Objective To analyze the pathological classification and age distribution of primary neoplasms of the lacrimal drainage system. Methods Retrospective case series study. A total of 64 patients (65 eyes) were diagnosed with primary neoplasms of the lacrimal drainage system and received surgery at Tianjin Eye Hospital from January 2006 to December 2016. All the clinical data of the patients were analyzed, including gender, diseased eye, age, clinical manifestations, composition of benign and malignant masses, and prognosis. The histopathological composition and age distribution of patients with primary lacrimal mass, lacrimal duct mass and lacrimal sac mass were analyzed according to the different diseased sites. Results Twenty-three patients (24 eyes) were male, and 41 patients (41 eyes) were female. The right eye was involved in 36 patients, the left eye in 27 patients, and both eyes in one patient. The age at diagnosis ranged from 12 to 78 years old [mean, (46±4) years]. The course of disease was (13.1±4.2) mPrimary peripunctal neoplasms are mostly characterized with benign lesions, among which nevi are most common. Mucous epithelial cysts, epidermoid cysts, and dermoid cysts are the major benign lacrimal sac neoplasms. Squamous cell carcinomas are the most common malignant lacrimal sac neoplasms. The malignant tumor of lacrimal sac often occurs in the middle-aged and elderly patients. Methods Experiment research. The total RNAs of the differentiated lenses were extracted and purified. Total RNAs of 16-week, 23-week, and 25-week differentiated lenses were then sequenced using Illumina HiSeq 2500, and analyzed using bioinformatics tools. The top expressed and differentially expressed mRNAs and lncRNAs were screened. The expressions of overlap genes among the 16-week, 23-week, and 25-week lenses were analyzed by Venn diagram. The expression tendency of lens-specific genes was obtained and verified with real-time polymerase chain reaction. Results A total of 67 518 311 mapped reads were obtained from differentiated lenses at 16 weeks, 99 440 160 at 23 weeks, and 67 262 320 at 25 weeks. The gene overlap expression analysis showed 740 of the top 1 000 highly expressed mRNAs, 170 of the top 300 highly expressed lncRNAs, and 69 of the top 100 highly expressed circRNAs overlapping expressed in lenses at 16, 23, and 25 weeks, respectively. Lens specific gene expression analysis revealed that the expression of crystallin (CRY) AA, CRYGA, CRYGB, CRYGC, CRYGD, CRYGEP, and CRYGS was upregulated, while the expression of gap junction (GJ) A3 and GJA8 was downregulated with the differentiation of lenses. Conclusion The lens transcriptome profile shows that more than half of the high expressed mRNA, lncRNA and circRNA at different differentiation stages are overlapping expressed, and all of them have high expression of lens specific protein genes, such as CRY, GJ etc. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2020, 56 356-363).Objective To investigate the relationship between corneal astigmatism and age, axial length (AL) in age-related cataract patients over 50 years old. Methods In this retrospective study, 1 906 eyes of 953 patients with age-related cataract were diagnosed from February 2016 to August 2016 atPeking University People's Hospital, and their demographics, preoperative AL, magnitude and meridian of the corneal astigmatism measured by IOL Master were collected. Restricted cubic splines and Spearman rank correlation coefficients were used to investigate the relationship of the magnitude of cornea astigmatism to age. Chi-square test was used to assess the relationship of the meridian of astigmatism to age, AL and the magnitude of cornea astigmatism. Results The patients were 410 men and 543 women. The corneal astigmatism was with-the-rule (WTR) in 570 eyes (29.91%), against-the-rule (ATR) in 1 005 eyes (52.73%) and oblique in 331 eyes (17.37%). The mean age was (72±9) years old. The medians (min, max) of AL and corneal atism ≥0.75 D before cataract surgery. When the AL is between 22.00 mm and 25.99 mm, the magnitude of corneal astigmatism increases with age among people over 65 years old, especially the magnitude of ATR corneal astigmatism, while the magnitude of WTR corneal astigmatism has no obvious increase with age. The percentage of ATR astigmatism increases while the percentage of WTR astigmatism decreases with age. Methods It was a retrospective case series study. Forty-three eyes of 28 children underwent posterior continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis with posterior chamber intraocular lens optic capture to treat cataract from June 2017 to October 2018 in Qingdao Eye Hospital. Postoperative best corrected visual acuity, diopters, intraocular pressure, the position of intraocular lens, and postoperative complications were assessed. The distribution of preoperative and postoperative best corrected visual acuity was analyzed by Fisher's exact probability test. Results Twenty-eight patients were 14 females and 14 males aged from 2 years old to 12 years old [mean age, (7±4) years]. All intraocular lenses were successfully captured in the posterior capsule. Patients were followed-up for 6.0 to 12.0 months (mean, 8.4 months). Except 2 eyes from one0, 56 343-348).Since the advent of intraocular lenses (IOL), the accuracy of IOL measurements has been paid much attention. selleck chemicals llc With the continuous development of eye biometric equipment and the diversification of IOL power calculation formulas, the precision of IOL power calculation has increased, the function of IOL has improved, and refractive cataract surgery has become popular. However, there is an excessive pursuit of the emmetropization of postoperative refraction after cataract surgery in order to demonstrate the accuracy of IOL measurements, and postoperative emmetropization may cause visual discomfort in some patients with preoperative myopia. This phenomenon is worthy of concern. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2020, 56 333-336).
