This study explores the pattern of cutaneous malignancies seen in albinos in South East Nigeria. Objective To determine the pattern of cutaneous malignancies among albinos in Anambra state, Nigeria. Materials and methods A cross-sectional study conducted in Anambra State, Nigeria. Ninety albinos from the Albino foundation Anambra state were recruited. Malignant dermatoses were characterized clinically and confirmed by histology. Fifty-eight lesions from 30 albinos were biopsied to determine the presence of malignancy. Results Skin cancers were seen in 20.98% of all participants and in 18 (60%) of all the albinos who had skin biopsy. The SCC/BCC ratio was 1.0 2.3. There was no cutaneous melanoma. Conclusion Contrary to previous reports, it would appear that the pattern of cutaneous malignancies in albinos shows the same trend as that seen in Caucasians and fair-skinned Africans. © the authors; licensee ecancermedicalscience.Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common haematological malignancy in the USA. MM has been linked to various autoimmune disorders in many studies; one systemic review even suggested an increased risk of MM among patients with autoimmune disorders. MM is associated with many haematological, rheumatologic and neurological conditions. A few case reports suggest that MM can be associated with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), although this is rare. We present a case of MM with concurrent ITP which was refractory of steroids and intravenous immunoglobulin but had a response with anti-neoplastic therapy for MM. We also review all the cases of ITP with MM described in the literature. If conventional treatment for ITP associated with MM fails to improve platelet count, anti-neoplastic therapy for MM should be considered. © the authors; licensee ecancermedicalscience.Secondary acute myeloid leukaemia complicating the natural disease course of pre-existing Philadelphia chromosome-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (PN-MPN) is well documented and associated with treatment challenges and significant morbidity. The incidence of a T-cell malignancy developing in patients with pre-existing PN-MPN is uncommon, with one case documented in the literature. We present two cases of angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) and one case of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (T-ALL) that developed in patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET) and primary myelofibrosis (PMF), respectively. All malignancies were advanced at diagnosis and exhibited disease progression, regardless of the mutational status of the underlying ET/PMF, presence of cytogenetic abnormalities, type of T-cell neoplasm or systemic chemotherapy utilised. The median time to diagnosis of AITL or T-ALL from the onset of MPN was 4.5 years (range 6 months-10 years). At high vehicle speeds, however, the complex airflow produced by the open flexible-spoke structure of NPT yields high aerodynamic noise, which contributes to sound pollution in the vehicular traffic environment. Inspired by the idea that a nonsmooth riblet structure can affect fluid flow and offer noise reduction, the analyses of the effect of the nonsmooth riblet surface on the aerodynamic noise of an NPT and noise reduction mechanism were presented in this paper. First, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to analyze the surface pressure coefficient characteristics of a smooth flexible-spoke tire rolling at a speed of 80 km/h and subsequently validating the numerical simulation results by comparing them with published test results. Secondly, large eddy simulation (LES) and the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FW-H) method were, respectively, used to determine the transient flow and far-field aerodynamic noise. Then, the mechanism of noise reduction was investigated using a vortex theory. Based on the vortex theory, the positions and strengths of noise sources were determined using the Lamb vector. Finally, according to the fluid boundary layer theory, a nonsmooth riblet surface was arranged on the surface of the spokes, and the influences of the riblet structure parameters, including size, position, and direction, on aerodynamic noise were analyzed. Based on the vortex theory, it was found that the nonsmooth riblet structure can reduce the Lamb vector, suppress the generation of flow vortices, decrease acoustic source strength, and effectively decrease noise up to 5.18 dB using the optimized riblet structure. The study results provide a theoretical basis for the structural design of a new low-noise NPT. The present study aimed to investigate mental health status and associated school interpersonal relationships among adolescents in China, which may help to inform effective prevention strategies to reduce the prevalence of mental health problems. Methods In the cross-sectional study, a total of 10,131 middle school students were selected from three cities in eastern China by stratified random sampling. The Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90), Teacher-Student Relationship Questionnaire (TSRQ) and Peer Relationship Scale (PRS) were used to evaluate psychological symptoms, the quality of relationship with teachers and the quality of relationship with peers, respectively. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted to explore the association between school interpersonal relationships and mental health problems in adolescents. Results 36% of the middle school students reported positive in mental health problems assessed by the SCL-90.
