This study included 5433 Korean participants who were tested for BRCA1/2 genes. The BRCA1/2 variants were classified following the standards/guidelines for interpretation of genetic variants and using a multifactorial probability-based approach. In Korea, 15.8% of participants had BRCA1 or BRCA2 PLPVs. To estimate the additional sample numbers needed to resolve unclassified status, we applied a simulation analysis. The simulation study for VUS showed that the smaller the number of samples, the more the posterior probability was affected by the prior probability; in addition, more samples for BRCA2 VUS than those of BRCA1 VUS were required to resolve the unclassified status, and the presence of clinical information associated with their VUS was an important factor. Acid treatment is desired to kill pathogens, but the protective mechanisms employed by EHECs cross-protect against antimicrobial peptides and thus facilitate opportunities for survival and pathogenesis. In this review, we have discussed the correlation between acid tolerance and antibiotic resistance, highlighting the identification of novel targets for potential production of antimicrobial therapeutics. We have also summarized the molecular mechanisms used by acid-adapted EHECs, such as the two-component response systems mediating structural modifications, competitive inhibition, and efflux activation that facilitate cross-protection against antimicrobial compounds. Moving beyond the descriptive studies, this review highlights low pH stress as an emerging player in the development of cross-protection against antimicrobial agents. We have also described potential gene targets for innovative therapeutic approaches to overcome the risk of multidrug-resistant diseases in healthcare and industry.This pilot study investigated the effectiveness of the healthy empowered active lifestyles (HEAL) program to reduce circulatory levels of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and assess its relationship to BMI, % body fat, fasting glucose, and A1C. The HEAL program was delivered at a local wellness center using a team-based approach and focused on physical activity and dietary education. A sample of twenty primarily European American (19 white, 1 black) participants (i.e., 10 males, 10 females) aged 26 to 71 (m = 48.75 ± 10.26) completed 12 weeks of the HEAL intervention. Pre to post changes in AGEs, BMI, % body fat, fasting glucose, and A1C were examined as primary outcomes. The findings showed participants had the following average reductions AGEs 36.04 ± 18.48 ug/mL, BMI 2.0 ± 1.2 kg/m2, % body fat 3.18 ± 1.57%, fasting glucose 5.9 ± 17.21 mg/dL, and A1C 0.68 ± 1.11%. All twenty participants successfully completed the entire twelve weeks of the HEAL intervention. The results of this study show that the HEAL intervention provides beneficial reductions of AGEs, BMI, % body fat, fasting glucose, and A1C. In addition, the high adherence shows promise, and demonstrates the potential for HEAL as a behavioral intervention to improve pre-diabetic and other inflammatory related comorbidities. In an experimental design, 42 healthy adults (age M = 23.3 SD = 2.94, VO2max 52.8 ± 5.66 mL·kg-1·min-1) were randomly assigned to an intervention (HIIT + NT, NT, HIIT) or control group. NT performance (20 trials per session) was measured pre-and post-test (at 5, 15, and 25 min while running on the treadmill). The participants trained twice a week for a 4-week intervention period. There was a significant interaction effect between pre/post-test and groups regarding perceptual-cognitive performance, indicating similar enhancements in the HIIT + NT and the NT group during exercise. HIIT influences physical fitness but did not show any impact on perceptual-cognitive performance. Due to the specific NT task characteristics, improved physical abilities may not directly impact sport-specific perceptual-cognitive performance. Our findings suggest that training resulted in substantial task-specific gains.
