Adults with a low physical activity (PA) level are at increased risk for cardiometabolic diseases, but little is known on the association between physical inactivity since youth and cardiometabolic health in adulthood. We investigated the association of persistent physical inactivity from youth to adulthood with adult cardiometabolic risk factors. Data were drawn from the ongoing Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study with seven follow-ups between 1980 and 2011 (baseline age 3-18 years, n = 1961). Physical activity data from a standardized questionnaire was expressed as a PA-index. Using the PA-index, four groups were formed 1)persistently physically inactive (n = 246), 2)decreasingly active (n = 305), 3)increasingly active (n = 328), and 4)persistently active individuals (n = 1082). Adulthood cardiometabolic risk indicators included waist circumference, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, and fasting lipids, insulin, and glucose. Clustered cardiometabolic risk was defined using established criteria for crease in PA lowers the cardiometabolic risk. The prevalent respiratory viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 probably persist for a long time on fomites and environmental surfaces. Some recent studies have detected SARS-CoV-2 RNA on the surface of cell phones, door handles and other items in the inhabited sites of confirmed cases. For the aim of this study, a total of 50 environmental surface samples of SARS-CoV-2 was collected from Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ardabil. Forty-one environmental surface samples were proved negative for SARS-CoV-2 RNA while nine surface samples were positive. Our findings regarding surfaces contaminated with the virus are consistent with the results of recent similar researches as it was revealed that a number of different samples taken from hospital surfaces such as handles, cupboards, light switches, and door handles were positive for the presence of SARS-Cov-2.Sewage sludge is one of the sinks for PAHs accumulation and concerns are growing regarding the environmental risk of the discharge of PAHs in waste activated sludge (WAS) as a major byproduct of sewage treatment. Here, we evaluated the effectiveness of ozone treatment to eliminate the 16 priority PAHs in WAS. The PAHs removal efficiency increased with ozone dosage and was strongly pH dependent. Even at ozone dosage of 40 mg O3·g-1, the PAHs removal efficiency at pH 9.0 (44.5%) was significantly higher than that observed at pH 5.0 and 200 mg O3·g-1 (41.7%). The pH-dependent elimination behavior of PAHs was attributed to the varying yield of hydroxyl radicals (OH) and degree of sludge disintegration (R2 = 0.88-0.92). Over 96% of the PAHs were in the particulate flocs (PF) phase, while the fraction bound to the freely dissolved (FS) and dissolved and colloidal (DC) matters was negligible, indicating the need of WAS disintegration during ozonation to make PAHs more accessible to O3 molecules and OH to initiate oxidation reactions. Linsitinib manufacturer Failure of the three-compartment model to describe the PAHs sorption behavior in sludge matrix during ozonation implied that oxidation reaction occurred simultaneously with the partitioning of PAHs from PS to DC/FS fraction. Lastly, the results of the intermittent ozonation experiment demonstrated the interference of soluble organic compounds during PAHs degradation, particularly proteins and humic substances, as O3 and OH scavengers. At ozone dosage of 120 mg O3·g-1 (pH 9.0), the PAHs removal efficiency was improved by 19.5% by intermittent ozonation, as compared to continuous ozonation under the same conditions. The alterations of nitrogen sources and cycling within the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) and downstream the Changjiang were investigated to understand the impacts of the construction of the Three Gorges Dam (TGD) and anthropogenic inputs from the associated watershed. Water samples collected in October 2016 were analyzed for hydrologic parameters, nutrient concentrations, and stable isotopes of nitrate (NO3-), ammonium (NH4+) and particulate matter. Nitrate dual stable isotope values ranged from +5.8‰ to +7.1‰ and -1.9‰ to +0.4‰ for δ15N and δ18O, respectively. δ15N values in particulate nitrogen (PN) ranged from +0.5‰ to +8.5‰, with slightly lower values before the dam. δ15N-NH4+ values ranged between +10.5‰ and +19.4‰, likely reflecting the presence of ammonium assimilation throughout the TGR. The contribution of different nitrogen sources was calculated using a Bayesian mixing model. These sources, including soil organic nitrogen, ammonium fertilizer, and sewage effluent, contributed to elevated DIN concentrations within the TGR (83.2 μM-178.5 μM). The construction of the dam has also likely induced changes in the river environment such as ammonium assimilation in the surface waters and nitrification and/or remineralization within the deep waters of the TGR. Overall, during this investigation period, the TGR acted as a sink of PN (retaining 29%), yet negligibly influenced levels of TDN with ~96.5% of TDN exported to the downstream Changjiang and estuary. It is important to understand the long-term impacts of the TGD on the ecological environment of the Changjiang. This study highlights the influence that anthropogenic nitrogen sources have on the natural biogeochemical cycling within the TGR, showing the urgent need to reduce anthropogenic nitrogen pollution.Sludge dewatering is a matter of great concern to reduce the volume of sludge, stabilize its organic components, and achieve resource utilization. This study investigates sludge dewatering by microwave torrefaction along with the production of sludge solid biofuel at 480-800 W combined with durations of 5-25 min. Proximate analysis, calorific value analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy observations are employed to evaluate the dewatering degree, fuel properties, and energy efficiency of the torrefaction process. The independent parallel reaction (IPR) model and particle swarm optimization (PSO) analysis are also adopted for sludge pyrolysis kinetics calculation. The results show that microwave torrefaction is efficient for sludge dewatering with a short duration. The produced sludge solid biofuel is similar to stone-like coal, and can be used for civil or industrial boilers after flotation or just co-firing with briquette. The ash content of sludge solid biofuel shows a declining trend and the surface characteristics change from smooth to rough and fluffy with increasing the torrefaction severity.
