The pentahydroxylated chalcone 1 was the only one that was able to modulate the NETs release. This study provided important considerations about the chalcones' scaffold and their modulatory effect on human neutrophil activities at physiological and high glucose conditions, evidencing their potential use as complementary antidiabetic agents.Chiral auxiliaries and asymmetric catalysis are the workhorses of enantioselective transformations, but they still remain limited in terms of either efficiency or generality. Herein, we present an alternative strategy for controlling the stereoselectivity of chemical reactions. Asymmetric catalysis is used to install a transient chiral auxiliary starting from achiral precursors, which then directs diastereoselective reactions. We apply this strategy to a palladium-catalyzed carboetherification/hydrogenation sequence on propargylic amines, providing fast access to enantioenriched chiral amino alcohols, important building blocks for medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. All stereoisomers of the product could be accessed by the choice of ligand and substituent on the propargylic amine, leading to a stereodivergent process.Approximately 1700 naphthoquinones have been reported from a range of natural product source materials, but only 283 have been isolated from fungi, fewer than 75 of those were dimers, and only 2 were heterodimers with a head-to-tail linkage. During a search for anticancer leads from fungi, a series of new naphthoquinones (1-4), including two heterodimers (3 and 4), were isolated from Pyrenochaetopsis sp. (strain MSX63693). In addition, the previously reported 5-hydroxy-6-(1-hydroxyethyl)-2,7-dimethoxy-1,4-naphthalenedione (5), misakimycin (6), 5-hydroxy-6-[1-(acetyloxy)ethyl]-2,7-dimethoxy-1,4-naphthalenedione (7), 6-ethyl-2,7-dimethoxyjuglone (8), and kirschsteinin (9) were isolated. While the structure elucidation of 1-9 was achieved using procedures common for natural products chemistry studies (high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HRESIMS), 1D and 2D NMR), the elucidation of the heterodimers was facilitated substantially by data from the long-range heteronuclear single quantum multiple bond correlation (LR-HSQMBC) experiment. The absolute configuration of 1 was established by analysis of the measured vs calculated ECD data. The racemic mixture of 4 was established via X-ray crystallography of an analogue that incorporated a heavy atom. All compounds were evaluated for cytotoxicity against the human cancer cells lines MDA-MB-435 (melanoma), MDA-MB-231 (breast), and OVCAR3 (ovarian), where the IC50 values ranged between 1 and 20 μM.Anti-cardiac fibrosis (CF) is one of the key therapeutic strategies for the treatment of various heart diseases. Therefore, development of drugs targeting CF is promising. However, there are very few studies that systemically explore effective drugs for CF. It has been known that many natural compounds display antifibrosis effects. In this work, we aim to build an integrated model for systematic pursuit of anti-CF agents from natural compounds. We first constructed a heart-specific CF marker-gene-centered functional gene module (HCFM) that represents a set of genes specifically involved in CF based on the CF marker genes and known gene coexpression knowledge. Then, we extracted transcriptional data induced by natural compounds from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. The anti-CF effects of compounds were evaluated by the correlation of HCFM in the compound-induced gene expression profiles by gene set enrichment analysis. Finally, the anti-CF effect of a top-predicted natural monomer, schisantherin A, was experimentally validated in the myocardial infarction animal model. This strategy integrating different types of technologies is expected to help create new opportunities for development of drugs targeting CF.SARS-CoV-2 is a positive stranded-RNA human viral pathogen that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), causing interminable diseases. Although alcohol-based hand sanitizers (ABHS) control the widespread transmission of such pathogens through dermal contact, excessive exposure to alcohol mists and vapors causes CNS disorders, apart from skin infections and negative impacts on the useful microbiome. Enzalutamide Herein, we propose bentonite paste, which interacts strongly with different +RNA viruses such as SARS-CoV-2/poliovirus, for dermal sanitization. Repeated hand cleansing with bentonite paste not only provides complete protection against any viruses but also improves the skin condition. The proposed method is useful for contact isolation and as a strict infection control tool in hospital settings and in public. It is common in the field of printed electronics that polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) be used as a dielectric layer for capacitive sensors because of its high elasticity and restoration force. However, capacitive sensors with the PDMS dielectric layer have a lower sensitivity than those with an air-gap structure that has been fabricated by the conventional micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) process. This paper presents a productive method for fabricating air-gap structures for touch sensors by roll-to-roll slot-die coating. The air-gap is formed by coating and removing a sacrificial layer. Cantilever-structured capacitive touch sensors with an air-gap are fabricated as follows First, the bottom electrode, the dielectric layer, and the poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) sacrificial layer are roll-to-roll slot-die-coated on a flexible substrate. In addition, the spacer layer is spin-coated. On the sacrificial and spacer layers, the top electrode and structural layer are formed by spin-coating. Then, the air-gap and cantilever structure are made by removing the sacrificial layer in water. The cantilever-structured sensor samples are examined in terms of sensitivity, hysteresis, and repeatability. In particular, the electrical performance of the samples is compared to those with the PDMS dielectric layer. Experimental results show that the cantilever-structured sensor samples have significantly higher sensitivity compared to those with the PDMS dielectric layer.
