The demonstration, showcase, and city studies of autonomous vehicles (AVs) provide valuable opportunities for the public to interact with AV. Understanding the relationship between experiencing and intention to use AV is crucial because first-hand experience shapes an individual's initial impressions on autonomous driving. This study investigated the users' intention to use AVs based on extended theory of planned behavior, which incorporated experience satisfaction and trust. The data were collected through a field experiment from 117 respondents who had experienced a SAE Level 4 autonomous minibus in China. The proposed relationships were examined using partial least squares structural equation modelling. A satisfied experience contributes to a higher degree of trust, attitude, subjective norm (SN), and perceived behavioral control (PBC). Excluding SN, results suggest that attitude, PBC, experience satisfaction, and trust, are statistically proven to affect the intention to use AV. Moreover, an examination of individual difference reflects that the impact of experience satisfaction on PBC varies distinctively in male and female group, as well as in less educated and more educated group. Findings show the theoretical contributions and practical implications on the role of initial experience of AV acceptance.
Use of chloramphenicol or its veterinary analogue florfenicol can selectively favour antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Understanding how resistance is mobilised and disseminated among pathogens is vital in knowing how different bacterial taxa might serve as reservoirs of these genes for pathogenic bacteria.
Bacterial isolates (n=30) were selected on the basis of multidrug resistance and resistance to florfenicol from among 296 bacteria originally isolated from drinking water distribution systems in Southwestern Nigeria. Bacterial identification, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) determination for florfenicol, PCR detection of florfenicol resistance genes (floR, fexA and cfx) and sequence analysis were employed to characterise the isolates.
According to sequence data (16S rDNA, v2-v3 region), 30strains were selected, includingPseudomonas spp. (43.3%), Serratia spp. (13.3%), Proteus spp. (26.7%), Acinetobacter spp. (13.3%) and Providencia rettgeri (3.3%). MICs ranged between >16μg/mL and >1024μg/mtems in Nigeria. Further work is needed to determine whether human and veterinary antibiotic use practices in Nigeria are contributing to proliferation of this important antibiotic resistance trait and to determine whether the presence of floR-producing strains is compromising human and animal health.
The aim of this study was to correlate the results of a modified susceptibility testing method with outcomes of ceftazidime/avibactam (CAZ/AVI) therapy.
Two bloodstream K. pneumoniae isolates (CAZ/AVI-susceptible) from an abdominal source were recovered from two unrelated patients. Both patients were treated with CAZ/AVI but had discordant outcomes KP118 (eradication within 24 h) and KP286 (persistent bacteraemia for over 30 days). Carbapenemase production in the two isolates was confirmed by Carba NP test. The CAZ minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined with escalating AVI concentrations (0-16 mg/L). The concentration-response was characterised by the sigmoid inhibitory maximum effect model. The best-fit parameter values were used to predict %T > MICi associated with CAZ/AVI exposures expected in peritoneal fluid after standard dosing (2.5 g every 8 h). These CAZ/AVI exposures were simulated in a hollow-fibre infection model (HFIM), and the bacterial responses were correlated with observed clinical outcomes.
The AVI-dependent reduction in CAZ MIC was well characterised in both bacterial isolates (r
≥ 0.98). In the HFIM, sustained suppression of KP118 (T > MICi = 100%) was observed over 5 days, but not with KP286 (T > MICi < 100%). These observations are consistent with the clinical course of the patients.
The discordant patient outcomes could be potentially explained by MIC profiling of CAZ/AVI. This method appears to be more robust than conventional susceptibility testing in predicting positive clinical outcome of CAZ/AVI therapy, and the clinical utility of this approach should be further investigated.

The present study aimed to estimate the short-term effects of six criteria air pollutants including PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2, CO and O3 on respiratory admissions in Lanzhou, China, then compare the results of our study with those earlier studies conducted in Lanzhou before the implementation of air pollution control measures. Data on daily hospital admissions from the three largest hospitals in Lanzhou and daily air pollution concentration and meteorological variable were collected during a 4-year period (2014-2017). A generalized additive model; adjusted for long-term trend, seasonality, and other potential confounders was done to quantitatively assess the influences of air pollutants on daily respiratory admissions and analyze the influences of different seasons, sexes, and age groups. CC-90011 concentration The most apparent effects for PM2.5, PM10, SO2, CO and O3 on respiratory hospitalizations were observed at lag6, and lag7, respectively, and a 10μg/m3 increase in PM2.5, PM10, SO2, CO and O3 concentration were associated with 0.885% (95%CI 0.414%~1.358%), 0.328% (95%CI 0.145%~0.511%), 3.005% (95%CI 1.689%~4.339%), 3.199% (95%CI 0.912%~5.537%) for CO, 0.733% (95%Cl 0.263%~1.205%) increase in respiratory admission, respectively. No remarkable association was found between NO2 and respiratory disease hospitalisation. Females and younger groups were more susceptible to air pollutant than males and elderly groups. Together, we demonstrated that the positive associations were more pronounced in the cold season than in the warm season. The findings in present study suggest that even in Lanzhou, where air quality has been improved dramatically, positive associations still exist between air pollution and daily number of total respiratory admission.
