However, with few exceptions, the great majority of existing genome assemblies are derived from short read sequencing technologies with highly uneven read coverages indicative of sequencing and assembly issues that could significantly impact any downstream analysis of plant genomes. In tomato for example, 0.6% (5.1 Mb) and 9.7% (79.6 Mb) of short-read based assembly had significantly higher and lower coverage compared to background, respectively.

To understand what the causes may be for such uneven coverage, we first established machine learning models capable of predicting genomic regions with variable coverages and found that high coverage regions tend to have higher simple sequence repeat and tandem gene densities compared to background regions. To determine if the high coverage regions were misassembled, we examined a recently available tomato long-read based assembly and found that 27.8% (1.41 Mb) of high coverage regions were potentially misassembled of duplicate sequences, compared to 1.4% in background regions. In addition, using a predictive model that can distinguish correctly and incorrectly assembled high coverage regions, we found that misassembled, high coverage regions tend to be flanked by simple sequence repeats, pseudogenes, and transposon elements.

This study examines the association between socioeconomic and lifestyle factors and the prevalence of hypertension among elderly individuals in rural Southwest China.

A cross-sectional survey of 4833 consenting adults aged ≥ 60years in rural regions of Yunnan Province, China, was conducted in 2017. Data on individual socioeconomic status, sleep quality, physical activity level, and family history of hypertension were collected with a standardized questionnaire. Blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, height, weight, and waist circumference were also measured. An individual socioeconomic position (SEP) index was constructed using principal component analysis. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was applied to analyse the association between socioeconomic and lifestyle factors and the prevalence of hypertension.

To evaluate the predictive value of the index of microcirculatory resistance (IMR) for long-term cardiac systolic function after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) in patients with acute anterior wall ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

A total of 53 acute anterior wall STEMI patients were included and followed up within 1-year. IMR was measured to evaluate the immediate intraoperative reperfusion. IMR > 40 U was defined as the high IMR group and ≤ 40 U was defined as the low IMR group. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was measured by echocardiography at 24h, 1month, 3months, and 1year after PCI to analyze the correlation between IMR and cardiac systolic function. Heart failure was estimated according to classification within one year.

The ratio of TMPG (TIMI myocardial perfusion grade) 3 (85.7% vs. 52%, p = 0.015) and STR (ST-segment resolution) > 70% (82.1% vs. 48%, p = 0.019) were significantly higher in the low IMR group. Advance care planning (ACP) is a process that enables individuals to describe, in advance, the kind of health care they would want in the future. There is evidence that ACP reduces hospital-based interventions, especially at the end of life. ACP for frail older adults is especially important as this population is more likely to use hospital services but less likely to benefit from resource intensive care. Our study goal was to evaluate whether an approach to ACP developed for frail older adults, known as the Palliative and Therapeutic Harmonization or PATH, demonstrated an improvement in ACP.

The PATH approach was adapted to a primary care service for homebound older adults in Vancouver, Canada. This retrospective chart review collected surrogate measures related to ACP from 200 randomly selected patients enrolled in the service at baseline (prior to June 22, 2017), and 114 consecutive patients admitted to the program after implementation of the PATH ACP initiative (October 1, 2017 to May 1, 2018). We compared the following surrogate markers of ACP before and after implementation of the PATH model, chart documentation of frailty stage, substitute decision-maker, resuscitation decision, and hospitalization decision.
