Background The prevalence of smoking among patients undergoing bariatric surgery has been reported to be as high as 40%. The effect of smoking in the perioperative period has been extensively studied for various surgical procedures, but limited data are available for bariatric surgery. The objective of this study is to review the existing literature to assess (1) the impact of smoking on postoperative morbidity and mortality after bariatric surgery, (2) the relationship between smoking and weight loss after bariatric surgery, and (3) the efficacy of smoking cessation in the perioperative period among bariatric surgery patients. Methods A comprehensive search of electronic databases including MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library from 1946 to February 2020 was performed to identify relevant articles. Following an initial screen of 940 titles and abstracts, 540 full articles were reviewed. Results Forty-eight studies met criteria for analysis five structured interviews, three longitudinal studies, thirty-twonce among bariatric surgery patients in the perioperative period. The keto-enol tautomerisation in homophthalic anhydride (HA) is investigated in the ground (S0) and excited (S1) electronic states. The keto form with a dicarbonyl structure is found to be the most stable form in S0 and enol form with a monocarbonyl structure in S1 indicating an excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) process. The computed results show consistency with the change in basis sets and methods of calculations. Apart from the two tautomers, transition states are also identified. The barrier to interconversion is found to reduce substantially in S1. Internal reaction coordinate (IRC) calculations confirm the pathway of interconversion between the two forms in S0 and S1. The observed FT-IR spectra corroborate well with our computed spectra. The appearance of two strong lines around 1800 cm-1 confirms the lowest energy structure to be the keto tautomer with a dicarbonyl form in S0. Our computations corroborate well with the crystal structure data for an analogous molecule. Electron distribution in HOMO and LUMO indicate the excitation process as π → π* in nature. The qualitative chemical concepts like hardness and electrophilicity are calculated to estimate the stability of the tautomers. The energy and hardness profiles with the variation of IRC are opposite to each other, verifying the principle of maximum hardness. The present study aims to investigate the impact of a metal-tolerant bacterium on metal detoxification and rape seedling growth promotion under Cd stress. The results showed that the isolated bacterium Enterobacter sp. Zm-123 has capability to resist Cd (200 mg/L), produce IAA (26.67 mg/L) and siderophores (82.34%), and solubilize phosphate (137.5 mg/L), etc. Ralimetinib cell line Zm-123 inoculation significantly enhanced the fresh weight of rape seedlings from 9.47 to 19.98% and the root length from 10.42 to 57.05% compared with non-inoculation group under different concentrations of Cd (0, 0.5, 1, 3, 5 mg/L) (p less then 0.05). It also significantly increased the content of chlorophyll, soluble sugar, soluble protein, and proline (p less then 0.05) in rape seedlings. Moreover, a significant elevation in catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD) activities and a significant reduction in malondialdehyde (MDA), electrolyte leakage (EL), and Cd content in rape seedlings were detected owing to Zm-123 inoculation (p less then 0.05). The combined results imply that strain Zm-123 can alleviate the Cd phytotoxicity and promote the rape seedling growth by improving the physiological activity and antioxidant level, which can be potentially applied to protect plants from Cd toxicity. The development of societies has led information and communication technology (ICT) to play a gradually important role in people's lives, transforming the way societies and economies function. ICTs are often associated with the path to reducing CO2 emissions; however, do they lead to that path? Or are they themselves a growing source of energy consumption and emissions? The current study estimates the effect of ICT, trade, economic growth, financial development, and energy consumption on carbon emissions in South and Southeast Asian (SSEA) region for the period of 1990-2014. Moreover, the study also tried to validate the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis between GDP per capita and CO2 emissions. Cluster analysis was used to identify two groups (potential and advanced countries) based on their social development score. The long-run connection between the variables was examined and the long-run elasticities of ICT, financial development, energy consumption, trade, and economic growth with respect to e the integration of energy efficiency into user routines. Due to the increasing use of standby mode and Wi-Fi assistive devices, the rapid implementation of legislation regulating these technologies to make them more efficient is recommended.Exposure to contaminants is one of the main threats to all living organisms. In this context, bats have been used to indicate environmental contaminants in urban and agricultural environments, since they are extremely sensitive to changes in the ecosystem and easily accumulate waste in their body tissues. Among bats, Sturnira lilium, is a frugivorous species widely distributed and abundant in Brazil that uses an extensive variety of habitats and shelters. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the oxidative state of S. lilium individuals in agricultural and urban areas in southern Brazil. Individuals were sampled in agricultural and urban areas from November 2017 to March 2018 through the mist-net method. Parameters of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) enzyme activity, non-protein thiols (NPSH), and lipid peroxidation (TBARS) were determined based on liver tissue. A total of 46 individuals were captured, 29 of them in urban areas and 17 in agricultural areas. We found that S. lilium individuals from agricultural areas showed a significant increase in TBARS, NPSH, and SOD activity, compared to individuals from urban areas. The activity of the antioxidant enzyme CAT did not differ. The present findings suggest that the species S. lilium, which are widely distributed and abundant in Brazil in urban and agricultural areas, can usefully be employed in biomonitoring programs. Further studies are to be encouraged to refine our knowledge on the potential DNA damage caused by environmental contamination, as well as identify potential contaminants to bats.
