It is unclear whether decreased sedentary behaviors are maintained long-term. This was a follow-up to a previous intervention study to investigate whether observed sitting time decreases of 30-50% were sustained 12-24 months later. A secondary aim was to compare overall physical activity between office workers with and without standing desks. Although sitting time increased over the follow-up period, this did not reach significance and reductions in workplace sitting remained significantly lower (23.5% decrease) from baseline values. There were no differences in the physical activity measures between workers with and without access to standing desks, although this was a small sample size and further research is needed. Individuals who are motivated to try standing desks at work can benefit through decreased sitting time long-term, however this may not extend to increased overall physical activity levels.PRACTITIONER SUMMARY Providing standing desk options to office-based employees can have long-lasting impacts with reducing sitting time at work. Office workers who choose to stand at work do not appear to compensate with overall activity level reduction outside of work.This study aimed to examine the effects of head movement restriction on relative angles and their derivatives using the stepwise segmentation approach during lifting and lowering tasks. Ten healthy men lifted and lowered a box using two styles (stoop and squat), with two loads (i.e. 10% and 20% of body weight); they performed these tasks with two instructed head postures [(1) Flexing the neck to keep contact between chin and chest over the task cycle; (2) No instruction, free head posture]. The neck flexion significantly affected the flexion angle of all segments of the spine and specifically the lumbar part. Additionally, this posture significantly affected the derivatives of the relative angles and manifested latency in spine segments movement, that is, cephalad-to-caudad or caudad-to-cephalad patterns. Conclusively, neck flexion as an awkward posture could increase the risk of low back pain during lifting and lowering tasks in occupational environments. However, its mechanism in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has not been well-researched. We aim to investigate the role of miR-101-3p in cisplatin-resistant via regulation of autophagy-related protein 4D (ATG4D) and autophagy. Cell viability, apoptosis, fluorescence intensity of GFP-LC3 and RFP-GFP-LC3 were determined using Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, flow cytometry, and Laser scanning confocal microscope analysis, respectively. The levels of LC3II/LC3I, P62 and ATG4D were detected by Western blot. The results showed that the sensitivity to cisplatin in NSCLC cells was up-regulated by miR-101-3p mimics treatment, inducing promoting cell apoptosis and inhibiting autophagy. Further mechanistic study identified that ATG4D was a direct target of miR-101-3p. Moreover, ATG4D siRNA also could reverse miR-101-3p inhibitor-induced the up-regulation of ATG4D and the ration of LC3II/LC3I, the down-regulation of p62 expression. Our findings indicated that miR-101-3p could regulate sensitivity to cisplatin of NSNCC cells by regulating autophagy mediated by ATG4D. Therefore, flavonoids from celery leaves can be considered natural antioxidants and bacterial inhibitors.AbstractThe aim of this study was to examine the association between polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) biomarkers, such as omega-3 (ω-3) index and arachidonic acid (AA; 204 ω-6)/eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 205ω-3) ratio (AA/EPA), and the prevalence of running-related injuries (RRI) in a cohort of recreational runners. We performed a retrospective, observational study of 275 non-elite runners (mean age 41.20 ± 12.47 years) who were not supplemented with ω-3 fatty acids. The training characteristics and RRI were recorded over a period of 12 months through a self-reported questionnaire. Using whole blood samples collected by finger prick, PUFA were quantified by gas chromatography and ω-3 index and AA/EPA ratio measured. A total of 191 RRI cases were reported, with an injury prevalence rate of 50.9% in the overall population. The injured runners ran a significantly greater weekly distance than uninjured subjects (53.54 ± 25.27 km/week; p = 0.007). In a multivariate regression analysis, the lowest number of RRI was associated with higher values of ω-3 index (β = - 0.237; 95% CI - 0.308 to - 0.164; R2 = 0.172; p  less then  0.0001), while a higher AA/EPA ratio was correlated with higher number of RRI (β = 0.019; 95% CI 0.007 to 0.031; R2 = 0.038; p = 0.003). This study identifies ω-3 index and AA/EPA ratio as potential parameters associated with the risk of RRI. Future research is needed to confirm these results and apply specific nutritional strategies to successfully modify these biochemical variables.Trial registration ISRCTN.org identifier ISRCTN12847156..Few studies have used a multidimensional acculturation framework, i.e., cultural practices, identity, and values, to investigate links with alcohol or drug use of Latinx immigrants to the U.S. This cross-sectional study tested links between measures of acculturation (language-based Hispanicism and Americanism, cultural identity, familism), acculturative stress, and alcohol or drug use, controlling for age and gender. 391 adult (18-44 years old) Latinx immigrants (69% women) completed measures on past 6-month behavior in Spanish or English. Results showed that Americanism was related to alcohol use severity, heavy episodic drinking, drug use severity, and any drug use. Acculturative stress was related to alcohol use severity, drug use severity, and any drug use, but not heavy episodic drinking. Familism was inversely related to drug use severity and any drug use, but not alcohol use severity or heavy episodic drinking. Cultural identity and Hispanicism were not related to alcohol or drug use. Consistent with previous research, a language-based measure of acculturation to the U.S. (Americanism) and acculturative stress were related to alcohol and drug use. Incremental validity of a multidimensional acculturation approach was limited. Given that research is unavailable for Black college students on the factor structure of the Everyday Discrimination Scale (EDS) using chronicity-based coding, the first aim of the study is to examine the factor structure of the chronicity-based version of the EDS. The second aim is to investigate whether distressed coping is an intervening construct between PRD and cannabis use among Black college students. Participants, recruited from a midwestern PWI (N = 119), completed the EDS, the coping subscale of the Comprehensive Marijuana Motivations Measure, and reported past-year cannabis use.
