To analyze the results of thoracic sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis.

The study included 166 patients aged from 15-51 years. There were 118 women and 48 men. Isolated palmar hyperhidrosis was observed in 46 patients, axillary - 46 patients, palmar-axillary - 74 cases. Video-assisted thoracic bilateral sympathectomy was performed. In patients with palmar hyperhidrosis, sympathetic chain was transected between the ribs II and III, axillary and palmar-axillary hyperhidrosis - between the ribs III and IV.

Intraoperative injury of intercostal artery occurred in 1 case. Cautery was effective. Postoperative complications occurred in 4 (2.4%) patients (pneumothorax followed by drainage for up to 2-3 days). Symptoms of hyperhidrosis disappeared early after surgery in all cases. Long-term results were followed in 47 patients. Persistent positive effect and patient satisfaction with postoperative outcome were noted in 44 (93.6%) cases. Recurrences occurred in 2 patients with palmar hyperhidrosis and 1 patient with aevention of compensatory sweating are not possible. It is imperative to warn the patient about possible compensatory sweating.

To evaluate the early and long-term outcomes of rectovaginal fistula closure with vaginal rectangular flap.

There were 61 patients with rectovaginal fistula for the period 2012-2020. Median age of patients was 35 years [31; 48]. Postpartum fictula was observed in 27 (44.2%) cases, postoperative - 10 (16.4%) patients, inflammatory - 15 (24.6%) patients, other causes - 9 (14.8%) patients. Disease recurrence occurred in 29 (47.5%) patients.

Median follow-up period was 36.2 [6; 64] months. Postoperative recurrence of rectovaginal fistula occurred in 19 (31.1%) patients. Length of hospital-stay ranged from 3 to 36 days (median 14 [12; 16]). We describe the distribution of categories of evidence and consensus (EC) among the 10 most common hematologic malignancies with regard to recommendations for staging, initial and salvage therapy, and surveillance. Methods We reviewed the level of evidence for the 10 most common hematological malignancies by incidence in the United States as of 2020. The NCCN definitions for EC are category 1, high level of evidence, such as randomized controlled trials, with uniform consensus; category 2A, lower level of evidence with uniform consensus; category 2B, lower level of evidence without a uniform consensus but with no major disagreement; and category 3, any level of evidence but with major disagreement. We compared our results with previously published results from 2011. Results Of 1353 recommendations, 5%, 91%, 4%, and 1% fell into EC categories 1, 2A, 2B, and 3, respectively, while in 2011 the comparable percentages were 3%, 93%, 4%, and 0%, respectively. Recommendations with category 1 EC were found in all guidelines, except for Burkitt lymphoma. Of all therapeutic recommendations, 6.3% were category 1 EC, with the majority of these (56.4%) pertaining to initial therapy. Guidelines with highest proportions of therapeutic recommendations with category 1 EC were multiple myeloma (12.4%), chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (6.9%), and acute myeloid leukemia (5.6%). Conclusions Recommendations in the 2020 NCCN guidelines are largely developed from lower levels of evidence but with uniform expert opinion, underscoring the urgent need and available opportunities to expand the current evidence base in malignant hematological disorders.

The search was conducted in online databases based on reports from national authorities by March 28, 2021. Random-effects model meta-analyses and meta-regression analyses were used to generate summary estimates and explored sources of heterogeneity.

The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases was 125,704,789 reported by 216 countries. The pooled Daily Cumulative Index (DCI) was 1423.87 cases/day which was highest in South America (2759.15 cases/day) followed by North America (2252.49 cases/day), Europe (1858.44 cases/day), Asia (1484.84 cases/day), Africa (193.09 cases/day), and Australia/Oceania (18.55 cases/day). Data were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 update and the UNAIDS Data 2019. The datasets included annual figures from 1990 to 2019 for HIV/AIDS in 204 countries and all world regions. Analysis of age and gender distribution in different regions was used to assess demographic changes. Forecasting was used to estimate disease burden up to 2040. There is no specific anti-viral therapies for 2019 Coronavirus Diseases (COVID-19) infection. Here, we compared patients receiving steroids at different dosages versus no steroids in severe and critical COVID-19 patients.

We retrospectively studied COVID-19 patients who received low-dose or high-dose corticosteroid therapy compared to no steroid.

The study period, June-August 2020, included 169 patients with COVID-19 were included and there were 39.1% female and 60.9% male with an average age of 53.1 years. The distribution of cases was as follows high-dose 39 (23.1%), low-dose 54 (32.0%), and no steroid 76 (45.5%). Of all the patients, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission was for 31 (18.3%), nine (5.3%) required intubation, and 52 (30.8%) had no comorbidities. There is no difference in the mean age between the different groups. However, those being treated with steroid were more likely to have a high sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score (0.37 ± 0.68, 0.36 ± 0.67 and 0.04 ± 0.34, for low-dose, high-dose steroid and no steroid groups, respectively (
