This study describes public sector providers' experiences with implant and IUD removals in two districts of Senegal. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study with providers trained to insert implants and IUDs from all public facilities offering long-acting reversible contraceptives. Data collection elements included a survey with 55 providers and in-depth interviews (IDIs) with eight other providers. We performed descriptive analysis of survey responses and analyzed qualitative data thematically. Results Nearly all providers surveyed were trained in both implant and IUD insertion and removal; 42% had received training in the last two years. Over 90% of providers felt confident inserting and removing implants and removing IUDs; 15% were not confident removing non-palpable implants and 27% IUDs with non-visible strings. In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) proposed a goal to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030, and in 2018, the National Health Commission of China launched Hepatitis C Elimination Action by 2030. Hepatitis C control and prevention has made significant progress in China in recent years. To implement the "Healthy China 2030" plan and the Healthy China Initiative (2019-2030), and to contribute to the global target of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030, the National Health Commission of China and eight other government departments jointly issued the National Action Plan for Eliminating Hepatitis C as a Public Health Threat (2021-2030) (hereinafter referred to as the "National Plan") in 2021. The National Plan has an overarching goal and 15 specific targets that cover health education, comprehensive prevention interventions, testing and treatment, and capacity building. The National Plan introduces key tasks and strategies of "five strengthenings, one expanding, and one implementation," i.e., strengthening health education, comprehensive prevention, referral and treatment, drug supply, and information management; expanding testing; and implementing relevant medical insurance policies. The National Plan also proposes key guaranteeing measures of "four intensifications and one mobilization," i.e., intensification of organizational leadership, capacity building, scientific research and international cooperation, and supervision and fulfillment; mobilization of social participation. The National Plan is an important component of the Healthy China initiative, adhering to the integration of treatment and prevention and deepening the "integration of medical treatment, medical insurance, and medicine supplies." In this review, we describe the National Plan and discuss its challenges and prospects.
Herpes zoster (shingles) is a common skin condition in older adults, which usually presents as a painful rash with blisters. Vaccination is the most effective method to prevent shingles. However, there is not sufficient population-based epidemiological data in China to optimize the timing of zoster vaccination.
Clustering analyses of population-wide epidemiological data from the Healthcare Big Data Platform in Yichang, China showed that the average annual zoster incidence is the highest among people 55 years or older, at 10 cases per thousand persons per year, making this age group the optimal target population for vaccination. Incidence was lower but increased with age among younger adults, 28-54 years old.
With limited vaccination resources, zoster vaccinations should be targeted at adults 55 years or older who are at the greatest risk for shingles. Research should be conducted to understand the risk of shingles among young and middle-aged adults and identify triggers of shingles potentially leading to preventive measures.

Previous studies on electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use in China among secondary school students have provided information on the awareness and usage of e-cigarettes.
This study not only described e-cigarette usage rates, but also explored the characteristics of e-cigarette users' behavior and factors associated with the current use of e-cigarettes among secondary school students.
E-cigarette use among secondary school students, especially among vocational senior high school students, requires more attention. Although some policies have been developed to protect youths from the harmful effects of e-cigarettes, enforcement of these policies needs to be strengthened.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is one of the most easily available health indicative markers for cardiovascular diseases, and it has become a major public health problem worldwide due to increasing urbanization and aging populations. The prevalence of MetS increased dramatically in China, however, there are no records of MetS defined by the 2017 Chinese Diabetes Society for Beijing by far.
In this study, the data of 24,412 participants aged 18-74 years from a large population-based study in Beijing was collected. The overall prevalence of MetS among Beijing residents was 24.5%. The prevalence was 35.2% in males and 15.4% in females.
Effective public health strategies should target males, people with older age, lower education, higher body mass index, smokers, those who drink alcohol, those who are unemployed or retired, and those who live in rural areas on MetS prevention and control.

However the risk of peripheral artery disease (PAD) and stroke in migraineurs and the association between migraineurs with or without aura is still under debate. Our study aimed to identify the risk of PAD and stroke in migraineurs with or without aura. Methods This was a population-based cohort study utilizing Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Database (LHID2010). Patients with coding of migraine from 2002 to 2011 were enrolled and those with established cardiovascular disease defined as myocardial infarction, stroke, PAD, venous thromboembolism, atrial fibrillation and heart failure diagnosis before the index date were excluded. Participants were categorized into migraine group, migraine without aura group, and migraine with aura group respectively. The subjects in the three groups were propensity score-matched randomlificance (aHR 1.95, 95% CI 0.86-4.40; p = 0.108). Conclusion Migraineurs without established cardiovascular disease had a significantly increased risk of PAD and stroke, and the risk of stroke persists in migraineurs with or without aura, with an increased trend of PAD in migraineurs with aura. Our study result should remind clinical physicians of the risk of PAD in the future among migraineurs even without established cardiovascular disease currently, and screening for PAD and stroke may be needed in caring patients with migraine.Glioblastoma multiform (GBM) is a highly aggressive primary brain tumor. Exosomes derived from glioma cells under a hypoxic microenvironment play an important role in tumor biology including metastasis, angiogenesis and chemoresistance. However, the underlying mechanisms remain to be elucidated. In this study, we aimed to explore the role of connexin 43 on exosomal uptake and angiogenesis in glioma under hypoxia. U251 cells were exposed to 3% oxygen to achieve hypoxia, and the expression levels of HIF-1α and Cx43, involved in the colony formation and proliferation of cells were assessed. Exosomes were isolated by differential velocity centrifugation from U251 cells under normoxia and hypoxia (Nor-Exos and Hypo-Exos), respectively. Immunofluorescence staining, along with assays for CCK-8, tube formation and wound healing along with a transwell assay were conducted to profile exosomal uptake, proliferation, tube formation, migration and invasion of HUVECs, respectively. Our results revealed that Hypoxia significantly up-regulated the expression of HIF-1α in U251 cells as well as promoting proliferation and colony number. Hypoxia also increased the level of Cx43 in U251 cells and in the exosomes secreted. The uptake of Dio-stained Hypo-Exos by HUVECs was greater than that of Nor-Exos, and inhibition of Cx43 by 37,43gap27 or lenti-Cx43-shRNA efficiently prevented the uptake of Hypo-Exos by recipient endothelial cells. In addition, the proliferation and total loops of HUVECs were remarkably increased at 24 h, 48 h, and 10 h after Hypo-Exos, respectively. Notably, 37,43gap27, a specific Cx-mimetic peptide blocker of Cx37 and Cx43, efficiently alleviated Hypo-Exos-induced proliferation and tube formation by HUVECs. Finally, 37,43gap27 also significantly attenuated Hypo-Exos-induced migration and invasion of HUVECs. These findings demonstrate that exosomal Cx43 contributes to glioma angiogenesis mediated by Hypo-Exos, and suggests that exosomal Cx43 might serve as a potential therapeutic target for glioblastoma.Backgrounds The immunonutritional index showed great potential for predicting postoperative complications in various malignant diseases, while risk assessment based on machine learning (ML) methods is becoming popular in clinical practice. Early detection and prevention for postoperative anastomotic leakage (AL) play an important role in prognosis improvement among patients with gastric cancer (GC). Methods This retrospective study included 297 patients with gastric cancer receiving gastrectomy between 2018 and 2021 in general surgery department of Xinhua Hospital. Perioperative clinical variables were collected to evaluate the predictive value for postoperative AL with 5 ML models. Then, AUROC was applied to identify the optimal perioperative clinical index and ML model for predicting postoperative AL. Results The incidence of postoperative AL was 6.1% (n=18). After the training of 5 ML classification models, we found that immunonutritional index had significantly better classification ability than inflammatory or nutritional index alone separately (AUROC=0.
