AstraZeneca coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccinations have recently been implicated in thromboembolism formations. Our aim was to investigate the outcomes of patients with thromboembolic events following the AstraZeneca vaccine (ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, AZD1222). A literature search was performed from December 2019 to September 2021. Eligible studies must report participants older than 18 years vaccinated with AstraZeneca and outcomes of thromboembolic events. Pooled mean or proportion were analyzed using a random-effects model. A total of 45 unique studies (number of patients = 144, 64.6% women, mean age 21-68 years) were included. The most common presenting adverse events were headache (12.1%), intracerebral hemorrhage (7.5%), and hemiparesis (7%). The most common thromboembolic adverse events were cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (38.5%) and deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolism (21.1%). The most common radiologic finding were intracerebral hemorrhage and cerebral venous thrombosis. Laboratory findings included thrombocytopenia (75%) and hypofibrinogenemia (41%). On admission, 64 patients tested positive for PF4-Heparin ELISA assay (80%). Seventy-four patients were hospitalized with 22 being admitted to the ICU. A total of 78 patients recovered while 39 patients died. This meta-analysis presents evidence to suggest vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) following AstraZeneca vaccine. Clinical practice must, therefore, account for the possibility of VITT and subsequent embolic events in certain individuals' postvaccination with adenovirus-based COVID-19 vaccines. Serum anti-PF4 suggests diagnostic value for VITT and could subsequently inform treatment choices in such instances.Congenital factor (F) XIII deficiency is a rare coagulation factor deficiency that is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. FXIII deficiency presents various clinical manifestations, such as intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), which is the most common cause of morbidity and mortality. As ICH can occur in the neonatal period, prenatal diagnosis (PND) is an effective way to reduce neonatal ICH and its associated fatal consequences. In this study, we investigated a noninvasive prenatal diagnosis (NIPD) method, cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA), for PND in FXIII deficiency. This study was conducted on seven pregnant women in the first trimester. After extraction of cffDNA from maternal plasma, PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was performed to find the underlying F13A gene mutations previously identified in the family members. PCR-RFLP was also performed on postnatal DNA samples. Sanger sequencing was performed to confirm the results. Four cases were heterozygous for F13A gene mutations, whereas three were unaffected. PCR- RFLP results for cffDNA and postnatal DNA samples were identical, and Sanger sequencing confirmed the results. cffDNA is a noninvasive and effective method for PND in congenital FXIII deficiency.
Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) can affect patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), but many questions remain open about its very variable incidence across the world, the actual link between the viral infection and the fungal superinfection, the significance of Aspergillus recovery in a respiratory sample, and the management of such cases. This review addresses these questions and aims at providing some clues for the practical diagnostic and therapeutic approaches of COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA) in a clinical perspective.
Definitions have been proposed for possible/probable/proven CAPA, but distinction between colonization and invasive fungal infection is difficult and not possible in most cases in the absence of histopathological proof or positive galactomannan in serum. Most importantly, the recovery of an Aspergillus by a direct (culture, PCR) or indirect (galactomannan) test in a respiratory sample is an indicator of worse outcome, which justifies a screening for early detection and initiation of preemptive antifungal therapy in such cases.
The COVID-19 pandemic has increased our awareness of IPA among ICU patients. Although current recommendations are mainly based on experts' opinions, prospective studies are needed to get more evidence-based support for the diagnostic approach and management of CAPA.

Here, we present 11 cases of T-PCNSL in immunocompetent individuals from a single institute, focusing on their genetic alterations. Seven cases were subject to targeted panel sequencing covering 120 lymphoma-related genes. Nine of the eleven cases were classified as peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS), of which one was of γδT-cell lineage. There was one case of anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma and another of extranodal natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) of αβT-cell lineage. Rapamycin The male to female ratio was 7 4 and the age ranged from 3 to 75 years (median, 61 y). Most patients presented with neurological deficits (n=10) and showed multifocal lesions (n=9) and deep brain structure involvement (n=9). Tumor cells were mostly small-to-medium, and T-cell monoclonality was detected in all nineCNSL. Moreover, this study demonstrates genetic alterations with potential diagnostic and therapeutic utility in T-PCNSL.
Periodontitis progresses with chronic inflammation, without periodontal pain. However, the underlying mechanisms are not well known. Here, the involvement of butyric acid (BA) in periodontal pain sensitivity in Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis)-induced periodontitis was examined.
P. gingivalis was inoculated into the ligature which was tied around the molar (P. gingivalis-L) and the gingival mechanical head withdrawal threshold (MHWT) was measured. Following P. gingivalis-L, the expressions of orphan G protein-coupled receptor 41 (GPR41) in trigeminal ganglion (TG) neurons were examined. The amount of gingival BA was analyzed following the P. gingivalis-L and the changes in the MHWT in complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)-injected gingival tissue by gingival BA were examined. The changes in the MHWT following P. gingivalis-L by gingival GPR41 antagonist (HA) were examined.
No change in the MHWT was observed, GPR41-immunoreactive TG neurons were increased following P. gingivalis-L. The gingival BA amount increased following P. gingivalis-L, and the gingival BA suppressed the decrease in MHWT following CFA. HA decreased MHWT following P. gingivalis-L.
Gingival BA modulates periodontal mechanical nociception via GPR41 signaling in P. gingivalis-L-induced periodontitis.

The aim of this study was to use dye penetration to measure apical and coronal leakage simultaneously in single-canal teeth that had been treated endodontically using a single-cone obturation technique.
One hundred single-canal, extracted human teeth were cleaned and shaped with ProTaper NEXT rotary files to size-X5 (50/.06), then randomly assigned to five sealer groups for single-cone gutta-percha obturation. The teeth were soaked in 0.6% rhodamine B at 37°C for seven days, then the roots were ground mesiodistally and the maximum apical and coronal dye penetration was measured. Differences in leakage among the sealer groups were examined using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Pairwise comparisons were made using the Mann-Whitney test with Bonferroni correction.
The mean values (mm) of dye penetration for AH Plus, Pulp Canal Sealer, NeoSEALER Flo, EndoSequence BC, and Super-Bond RC Sealer were 0.200, 0.300, 0.675, 0.850, and 0.900 apically, whereas 1.675, 2.075, 4.800, 6.500, and 4.125 coronally. Pairwise comparisons showed significant apical differences between AH Plus/Super-Bond RC Sealer (P = 0.047) and significant coronal differences between AH Plus/NeoSEALER Flo (P = 0.001), AH Plus/EndoSequence BC (P < 0.01), AH Plus/Super-Bond RC Sealer (P < 0.01), Pulp Canal Sealer/NeoSEALER Flo (P = 0.010), Pulp Canal Sealer/EndoSequence BC (P < 0.01), and Pulp Canal Sealer/Super-Bond RC Sealer (P < 0.01).
Coronal leakage was worse than apical leakage for all sealers. AH Plus exhibited the least leakage apically and coronally; Super-Bond RC Sealer showed the most leakage apically, and EndoSequence BC showed the most leakage coronally.

The aim of this pilot study was to clarify the acceptability and clinical efficacy of an oxygen-enriched oil-based gel for treatment of angular cheilitis.
A class IIb medical preparation, packaged in appropriate syringes, was tested. Patients were instructed how to use the gel for 10 days finger rub application (3 times daily) on the dried lesion after meals, without eating, drinking, or speaking for at least 30 min thereafter. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to assess whether there were any differences in the distributions of reported pain and lesion dimension. A microbiological examination was also performed with oral swabs; chi-squared test was used to compare the difference in the presence of microorganisms before and after treatment.
Thirty patients were treated. A significant improvement in reported outcome and a significant reduction in the initially measured largest dimension of the lesion were observed after use of the clinical protocol. Additionally, a significant reduction in the pathogen count was found.
Even if with limitations, data showed that this medical preparation facilitated prompt recovery from reported pain, without adverse reactions. Further work with a larger study population, and possibly a randomized control medication, will be needed.

The rapid deterioration of oral health in young adults is an alarming problem in Japan. The aim of the present study is to investigate the oral health status, subjective oral symptoms and oral health behaviors of dental students.
Participants were 108 first-year students attending dental school in 2018-2019. Oral examinations were performed to assess dental caries indices, oral hygiene status, gingival bleeding on probing (BOP) and pocket depth. A self-administered questionnaire was used to assess subjective oral symptoms and oral health behaviors.
The prevalence of decayed teeth (DT) and gingivitis (BOP ≥ 10%) were 43.5% and 50.0%, respectively. Having DT and gingivitis were significantly associated with poorer oral hygiene. No association was observed between DT and subjective symptoms. Having gingivitis was significantly associated with xerostomia, mouth-breathing and less use of interdental cleaning tools. Multiple logistic regression analysis for gingivitis yielded an odds ratio of 1.41 (95% confidence interval 1.
