After that, electrically aligned s-SWCNT solution was cast on a silicon substrate, and the length of the nanotube arrays was measured as ∼2 to ∼14 μm with an areal density of ∼2 to ∼20 tubes/μm of s-SWCNTs. Next, electrically aligned s-SWCNT arrays were deposited on the channel of the FET device by drop-casting. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy and electrical measurements have been carried out to test the performance of the aligned s-SWCNTs/FETs. The fabricated FETs with a channel length of 10 μm showed stable electrical properties with a field-effect mobility of 30.4 cm2/Vs and a log10 (Ion/Ioff) current ratio of 3.96. GsMTx4 We envisage that this new chemical-based separation method and electric field-assisted alignment could be useful to obtain a high-purity and aligned s-SWCNT array network for the fabrication of high-performance FETs to use in digital and analog electronics. The pharmacokinetics, safety, and anticancer efficacy profiles of nanoparticle albumin-bound (nab)-paclitaxel formulations are superior to those of solvent-based paclitaxel formulations. The aims of the present study were to study the effects of nab-paclitaxel and solvent-based paclitaxel formulations on the metabolic profiles of the model cell line (A549) and attempt to elucidate the associated metabolic pathways. A mass spectrometry-based cell metabolomics approach and viability evaluation were used to explore the potential difference. Western blotting was utilized to measure the levels of relevant proteins, and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT1) activities were quantified. Fold changes normalized to controls in levels of carnitine and several acylcarnitines were significantly different (p less then 0.05) between A549 cells treated with nab-paclitaxel and those treated with solvent-based paclitaxel. Relative to the controls, there were also significant fold change differences in palmitic and linoleic acid levels in the cell lysates, mitochondrial CPT1 activities, and mitochondrial medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD) protein levels in the A549 cells subjected to the nab-paclitaxel and solvent-based paclitaxel formulations. Results suggested that the two formulations differentially modulated fatty acid oxidation in the A549 cells. While cell viability results did not reveal significant differences, the findings implied that a mass spectrometry-based cell metabolomics approach could be a sensitive tool to explore the differences caused by formulation changes without using animals. Since uncertainties of products containing nanomaterials warrant holistic screening to address safety concerns, the aforementioned approach may be of regulatory importance and is worth further investigation.DNA binding investigations are critical for designing better pharmaceutical compounds since the binding of a compound to dsDNA in the minor groove is critical in drug discovery. Although only one in vitro study on the DNA binding mode of apigenin (APG) has been conducted, there have been no electrochemical and theoretical studies reported. We hereby report the mechanism of binding interaction of APG and a new class of sulfonamide-modified flavonoids, apigenin disulfonamide (ADSAM) and apigenin trisulfonamide (ATSAM), with deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). This study was conducted using multispectroscopic instrumentation techniques, which include UV-vis absorption, thermal denaturation, fluorescence, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and electrochemical and viscosity measurement methods. Also, molecular docking studies were conducted at room temperature under physiological conditions (pH 7.4). The molecular docking studies showed that, in all cases, the lowest energy docking poses bind to the minork provides new insights that could lead to the development of prospective drugs and vaccines.Although Cannabis sativa synthesizes a wide range of phytochemicals, much attention has been primarily given to two phytocannabinoids, Δ9-tetrahydocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), due to their distinctive activities in humans. These bioactivities can be further enhanced through the interaction of THC and CBD with other phytocannabinoids or non-phytocannabinoid chemicals, such as terpenes and flavonoids, a phenomenon that is termed the entourage effect. Flavonoid metabolism in C. sativa and the entourage effect are currently understudied. This mini-review examines recent advances in the biosynthesis and bioactivities of cannflavins, which are prenylated (C5) and geranylated (C10) flavones that are relatively unique to C. sativa. We also discuss the rapidly developing omics tools that enable discoveries in flavonoid metabolism in C. sativa and manipulation of flavonoid production through biotechnology. These advances set the stage for interrogating the health benefits of C. sativa flavonoids, deciphering the contribution of flavonoids to the entourage effect, and developing drugs.Mussel foot proteins (Mfps) contain a large amount of the catecholic amino acid, DOPA, allowing the marine organism to anchor themselves onto various surfaces in a turbulent and wet environment. Modification of polymers with catechol imparts these materials with a strong, wet adhesive property. The oxidation chemistry and oxidation state of catechol are critical to the design of synthetic adhesives and biomaterials. In this Mini-Review, the effect of catechol oxidation state on adhesion, oxidation-mediated catechol cross-linking, and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during catechol oxidation are reviewed. Finally, the tuning of catechol oxidation state in designing stimuli-responsive adhesives and the utilization of ROS byproducts for antimicrobial and antiviral applications are reviewed.Geopolymers are considered to be green materials with excellent fire resistance performance and potential substitutes for ordinary Portland cement (OPC). This review article focuses on the adhesion of geopolymer coatings subjected to elevated temperature. Their high adhesion strength is the basis for geopolymers being used as coating materials to work with the substrate. The adhesion strength is related to many factors, such as chemical composition of the raw materials, the formulation of the geopolymer, substrate type, surface roughness of the substrate, etc. The Si/Al ratio has different effects on compressive strength and bonding strength. The water content affects the polymerization process-the adhesion strength decreases with increasing water content. Careful tailoring of the mix ratio design is essential to make the geopolymer coating have excellent adhesive performance. These mix design factors include Si/Al ratio, Al/Na ratio, water content, precursor type, alkali cation type, curing conditions, etc.In the coming decades, increasing agricultural productivity is all-important. As the global population is growing rapidly and putting increased demand on food supply, poor soil quality, drought, flooding, increasing temperatures, and novel plant diseases are negatively impacting yields worldwide. One method to increase yields is plant health monitoring and rapid detection of disease, nutrient deficiencies, or drought. Monitoring plant health will allow for precise application of agrichemicals, fertilizers, and water in order to maximize yields. In vivo plant sensors are an emerging technology with the potential to increase agricultural productivity. In this mini-review, we discuss three major approaches of in vivo sensors for plant health monitoring, including genetic engineering, imaging and spectroscopy, and electrical.Protein degradation is a key component of the regulation of gene expression and is at the center of several pathogenic processes. Proteins are regularly degraded, but there is large variation in their lifetimes, and the kinetics of protein degradation are not well understood. Many different factors can influence protein degradation rates, painting a highly complex picture. This has been partially unravelled in recent years thanks to invaluable advances in proteomics techniques. link2 In this Mini-Review, we give a global vision of the determinants of protein degradation rates with the backdrop of the current understanding of proteolytic systems to give a contemporary view of the field."Smart" polymeric nanoformulations are evolving as a promising therapeutic, diagnostic paradigm. The polymeric nanovehicles demonstrated excellent capability to encapsulate theranostic cargos and their successful delivery in physiological conditions and even to monitor the therapeutic response. Currently, polymer nanogels (NGs) are established as capable carriers toward triggered delivery of diverse therapeutic and diagnostic agents. Notably, biodegradable and "intelligent" NGs constructed from intelligent polymers are highly beneficial because of their responsiveness toward endogenous as well as exogenous stimuli like pH gradients, bioresponsiveness, photoresponsiveness, temperature, and so on. In the past decade, plenty of multifunctional NGs with excellent targetability and sensitivity were reported for a wide range of theragnostic applications. This mini-review briefly propounds the synthesis strategies of "smart" NGs and summarizes the notable applications like delivery of genetic materials, anticancer agents, photodynamic/photothermal therapies, imaging, and biosensing. Herein, we have also addressed the current clinical status of NGs and the major challenges that are essential to overcome for the further advancement of NGs for specific applications. In recent years, shale oil/gas has become increasingly important in global energy. The natural pores of shale are mainly of micro-nano sizes and have the cross-scale characteristics, which makes the traditional method difficult and impractical in studying the seepage of shale. In order to obtain the characteristics of seepage of the crack-pore-throat system, the lattice Boltzmann method and dimensional analysis were used to study the seepage in an idealized crack-pore network. The influences of the geometric factors, including crack location, crack opening, and interval between two vertical neighbor throats and boundary conditions on the seepage were studied. The results show that the slip boundary conditions enhance the seepage rate. The enhancement with slip coefficients is nonuniform. The total flux is nearly equal when the crack is near either the inlet or outlet, but larger than that when the crack is located in the middle of the model. The flux ratio between the main throats when the crack is located near the outlet is the greatest. When the crack is near the outlet, the water channel is the largest possible while it is not easy to form when the crack is in the middle. With increase in the opening ratio of the crack-to-throat, the total flow of the system increases. The increase degree decreases with the increasing opening ratio. When the opening ratio is greater than 9, the increase in flux becomes very small. If the crack-pore-throat system is very uniform or even symmetric, the flow rate in the vertical throat/crack is very small. Hence, it is not beneficial to the gas/oil production and gas/oil displacement.Noise suppression is particularly important in low count positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Post-smoothing (PS) and regularization methods which aim to reduce noise also tend to reduce resolution and introduce bias. Alternatively, anatomical information from another modality such as magnetic resonance (MR) imaging can be used to improve image quality. link3 Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are particularly well suited to such joint image processing, but usually require large amounts of training data and have mostly been applied outside the field of medical imaging or focus on classification and segmentation, leaving PET image quality improvement relatively understudied. This article proposes the use of a relatively low-complexity CNN (micro-net) as a post-reconstruction MR-guided image processing step to reduce noise and reconstruction artefacts while also improving resolution in low count PET scans. The CNN is designed to be fully 3-D, robust to very limited amounts of training data, and to accept multiple inputs (including competitive denoising methods).
