The Triticum (wheat)-Aegilops (goatgrass) complex has been extensively studied, but the evolutionary history of polyploid wheats has not been fully elucidated. The chloroplast (cp) with maternal inheritance and homoplasy can simplify the sequence-based evolutionary inferences, but informative inferences would require a complete and accurate cp genome sequence. In this study, 16 cp genomes representing five Aegilops and 11 Triticum species and subspecies were sequenced, assembled and annotated, yielding five novel circular cp genome sequences. Analyzing the assembled cp genomes revealed no marked differences in genome structure and gene arrangement across the assayed species. A polymorphism analysis of 72 published cp genome sequences representing 10 Aegilops and 15 Triticum species and subspecies detected 1183 SNPs and 1881 SSRs. More than 80% SNPs detected resided on the downstream and upstream gene regions and only 2.78% or less SNPs were predicted to be deleterious. The largest nucleotide diversity was observed in the short single-copy genomic region. Relatively weak selection pressure on cp coding genes was detected. Different phylogenetic analyses confirmed that the maternal divergence of the Triticum-Aegilops complex had three deep lineages each representing a diploid species with nuclear A, B, or D genome. Dating the maternal divergence yielded age estimates of divergence that matched well with those reported previously. The divergence between emmer and bread wheats occurred at 8200-11,200 years ago. These findings are useful for further genomic studies, provide insight into cp genome evolvability and allow for better understanding of the maternal divergence of the Triticum-Aegilops complex.The spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 engages the human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor to enter host cells, and neutralizing antibodies are effective at blocking this interaction to prevent infection. Widespread application of this important marker of protective immunity is limited by logistical and technical challenges associated with live virus methods and venous blood collection. To address this gap, we validated an immunoassay-based method for quantifying neutralization of the spike-ACE2 interaction in a single drop of capillary whole blood, collected on filter paper as a dried blood spot (DBS) sample. Samples are eluted overnight and incubated in the presence of spike antigen and ACE2 in a 96-well solid phase plate. Competitive immunoassay with electrochemiluminescent label is used to quantify neutralizing activity. The following measures of assay performance were evaluated dilution series of confirmed positive and negative samples, agreement with results from matched DBS-serum samples, analysnge of settings and populations.Mycoplasma capricolum subsp.subsp. capripneumonia (Mccp) and Mycoplasma mycoides subsp.sbusp. capri (Mmc) cause caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP) and mycoplasmal pneumonia in goats and sheep (MPGS), respectively. These diseases cannot be identified on clinical symptoms alone and it is laborious to distinguish them using biochemical methods. It is therefore important to establish a simple, rapid identification method for Mccp and Mmc. Here, we report a high-resolution melting (HRM) curve analysis using specific primers based on the Mmc 95010 strain MLC_0560 and Mccp F38 strain MCCPF38_00984 gene sequences. The method was highly specific with intra- and inter-batch coefficients of variation  less then  1%. A novel dielectric-free phase transforming structure (DF-PTS) is presented in this paper for this purpose, and its ability to correct the aperture phase distribution of a resonant cavity antenna (RCA) over a much wider bandwidth is demonstrated. As opposed to printed multilayered metasurfaces, all the cells in crucial locations of the DF-PTS have a phase response that tracks the phase error of the RCA over a large bandwidth, and in addition have wideband transmission characteristics, resulting in a wideband antenna system. The new DF-PTS, made of three thin metal sheets each containing modified-eight-arm-asterisk-shaped slots, is significantly stronger than the previous DF-PTS, which requires thin and long metal interconnects between metal patches. The third advantage of the new DF-PTS is, all phase transformation cells in it are highly transparent, each with a transmission magnitude greater than - 1 dB at the design frequency, ensuring excellent phase correction with minimal effect on aperture amplitude distribution. With the DF-PTS, RCA gain increases to 20.1 dBi, which is significantly greater than its 10.7 dBi gain without the DF-PTS. The measured 10-dB return loss bandwidth and the 3-dB gain bandwidth of the RCA with DF-PTS are 46% and 12%, respectively.The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been associated with various metabolic, cardiovascular, and cerebrovascular diseases. We evaluated the association between the TyG index and early recurrent ischemic lesions (ERILs) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We included consecutive patients diagnosed with AIS between 2010 and 2016. ERILs were defined as new diffusion-weighted imaging lesions outside the initial symptomatic lesion area. The TyG index was calculated using the following formula log scale of fasting triglyceride × fasting glucose/2. A total of 176 patients with AIS were evaluated. In the multivariable analysis, the TyG index remained significant (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 2.63, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.34-5.15). This close correlation between the TyG index and ERIL was pronounced in ERIL-same group (aOR 2.84, 95% CI 1.40-5.78), but not in ERIL-different group. When comparing the relationship between the TyG index and ERIL by stroke mechanisms, only the intracranial- and extracranial-large artery atherosclerosis groups showed significantly higher TyG index values in patients with ERIL than those without. In conclusion, a higher TyG index was associated with ERIL, especially ERIL-same, in patients with AIS. The TyG index appears to be involved in ERIL occurrence by a mechanism related to atherosclerosis.The risk for developing stress-related disorders is elevated in individuals with high alexithymia, a personality trait characterized by impaired emotional awareness and interpersonal relating. However, it is still unclear how alexithymia alters perceived psychosocial stress and which neurobiological substrates are mechanistically involved. To address this question, we examined freshmen during transition to university, given that this period entails psychosocial stress and frequently initiates psychopathology. Specifically, we used a functional magnetic resonance imaging emotional face matching task to probe emotional processing in 54 participants (39 women) at the beginning of the first year at university and 6 months later. Furthermore, we assessed alexithymia and monitored perceived psychosocial stress and loneliness via questionnaires for six consecutive months. Perceived psychosocial stress significantly increased over time and initial alexithymia predicted subjective stress experiences via enhanced loneliness. On the neural level, alexithymia was associated with lowered amygdala responses to emotional faces, while loneliness correlated with diminished reactivity in the anterior insular and anterior cingulate cortex. Furthermore, insula activity mediated the association between alexithymia and loneliness that predicted perceived psychosocial stress. Our findings are consistent with the notion that alexithymia exacerbates subjective stress via blunted insula reactivity and increased perception of social isolation.In this work, the photodegradation process of atorvastatin calcium (ATC) is reported as depending on (1) the presence and the absence of excipients in the solid state; (2) the chemical interaction of ATC with phosphate buffer (PB) having pH equal to 7 and 8; and (3) hydrolysis reaction of ATC in the presence of aqueous solution of NaOH. The novelty of this work consists in the monitoring of the ATC photodegradation by photoluminescence (PL). The exposure of ATC in solid state to UV light induces the photo-oxygenation reactions in the presence of water vapors and oxygen from air. According to the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic studies, we demonstrate that the photo-oxygenation reaction leads to photodegradation compounds having a high share of C=O bonds compared to ATC before exposure to UV light. Both in the presence of PB and NaOH, the photodegradation process of ATC is highlighted by a significant decrease in the intensity of the PL and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra. According to PLE spectra, the exposure of ATC in the presence of NaOH to UV light leads to the appearance of a new band in the spectral range 340-370 nm, this belonging to the photodegradation products. Arguments concerning the chemical compounds, that resulted in this last case, are shown by Raman scattering and FTIR spectroscopy.Urban area mapping is an important application of remote sensing which aims at both estimation and change in land cover under the urban area. A major challenge being faced while analyzing Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) based remote sensing data is that there is a lot of similarity between highly vegetated urban areas and oriented urban targets with that of actual vegetation. This similarity between some urban areas and vegetation leads to misclassification of the urban area into forest cover. The present work is a precursor study for the dual-frequency L and S-band NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission and aims at minimizing the misclassification of such highly vegetated and oriented urban targets into vegetation class with the help of deep learning. In this study, three machine learning algorithms Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN), and Support Vector Machine (SVM) have been implemented along with a deep learning model DeepLabv3+ for semantic segmentation of Polarimetric SAR (PolSAR) ts with a precision of 0.8977 and 0.8958 respectively.Ischemic retinal dystrophies are leading causes of acquired vision loss. Although the dysregulated expression of the hypoxia-responsive VEGF-A is a major driver of ischemic retinopathies, implication of additional VEGF-family members in their pathogenesis has led to the development of multivalent anti-angiogenic tools. Designed as a decoy receptor for all ligands of VEGFR1 and VEGFR2, Aflibercept is a potent anti-angiogenic agent. Notwithstanding, the molecular mechanisms mediating Aflibercept's efficacy remain only partially understood. Here, we used the oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) mouse as a model system of pathological retinal vascularization to investigate the transcriptional response of the murine retina to hypoxia and of the OIR retina to Aflibercept. While OIR severely impaired transcriptional changes normally ensuing during retinal development, analysis of gene expression patterns hinted at alterations in leukocyte recruitment during the recovery phase of the OIR protocol. Moreover, the levels of Angiopoietin-2, a major player in the progression of diabetic retinopathy, were elevated in OIR tissues and consistently downregulated by Aflibercept.
