d lack of services mainly in health and transport were major factors within the environment whilst personals factors included the lack of educational qualifications and skills. These results indicate the importance of consideration of contextual factors when developing intervention strategies aimed at facilitating the employment of persons with disabilities in LMICs.

Youth with disabilities are a marginalised group in society. This marginalisation traps them and prevents their full participation in social and economic development.

This study sought to understand how exposure to the Performing Arts facilitates the inclusion of youth with disabilities.

The study adopted a qualitative research approach, utilising critical ethnography. Primary data consisted of three focus group discussions with youth with disabilities, and an in-depth interview with a performer with disability. Thematic data analysis was conducted.

Four themes emerged. Theme 1,

, shares the experiences of youth who attended Artscape Theatre. Theme 2,

, describes their career aspirations. Theme 3,

, identifies the social and life skills learned through visited Artscape. Theme 4,

, presents the factors that influence the participation of youth with disabilities in the Performing Arts. While their experiences are diverse, and their impairments are unique, contact with the Performing Arts supported social and economic inclusion, and triggered empowerment of youth with disabilities. Insufficient accessible and available transportation is the most notable barrier to accessing development opportunities.

Exposure to the Performing Arts provides important skills development and social opportunities for disabled youth. It is up to the 'keepers' of the Performing Arts - those in administration and management - to realign the Performing Arts in a way that can best benefit everyone.

Households with a disabled member, be they a caregiver or a child, are poorer than households not affected by disability. Poverty, caregiving as a person with a disability and being the caregiver of a child with a disability can lead to increased parenting stress.

The objective of this study was to examine whether parenting stress experienced by caregivers in a household with a disabled member is greater when the disabled member is the caregiver, or the child, and how much of these respective relationships is explained by poverty.

We collected cross-sectional data using a demographic survey, the Washington Group Questions on adult disability, the 10 Questions on child disability and the Parenting Stress Index-Short Form, from 465 caregivers enrolled in a non-governmental child development programme in Kenya.

Households with a disabled member were poorer than households without a disabled member. Parenting stress of disabled caregivers was higher than parenting stress of non-disabled caregivers; however, this relationship disappeared when socio-economic status was controlled for. Caregivers of disabled children were more stressed than caregivers of non-disabled children, and this effect was not explained by differences in socio-economic status.

Our findings highlight the importance of developing a comprehensive understanding of the stressors facing households with a disabled member, particularly if that member is a child, so that supportive interventions can adequately cater to the needs of caregivers, and their children, in the context of poverty.

Recognition of molecular abnormalities in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) has improved our understanding of its biology.

and

ITD mutations are recurrent in AML and clinically significant.

mutations are associated with a favourable prognosis, while

ITD mutations are an independent poor prognostic factor in AML.

This study described the prevalence and molecular characteristics of the

and

ITD mutations in a newly diagnosed AML patient cohort in central South Africa.

The study included 40 de novo AML patients. An

and

ITD multiplex polymerase chain reaction assay was optimised to screen patients for the respective mutations and were confirmed using Sanger sequencing. The prevalence of the

and

ITD mutations were determined, and mutation-specific characteristics were described in relation to patients' demographic information and AML classifications.

The patients' median age was 38.5 years, with 77.5% (

= 31) of patients being self-proclaimed Black Africans. AML with recurrent genetic abnormalities was most prevalent (57.5%;

= 23), of which acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL) was most common (40.0%;

= 16). None of the patients had the

mutation.

ITD was present in 37.5% (6/16) of APL patients and in one (20.0%) of five AML patients with a t(8;21) translocation. read more Most patients had an

ITD allele ratio of ≥ 50% and ITD lengths of > 39 bp.

ITD mutations were mainly found in APL cases at a similar prevalence as reported in the literature. High

ITD allele ratios and long ITD lengths predominated. No

mutations were detected.

FLT3-ITD mutations were mainly found in APL cases at a similar prevalence as reported in the literature. High FLT3-ITD allele ratios and long ITD lengths predominated. No NPM1 mutations were detected.Japan is currently suffering the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the dominant type being SARS-CoV-2 alpha variant. Patients with COVID-19 variant types show more aggressive symptoms. In the present study, three patients developed a red face during treatment. Two of them suddenly worsened shortly after. We assumed that the red face reflected a cytokine storm and conjectured that it may be a specific sign of variant type COVID-19, because we have never seen it in patients with non-variant type. Moreover, we believe that red face may be predictive of a sudden deterioration.
