The questionnaire showed high internal consistency and test-retest reliability (Cronbach's α = 0.99, intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.98 [0.97-0.98]), good convergent validity with a moderate correlation with the Foot and Function Index (rho = 0.677, p less then .0001) and no floor or ceiling effects were detected. A total of 122 feet were retrospectively analyzed after hallux valgus surgery. The hallux valgus angle, inter-metatarsal angle, lateral talo-first metatarsal angle, calcaneal pitch, and talonavicular coverage angle were measured. The Foot and Ankle Outcome Score and Foot Function Index were evaluated. A significant correlation between radiographic parameters of pes planus and hallux valgus severity, radiographic outcomes, Foot and Ankle Outcome Score, and Foot Function Index were not noted. The hallux valgus angle and inter-metatarsal angle changed significantly after the surgery (p less then .001 and p less then .001, respectively); however, a significant difference was not noted between the pes planus and non-pes planus groups (p = .279 and p = .632, respectively). The association between markers of nutritional status (handgrip strength [HGS] and adductor pollicis muscle thickness [APMT]) and clinical markers of congestive heart failure (CHF) severity is currently unclear. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between HGS, APMT, as markers of nutritional status and CHF severity.

APMT and muscle strength was measured in 500 CHF patients bilaterally. Nutritional status was assessed by Subjective Global Assessment (SGA). Functional classification was performed according to guidelines provided by the New York Heart Association (NYHA) and ejection fraction (EF) was measured to classify CHF severity. Poisson regression, adjusted for sex and age, was performed to verify the association between nutritional factors and CHF severity markers.

The majority of patients (75.8%) were ≥60 years old and 53.6% were either overweight or obese. SGA identified 42.2% of the patients as malnourished, 12.6% with low APMT, and 29.0% with low HGS. The best approach for aortic root disease remains controversial. Composite valve-graft conduit (CVG) replacement offers good results at short-term and long-term follow-up; on the other hand, valve-sparing aortic root replacement (VSARR) has proven to be an excellent treatment alternative. This study aimed to analyse the outcomes after VSARR and compare whether preoperative moderate or severe aortic regurgitation (AR) and or the need for aortic valve repair (AVR) during this procedure influenced survival and freedom from reoperation rates.

From September 2005 to June 2018, 104 patients underwent VSARR using the reimplantation technique 64% presented with preoperative moderate or severe AR, concomitant AVR was performed in 43.3%, Marfan syndrome was present in 16.3%, and 12.5% had a bicuspid aortic valve. Complete follow-up was obtained in 91% of the sample, echocardiographic results were available for 86% and the mean follow-up time was 1,893 days.

In-hospital mortality was 2.9% and one death occurred 42 days after hospital discharge.
