Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is a treatment for both primary and secondary cutaneous tumours. The international Network for sharing practices on ECT group investigates treatment outcomes after ECT using a common database with defined parameters.
Twenty-eight centres across Europe prospectively uploaded data over an11-year period. Response rates were investigated in relation to primary diagnosis, tumour size, choice of electrode type, route of bleomycin administration, electrical parameters recorded and previous irradiation in the treated field.
Nine hundred eighty-seven patients, with 2482 tumour lesions were included in analysis. For different histologies, OR and CR rates for metastases of malignant melanoma were 82% and 64%, basal cell carcinoma were 96% and 85%, breast cancer metastases were 77% and 62%, squamous cell carcinoma were 80% and 63% as well as Kaposiment response informing future treatment choices.The exposure to extremely high temperatures varies across population groups. Those with better adaptation strategies (such as air conditioning) suffer less. This paper combines China's daily mean temperature data with comprehensive national survey data at the household level and estimates the relationship between high-temperature exposure and adaptation behavior of urban dwellers. We find that the usage of air conditioning and electric fans by urban households in China increases with their summer high-temperature exposures. The rise in the number of days with extreme heat (mean temperature exceeding 80 °F) induces the purchase and use of air conditioning. High-temperature adaptability varied across households-the rich are more likely to increase air conditioning usage to cope with the high-temperature discomfort; while the poor are less likely to afford such a market product for adaptation, they suffer more from high-temperature exposure. Such a variation in the affordability and usage of market products to adapt to climate risks will exacerbate the climate-induced inequality.Lagooning sludge (LS), which is used as soil amendment in Morocco, may contain microplastics (MPs). The aim of this study was to examine the effect of dewatering and co-composting of LS with green waste (GW) on the MPs' evolution. In this context the present study proposes fast-preliminary steps to detect plastics in lagooning sewage sludge before the extraction and identification process. We used pyrolysis GC/MS spectrometry to investigate the presence of chemical compounds possibly derived from plastics, and fluorescence staining by Nile Red to detect fluorescent particles suspected as plastics. Thereafter, we quantified the MPs particles after density fractionation and investigated their nature by Raman spectroscopy. RESULTS indicated the presence of an average of 40.5 ± 11.9 × 103 MPs particles/kg (dry matter) and 36 ± 9.7 × 103 MPs particles/kg (dry matter) in fresh sludge and dewatered sludge respectively. Sludge dewatering in drying beds resulted a loss of small MPs ( less then 500 μm). In co-composts, the quantity of MPs varied with the proportion of sewage sludge. The distribution of MPs types differentiated by colour and types (polypropylene, polyethylene, polyamide and polyester) evolved differently. Conventional co-composting did not have any effect on MPs quantity, indicating that they are not biodegradable under these temperature conditions, but it influenced their particle size. The risks of these pollutants after repeated field application and the possibility of their reduction through others co-composting procedures and techniques would be further investigated.The disposal of landfill leachate is a chronic problem facing the municipal solid waste industry. The composition of landfill leachate is highly variable and often dependent on site-specific conditions. Due to the potentially disruptive impact on wastewater treatment processes, wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) are reluctant to accept landfill leachate for co-treatment. To improve the ability of WWTPs to screen the impact of landfill leachate and reduce landfill owners' cost of disposal, two bench scale methods were evaluated. First, six landfill leachates were screened with the specific oxygen uptake rate (SOUR) test, and second, the effect of leachate on the efficacy of activated sludge processes using lab scale sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) was determined with volumetric loading rates ranging from 5% to 20%. Results suggested that these tools can be used to estimate the impacts of leachate loading on biological processes. Both tools were able to identify loadings where biological activity was increased and inhibition of biological processes was minimized. The loading that maximized microbial activity was leachate specific and typically ranged from 5% to 10%. Taken together, these results suggest that improved landfill leachate screening and testing may improve outcomes at WWTPs by identifying a "Goldilocks" loading rate that increases biological activity. Nevertheless, our results also demonstrated that the effluent quality was degraded even at loading rates that increased biological activity. It is uncertain at this time if biological acclimation can remedy increased effluent nutrient mass loadings, suggesting further research is needed.It is increasingly recognized that restoration actions in marine environments are required in order to deal with continued habitat degradation and to support conservation strategies. Restoration success is judged on the ecological outcomes but with limited resources the magnitude of the societal benefits achieved is an important consideration for policy makers. This study demonstrates how the potential non-market benefit value of a deep-sea restoration project might be assessed. The contingent valuation method is employed to elicit the Italian population's willingness to pay for the restoration of the Dohrn deep-sea canyon in the Bay of Naples. Sample selection models that control for the impact of protest zero bidders on benefit value estimation are compared to more traditional modelling approaches. The results indicate a positive willingness to pay for the restoration of the canyon ecosystem and the importance of accounting for protest zero bidders in contingent valuation studies, especially when the environmental good is unfamiliar to respondents.
