Food photography is a feasible methodology to capture parent-packed lunches for preschoolers and may have utility in nutrition education, particularly related to age-appropriate portion sizes.Here we tell the story of ivermectin, describing its anthelmintic and insecticidal actions and recent studies that have sought to reposition ivermectin for the treatment of other diseases that are not caused by helminth and insect parasites. The standard theory of its anthelmintic and insecticidal mode of action is that it is a selective positive allosteric modulator of glutamate-gated chloride channels found in nematodes and insects. At higher concentrations, ivermectin also acts as an allosteric modulator of ion channels found in host central nervous systems. In addition, in tissue culture, at concentrations higher than anthelmintic concentrations, ivermectin shows antiviral, antimalarial, antimetabolic, and anticancer effects. Caution is required before extrapolating from these preliminary repositioning experiments to clinical use, particularly for Covid-19 treatment, because of the high concentrations of ivermectin used in tissue-culture experiments.
Engagement in regular physical activity (PA) is a cornerstone prevention strategy for individuals at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Interventions targeting PA often fail to result in long-term behaviour changes. "Small Steps for Big Changes" is a 3-week diabetes prevention program that promotes PA behaviour changes in individuals with prediabetes through motivational interviewing-informed counselling.
In this study, we aimed to a) profile patterns of women's perceived PA journey over 1 year and b) understand strategies used to engage in and maintain PA. Fourteen women (mean age, 60 years) engaged in 4 semistructured interviews (preprogram, postprogram and 3 and 12 months postprogram) over 1 year (56 total interviews). A trajectory approach was used, coupled with a deductive‒inductive thematic analysis. Findings are presented descriptively and chronologically over 1 year.
To address the first study aim, 4 patterns emerged a) consistently inactive minimal change; b) increase and maintenance of PA levels; c) peak in and maintenance of PA levels and d) consistently active minimal increase, yet maintenance. Generally, women reported higher PA levels after completing the Small Steps for Big Changes program compared with preprogram levels. Related to the second aim, a range of facilitators and barriers were identified, as well as strategies used to facilitate engagement in and maintenance of PA over 1 year. Here we report the twelfth case of MASC of the thyroid worldwide. A 36-year-old female was diagnosed with poor-differentiated thyroid carcinoma (PDTC). Pathology consultant and immunochemical workups showed the tumor cells were negative for TTF1, TG, PAX8, positive for S100, Vimentin, GATA-3, and focally positive for mammaglobin. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay using a dual-color break-apart probe showed ETV6 translocation t(12p13) (ETV6) was present and established the diagnosis of MASC. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) of a 47-gene panel identified exon 1-5 of ETV6 gene were fused with exons 15-19 of NTRK3 gene. The patient experienced three loco-regional recurrences within 12 months and eventually developed inoperable local disease as well as bilateral lung metastasis. She is currently receiving anti-TRK treatment with a follow-up time of 33 months. We presented a non-smoker, no alcohol consuming woman who had a second primary tongue SCC after four and a half years later of her first tongue SCC with TERT promoter mutation. The primary tumor and its recurrences in woman with tongue SCC who have never smoked and had no alcohol consumption may need to be differing from other tongue carcinomas. TERT promoter mutations may have a relation in etiopathogenesis of tumor and mutations need to be on mind in future studies.
