Pectin-enriched wall fractions isolated from cwm plants triggered immune responses in wild-type plants, suggesting that wall-mediated defensive pathways might contribute to cwm resistance. Cell walls of cwm plants show a high diversity of composition alterations as revealed by glycome profiling that detect specific wall carbohydrate moieties. Mathematical analysis of glycome profiling data identified correlations between the amounts of specific wall carbohydrate moieties and disease resistance phenotypes of cwm plants. These data support the relevant and specific function of plant wall composition in plant immune response modulation and in balancing disease resistance/development trade-offs.
Conventional angiography is the benchmark examination to diagnose cerebral vasospasm, but there is limited evidence regarding its reliability. Our goals were the following 1) to systematically review the literature on the reliability of the diagnosis of cerebral vasospasm using conventional angiography, and 2) to perform an agreement study among clinicians who perform endovascular treatment.
Articles reporting a classification system on the degree of cerebral vasospasm on conventional angiography were systematically searched, and agreement studies were identified. We assembled a portfolio of 221 cases of patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage and asked 17 raters with different backgrounds (radiology, neurosurgery, or neurology) and experience (junior ≤10 and senior >10 years) to independently evaluate cerebral vasospasm in 7 vessel segments using a 3-point scale and to evaluate, for each case, whether findings would justify endovascular treatment. Nine raters took part in the intraobserver reliability study.
The systematic review showed a very heterogeneous literature, with 140 studies using 60 different nomenclatures and 21 different thresholds to define cerebral vasospasm, and 5 interobserver studies reporting a wide range of reliability (κ = 0.14-0.87). In our study, only senior raters reached substantial agreement (κ ≥ 0.6) on vasospasm of the supraclinoid ICA, M1, and basilar segments and only when assessments were dichotomized (presence or absence of ≥50% narrowing). Agreement on whether to proceed with endovascular management of vasospasm was only fair (κ ≤ 0.4).
Research on cerebral vasospasm would benefit from standardization of definitions and thresholds. Dichotomized decisions by experienced readers are required for the reliable angiographic diagnosis of cerebral vasospasm.

Reductions in magnetization transfer ratio have been associated with brain microstructural damage. We aim to compare magnetization transfer ratio in global and regional GM and WM between individuals with Alzheimer disease and healthy control participants to analyze the relationship between magnetization transfer ratio and cognitive functioning in Alzheimer disease.
In this prospective study, participants with Alzheimer disease and a group of age-matched healthy control participants underwent clinical examinations and 3T MR imaging. Magnetization transfer ratios were determined in the cortex, AD-signature regions, normal-appearing WM, and WM hyperintensities.
Seventy-seven study participants (mean age ± SD, 72 ± 8 years; 47 female) and 77 age-matched healthy control participants (mean age ± SD, 72 ± 8 years; 44 female) were evaluated. Magnetization transfer ratio values were lower in patients with Alzheimer disease than in healthy control participants in all investigated regions. When adjusting for atropgnetization transfer ratios in the entire cortex and AD-signature regions contribute to cognitive impairment independent of brain atrophy and WM damage.
Recent data suggest that intra-arterial thrombolytics may be a safe rescue therapy for patients with acute ischemic stroke after unsuccessful mechanical thrombectomy; however, safety and efficacy remain unclear. Here, we evaluate the use of intra-arterial rtPA as a rescue therapy in the Systematic Evaluation of Patients Treated with Neurothrombectomy Devices for Acute Ischemic Stroke (STRATIS) registry.
STRATIS was a prospective, multicenter, observational study of patients with acute ischemic stroke with large-vessel occlusions treated with the Solitaire stent retriever as the first-line therapy within 8 hours from symptom onset. Clinical and angiographic outcomes were compared in patients having rescue therapy treated with and without intra-arterial rtPA. Unsuccessful mechanical thrombectomy was defined as any use of rescue therapy.
A total of 212/984 (21.5%) patients received rescue therapy, of which 83 (39.2%) and 129 (60.8%) were in the no intra-arterial rtPA and intra-arterial rtPA groups, respectn increased risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage or mortality. Furthermore, with the adoption of intra-arterial chemotherapy as a standard of care option for globe salvage therapy in many centers, the interventional neuroradiologist may play an active role in retinoblastoma treatment. In this review, we discuss the clinical presentation of retinoblastoma, ophthalmic imaging modalities, neuroradiology imaging features, and current treatment options.
