Regional lymph node metastasis (RLNM) has been reported to be a prognostic factor for poor survival outcomes of bone sarcoma. However, studies about risk factors for RLNM of bone sarcoma are extremely rare, and the outcome of such patients remains to be explored. We aimed to identify risk factors for RLNM of bone sarcoma and conduct survival analysis for patients with bone sarcoma with RLNM.

A total of 10,641 patients confirmed of malignant bone sarcomas from 1983 to 2014 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, with 311 being regional lymph node positive. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify risk factors for RLNM, while the Cox proportional hazards model and the Fine and Gray's regression model were used for survival analysis.

The proportion of RLNM was 6.0% in Ewing sarcoma, 2.5% in osteosarcoma and 1.1% in chondrosarcoma. Other bone tumors together had a RLNM rate of 4.2%. Risk factors identified by the logistic regression analysis for RLNM wey treatment are prognostic factors for the outcome of patients with bone sarcoma.

Radiotherapy is the standard therapeutic approach for non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLCs). However, radiotherapy resistance accounts for major treatment failures in NSCLC patients. Recently, targeting autophagy-related signaling has shown potential to improve radiotherapy. Furthermore, some studies have reported that caveolin-1 (Cav1), a primary scaffolding protein of caveolae, is positively associated with NSCLC progression and cell autophagy. However, the function of Cav1-mediated autophagy in NSCLC radioresistance remains largely unknown.

Cav1 was significantly overexpressed in H358-IRR and A549-rapeutic target for improving the radiosensitivity of NSCLC.

The results of our study showed that Cav1 is involved in the development of IR resistance in NSCLC through IRGM-regulated autophagy and can be considered as a potential therapeutic target for improving the radiosensitivity of NSCLC.

Protracted bacterial bronchitis (PBB) is a common cause of chronic wet cough in children. However, it is often misdiagnosed and inappropriately treated in clinical practices. This study aims to investigate the current diagnosis and management of PBB among Chinese pediatricians.

An electronic questionnaire designed to assess the diagnosis and management of PBB was sent to pediatricians in China.

A total of 1,022 pediatricians completed the questionnaire. Most (68.8%) of the pediatricians diagnosed PBB in compliance with the guidelines, 44.3% and 24.5% of them followed microbiology-based and clinical-based diagnosis criteria, respectively. Only 40.4% of the pediatricians chose amoxicillin-clavulanate as the first-line antibiotic for PBB treatment, 23.7% and 23.5% of them chose third-generation cephalosporins and macrolides, respectively. The majority of pediatricians (75.4%) reported 2-4 weeks of antibiotics course, 19.3% of them prescribed a shorter course and 5% of them selected a longer course. Only 26.3% of the pediatricians performed combined investigations of chest high-resolution computed tomography scan (c-HRCT), bronchoscopy, and immunological tests for recurrences of PBB. Compared with general pediatricians (GP), pediatric pulmonologists (PP) preferred microbiology-based diagnosis criteria, prescribed more amoxicillin-clavulanate, and performed more investigations for recurrent patients (P<0.05).

Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common types of cancer and the emerging resistance to androgen deprivation therapy in PCa aggravates disease progression. In this study, we examined the potential pro-tumorigenic functions of NANOGP8 in prostate cancer development.

Quantitative RT-PCR confirmed higher NANOGP8 expression in androgen independent tumors, as well as a recurrent prostate tumor in patient samples. We then established a novel two-way inducible NANOGP8-short hairpin RNA experimental system, in which the NANOGP8 expression was transiently induced by adding doxycycline in the diet of NOD/SCID mice.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is spreading rapidly across countries and has infected tens of millions of people all over the world. So far, the pandemic is ongoing globally, and the situation is still worsening.

In this retrospective, single-center cohort analysis, we included 25 adult inpatients with laboratory confirmed COVID-19 disease from the affiliated hospital of Xuzhou Medical University (Xuzhou, China). Epidemiological characterizations, clinical findings, and medical treatments were all reported. In addition, laboratory markers were investigated in terms of course of treatment.

Epidemiological features and clinical findings were present for all 25 patients. Laboratory markers were identified due to temporal changes. After medical treatment, all patients were discharged home and recovering from the infection.

This study aimed to predict the treatment outcomes in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) after 3 monthly anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injections using machine learning (ML) based on pretreatment optical coherence tomography (OCT) images and clinical variables.

An ensemble ML system consisting of four deep learning (DL) models and five classical machine learning (CML) models was developed to predict the posttreatment central foveal thickness (CFT) and the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA). A total of 363 OCT images and 7,587 clinical data records from 363 eyes were included in the training set (304 eyes) and external validation set (59 eyes). The DL models were trained using the OCT images, and the CML models were trained using the OCT images features and clinical variables. We performed LPA1 co-immunoprecipitation combined with mass spectrometry to search for LPA1-associated proteins. The role of CMTM8 in mediating the pro-invasive activity of LPA was investigated in pancreatic cancer.

We identified CMTM8 as an LPA1-interacting protein. LPA1 and CMTM8 were co-localized in pancreatic cancer cells. LPA treatment led to stabilization of CMTM8 protein, which was impaired by knockdown of LPA1. Depletion of CMTM8 significantly suppressed the migration and invasion of pancreatic cancer cells. Conversely, ectopic expression of CMTM8 enhanced the migratory and invasive capacity of pancreatic cancer cells. CMTM8 depletion blocked the formation of metastatic lesions in the lung. Knockdown of CMTM8 attenuated LPA-induced migration and invasion in pancreatic cancer cells. CMTM8 overexpression stimulated β-catenin activation through reduction of GSK3β.
