In the present study, data from 498 genotyped Alpine Merino sheep were adopted to estimate the additive and dominant genetic effects of 9 wool and blood traits via two linear models (1) an additive effect model (MAG) and (2) a model that included both additive and dominant genetic effects (MADG). Moreover, a method of 5-fold cross validation was used to evaluate the capability of GP in the two different models. The results of variance component estimates for each trait suggested that for fleece extension rate (73%), red blood cell count (28%), and hematocrit (25%), a large component of phenotypic variation was explained by dominant genetic effects. The results of cross validation demonstrated that the MADG model, comprising additive and dominant genetic effects, did not display an apparent advantage over the MAG model that included only additive genetic effects, i.e., the model that included dominant genetic effects did not improve the capability for prediction of the genomic model. A total of 649 blood samples were collected from 175 pig farms, and at the time of sampling, a questionnaire about routine herd management was administered to participant herd managers. Swine influenza virus serological status for each of the sampled pigs was tested using the IDEXX ELISA-test (Maine, US). The apparent herd-level prevalence of SIV seropositivity was expressed as a true herd-level prevalence using the Rogan and Gladen method, modified to account for low and high prevalence herds using a Markov chain Monte Carlo Bayesian approach. The association between herd-level characteristics and SIV seropositivity status was assessed using binary logistic regression. The true prevalence of SIV seropositivity was 26% (95% CI = 20-33). The presence of animals apart from pigs on farm (odds ratio, OR = 2.51, 95% CI = 1.0-6.0), keeping breeding sows for less then 2 years (OR = 5.9, 95% Cl = 1.8-20), being less then 1 km from a poultry farm (OR = 2.4, 95% Cl = 1.0-5.7), and purchasing pigs only through pig collectors (OR = 11, 95% CI = 4.3-29) increased the risk of a herd being seropositive to SIV. Our results show that biosecurity to limit the introduction of SIV should be enhanced on farms located in areas of high pig and poultry farm density. A meta-analysis is performed for outcomes of postoperative CHD patients on ECMO. Methods Electronic databases, including PubMed, EMbase, and Cochrane Library CENTRAL were searched systematically from January 1990 to June 2020 for literature which reported the outcomes of postoperative CHD cases on ECMO. The scope of this search was restricted to articles published in English. Results Forty-three studies were included in this study, involving 3,585 subjects. Postoperative ventricular failure with low cardiac output was the most common indication of ECMO initiation. The pooled estimated incidence of in-hospital mortality was 56.8% (95% CI, 52.5-61.0%).
