45.4% to 0%. The workforce required per procedure increased from 0.75 to 4-8, and the additional cost per procedure came out to be 135 USD. A five-month field study of day-to-day life in the hospital's nursing division was conducted by means of an ethnographic revisit, using participant-observation, semi-structured interviews, free conversations and documentary material.

Using labour process analysis with ethnographic data from a general hospital, the corporate culture is represented as faceted, complex and sophisticated, lending little support to the managerial claims that if corporate objectives are realised, they are achieved through some combination of shared values, beliefs and managerial practices. Providing support for carers is socially and economically important, enabling them to continue in their caring role and improving their day-to-day experience of caring. This article comprises a reflection by one dementia nurse specialist who ran a six-week educational support group for carers of people living with dementia. It describes the development of the group and the challenges faced, as well as discussing the future of the group, including the need to ensure its sustainability through collaborative working. The article also details some of the positive outcomes described by carers who attended the group.

Simulation is often used in healthcare education because it enables students to practise clinical skills in a safe environment where mistakes can occur without the risk of patient harm. Simulation can involve varying levels of fidelity (realism), ranging from low fidelity (for example, using role play) to high fidelity (for example, using sophisticated technology such as augmented or virtual reality).

To investigate if a high-fidelity simulation environment improves confidence and the performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in first-year undergraduate adult nursing students.

This small pilot study involved a sample of 15 participants who were randomised into an intervention group (n=7) and a control group (n=8). The control group received teaching and were tested on the skill of CPR using a manikin in a medium-fidelity simulation scenario in a modified classroom environment, while the intervention group received the same teaching, testing and simulation scenario but in a high-fidelity 'immersion suite'. Quantitative data were collected using a pre-intervention and post-intervention self-report confidence questionnaire and from performance data generated by the Laerdal Medical 'Little Anne' manikin QCPR software.

Overall, there were no statistically significant improvements in performance metrics for the intervention group compared with the control group. Both groups reported overall improvements in confidence regarding their knowledge and skills in managing a critically ill patient, but these results were not deemed to be statistically significant.

Here, we performed in situ Hi-C in HCC cell line PLC/PRF/5 compared with normal liver cell line L02, together with RNA-seq and ChIP-seq of SMC3/CTCF/H3K27ac. The results indicate that there were significant compartment switching, TAD shifting and loop pattern altering in PLC/PRF/5. These spatial changes are correlated with abnormal gene expression and more opening promoter regions of the HCC cell line. Thus, the 3D genome organization alterations in PLC/PRF/5 are important in epigenetic mechanisms of HCC tumorigenesis.
